The Story Is Really Bad and Act 3 Is Undercooked

Nearly at the end of DOS1 for the first time. Played DOS2 several times through in the past and BG3 too. The gameplay, mechanics, and balancing are all solid for DOS1 but the story is terrible and act 3 is seriously underdeveloped. You can tell how they ran out of time and resources. The funny thing is that Larian consistently struggles with this across all of their games, they suck at the last 1/3 or 1/4 of their games, they don’t know how to bring it to a satisfying conclusion.

How To Not Get Mentally “Locked In” To A Specific Version Of Your Story, So That Rewriting Is Possible?

Question: When you need or want to rewrite whole scenes, characters, acts, or more from scratch, how do you actually divorce yourself of your preconceived vision so that “from scratch” is from a blank canvas again?

Context: Stories start broad and unmolded and become narrow and specific as you write the script. In order for you to actually get to a first draft you have to make decisions and imagine everything that you’re writing. I am assuming that every line a screenwriter writes they are also visualizing how that will look as a finished movie. That all hones the movie into a specific version of the dozens or hundreds of versions that it could possibly be.

Problem: There are lots of truly great script ideas but it’s in the execution that determines whether that idea remains great once the screenplay is finished or whether you’ve destroyed it. In our haste to get to a first draft we often make less optimal decisions throughout the script. All of these decisions good and bad cut away pieces of the marble and I find it extremely difficult to look at the script and not see the statue that I’ve carved out. That trying to go back to that broad amorphous state of the story where there were tons of diverse possibilities for it to be is near impossible. Do you just have to be more careful as you’re writing? While still avoiding the pitfalls of analysis paralysis

HoTA Partial/Pick and Choose Install?

Been playing HoMM since 2 released. I’ve never played HoTA, I’ve often spurned it. I’m wondering if I can install pieces of the mod that I am interested in and omit the rest? Or is the mod an all or nothing

No More Choose Your Own Ticket Packages For Gala/Premieres?

I vaguely recall in the 2015-2019 era TIFF selling member ticket packages for Gala/Premieres where you get to pick like 6 shows to see for x amount of money securing your spots long before individual tickets go on sale in August. Does TIFF not do this anymore or am I remembering wrong and they have never done this?

I Love Shadows of Brimstone But It Has A Major Problem

Their lame scenarios and lack of campaigns, are doing their phenomenal game a MASSIVE disservice.

We have played for probably 340 hours over sessions since 2015. The richness and diversity of content (you do need some expansions), how meaty and satisfying the character building and level ups are, the enemy variety, the combat system, are all what we love about the game. It innovated on so many aspects of Warhammer Quest (1995) which is an amazing game itself.

The scenarios in Shadows of Brimstone leave a lot to be desired, they’re so one dimensional and devoid of consideration. If they released D&D type story campaigns (modified to be used without a DM) the game would be unstoppable. I cannot for the life of me understand why they have not put attention and resources into this glaringly obvious flaw with their game.

Why Is DOS1 Way Harder Than 2?

Main problem is that the enemies do far more damage than we do and so we’ve had 6 deaths so far. Is this normal? We had almost no deaths in DOS2 or BG3

First time playing DOS1, played DOS2 and BG3 several times. Couch coop, have a 2H strength man at arms with a touch of intelligence for some hydro/aero/pyro. Have a dual wielding dex rogue scoundrel with witchery. Jahan pure intelligence with hydro/aero/geo. Bair pure dex marksmen ranged character.

We’re level 6 and are halfway through the Black Cave, and the enemies were a massive jump in difficulty, they do like 50-80 per hit, 100+ damage with special skills and they (crabs especially) absorb a ridiculous amount of our damage per hit.

Bethesda Should Have Struck While The Iron Was Hot (ES6)

Hindsight is 20/20 and you can respect their decision to try something new with Starfield but they should have struck while the iron was still hot from Skyrim.

Skyrim released in 2011, Fallout 4 in 2015, and ES6 should have released by 2019. Since 2011 they’ve lost many devs and artists who made Skyrim the success that it was. I don’t know if they have the caliber of staff members anymore to actually pull off another genre defining game with ES6. The whole thing’s just a damn shame.

DOS1 Worth Playing If I’ve Only Ever Played 2?

Are there any big differences negative or positive? Or is it mostly the same, just a totally new story? Will likely be playing couch co-op.

Tenant Initiated Cash For Keys, What’s Fair?

My Father has lived in his duplex (3bed1bath) unit for 11 years. Never had any issues, rent in 2026 is $1250 (controlled). If new tenant was brought in it could easily be $2200+/month. The new landlord/house owner as of 3 years ago, desperately wants my Father out. He’s issued N5 forms in the last 12 months but has never proceeded to submit the L2 form to the LTB. The landlord knows that there is a high likelihood the LTB would not evict my Father. We’re considering sending the landlord a cash for keys proposal but are wondering how much to ask for.

I am on chapter 51, 70ish pages left of Dragon Reborn and dialogue between the characters about the forsaken (sparsely in book two) has occurred several times and I find it super annoying for one reason.

Book two and three NEVER mention Aginor at all or how Rand killed him, a forsaken, either. The characters are going on and on about how powerful the forsaken are compared to everyone else, how dangerous they are, how challenging it is to fight them etc… but they never mention or discuss that Rand already killed one. That seems like a major oversight that screams at the reader every time talk of the forsaken comes up.

It feels very amateurish because Aginor’s death is treated in the subsequent two books as if it didn’t even happen, when to my knowledge, a forsaken being killed is the kind of momentous event that would be sent to every village/town/city in the world. The result is that it undermines the “threat” factor of the forsaken.
