We're building our house, and this is our office, which is currently being painted. I've gone with Woodland Willow by Colourtrend on the walls and ceiling, and I'm hoping to create a retro, colourful, but masculine space.

I'm having a bit of a wobble now that I can see the green throughout the room, so I'm looking for some reassurance that it will all come together once the furniture and finishing touches are in!

My plan is to incorporate a walnut or teak desk, a cognac or tobacco brown leather office chair, retro artwork with rust, burnt orange, mustard and cream tones, a vintage-style patterned rug, warm brass lighting and a few vintage accessories. I'm also considering a walnut bookcase or sideboard for storage and display.

I'd love the room to feel warm, characterful, and a little bit 1970s, rather than like a standard home office. I want it to be colourful without looking too busy and masculine without being too dark or overly industrial.

What do you think of the green? Would you stick with this palette, and do you think the walnut, cognac leather, and warmer accents will work with it? Is there anything you'd change or add?

I'd really appreciate honest opinions and ideas before I start buying furniture! 😊

Edited to add: this is a southwest facing room.

After my last two posts, I’ve narrowed it down to 5 options. The overwhelming feedback was that the original beige/neutral rug was a bit too boring, so I’ve been trying to find something with a little more colour and personality while still working with the room.

The room has:

* Cognac/tan leather sofa

* Polished concrete flooring

* Warm oak kitchen

* Olive green stools at the island

* Lots of greenery/views outside

I’m conscious I don’t want the rug to compete with the view or make the room feel too busy.

Which would you choose: 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5? And is there a clear winner?

Following on from my previous post about the rug, the overwhelming opinion was that the beige rug was too plain/boring for the room 😂

Quite a few people suggested bringing in some green and brown to tie in with the surroundings and the cognac leather sofa, so I’ve found this alternative and would love to know what you think.

The first photo is an AI mock-up of the new rug in the room, the second is the current beige rug, and the third is the actual rug from the website. Both rugs are 250cm x 350cm, so they’re the same size.

Do you think this is more along the lines of what the room needs, or is the pattern/colour too much? I’m particularly interested to know if people think the green works with the sofa and polished concrete.

I’m very open to opinions, especially after the feedback on the first rug! 😂

Sharing a little walkthrough of our house so far! We're still very much a work in progress, with painting, furniture and finishing touches still to come, but it's finally starting to feel like a home.

Would love to hear what people think of the layout, kitchen, flooring and overall finishes we've chosen so far. Open to honest opinions, suggestions or anything you would have done differently!

We're planning warm, earthy colours throughout, with a mix of contemporary and traditional elements.

2nd bathroom update – furniture is finally going in!

For those who’ve been following our house build, the bathroom is finally starting to come together! 🥰

The bath, vanity, toilet, and brassware are all in now. There are still lots to finish, but I’d love to hear what you think so far!

Another little update on the bathroom as the furniture has started going in!

I posted the tiles a while back and it was really interesting seeing everyone's opinions, so thought I'd share the next stage now that it’s starting to look like an actual bathroom 😂

Still lots to be finished, but I’d love to hear what everyone thinks so far. Does it all work together? Anything you would have done differently?

Another bathroom update from me… apologies for basically taking over this sub, but honestly, the paint swatches are going to be the end of me 😂

I’m trying to choose the right green to pair with these pink tiles. The first photo is my actual bathroom, and the second is my inspiration pic for the overall look.

I’m aiming for that soft, slightly muted green alongside the dusty pink rather than anything too bright or minty.

I’ve put a few green swatches beside the tiles, but I’m completely going around in circles now 🙈

**Which green do you think works best with the pink?**

And does one of them give a similar feel to my inspiration picture (2nd pic)?

At this stage, I genuinely need Reddit to make the decision for me 😂

At this point, I feel like I’m slowly taking over this sub with bathroom updates 😂 but honestly, posting here and getting everyone’s opinions has helped keep me sane through this very slow building process!

The tiles are finally grouted, and I’m so relieved to see them looking more finished. I was getting a bit nervous along the way, but I’m really happy with how they’re coming together. The grout has made such a difference, and I think they’re finally starting to look like the bathroom I had in my head.

So thank you to everyone who has been following along, giving advice, reassuring me when I’ve inevitably started second-guessing everything, and generally indulging my endless paint/tile/bathroom questions 😂❤️

Hopefully, the next update will be a little closer to the finished bathroom!

FYI, the last picture is the colour. I'll be painting the other 2 walls once the floor to ceiling tongue and groove panelling is installed.

A little update to my progress post from a few weeks ago!

The tiling is slowly (and I mean VERY slowly 😅) coming together, but I’m having a bit of a wobble now that more of the floral tile is up.

I absolutely loved these tiles when I chose them, but seeing them covering more and more of the room, I’m starting to think they look really busy and messy. There are flowers everywhere 😂 and I’m suddenly questioning whether I’ve made a huge mistake.

I think the fact that the room is currently unfinished probably isn’t helping — there’s still loads to be done, including the sanitaryware, brass fittings, lighting and the remaining walls, but at the moment I’m struggling to picture it all coming together.

I wanted the bathroom to feel whimsical, vintage, and a bit different, rather than safe/plain, but I’m now wondering if I’ve gone too far.

So please give me some reassurance that I haven’t completely ruined my bathroom 😂 Or, if you think it’s going to look better once finished, I’d really love to hear why because I’m currently having a renovation crisis!

Do you think Tranquil Dawn would give a similar look to the stock image and work well with my pink tiles? Or would you suggest a different green?

Opinions on our bathroom so far?

I’d love some honest opinions on how this bathroom is coming together so far!

We’ve gone with Blue Note tiles by Carmen on the main walls. They’re handmade/hand-finished, so there’s quite a bit of variation in the colour and texture, which I really like in person.

The grouting isn’t finished yet in these photos. I’m planning to use a navy grout with the dark blue tiles rather than a contrasting grout, so it should hopefully look more cohesive once finished and a lighter grout for the floor tiles.

The floor is a plain warm cream tile.

For the two remaining non-tiled walls, I’m planning to do half-height tongue-and-groove panelling with wallpaper above. I’m hoping this will make it feel a bit warmer and more characterful rather than like a very modern/clinical bathroom.

What do you think of it so far? Does the Blue Note work with the cream floor? And do you think the navy grout is the right choice?

They’re a floral/hand-painted-style tile in a very soft cream with blue, yellow, and muted pink/purple flowers. I originally loved them, but now that they’re going up across the room on 2 adjacent walls I’m not sure if I’ve made the right choice.

Obviously, the bathroom is still very unfinished (the lower half is going to be tiled the same tile, fixtures still need to go in, etc.), so I’m struggling to picture the finished result.

Do you think they’ll look good once everything is finished, or have I made a mistake? 😂 I’d genuinely appreciate honest opinions!
