Tips for a ultra budget build

I recently wanted to go backpacking, but didn't want to splurge on a tent that I might not use again, so I decided to build one from the stuff I could find in a hardware store. The pictured tent is made of:

A 8x6 heavy duty tarp

250 ish feet of paracord

2 2ft pvc pipes (with a coupler just in case)

10 tent stakes

And I think I did pretty well for a first try, however its time for improvement.

The main things I'm worried about the dip down the middle, the way the walls droop even though the ridgeline is taut (when I put the middle stakes in tight the middle dips even more), and the overall weatherproofing of it.

Does anyone have solutions to these problems, or advice to make it better (besides "buy a actual tent")? Thanks!

Edit: Sorry, forgot to add context. Ill be camping in New England in the summer/ early fall.

Edit: Thanks for all the advice! I will see what cheap tents I can find bc this is apparently the worst tent possible

Hot take: I don't like the bunker raid on OW

The bunker raid is a great thing for lower levels to grind out money (I typically could buy a new gun after every raid) and its a great finale for liberating the whole island, but I don't like it.

For one, its not challenging. Sure, if you're soloing it or have a small squad its a challenge, but not in public servers. I've played the game for almost a year now, been in hundreds of lobbies, and I have never seen a bunker raid fail.

Now you could say its bc theres almost the whole server there, or bc theres lots of strikers and troop carriers, but I've had servers clear it without strikers, and typically 80% of the people don't get more than a few kills.

Theres a few sections that are difficult without some sort of backup (the 3rd section mostly) but they don't take that much more time on foot compared to in vehicles.

And then you say "well you get 3k for hardly doing anything" and thats true for the lower levels, but for me its not worth it to just walk and fire a few shots over the next 25 min for a bit of cash. Sure I wouldn't make as much clearing Koz or Quarry, but it will be more interesting (and, come to think of it, with the new loot rooms it might be more profitable).

And finally theres the experience. I have a pretty bad laptop, so when everyone is in the same area at once it tanks my performance. I can't shoot anyone bc there almost always someone in front of me, and so I kinda just walk for 20 minutes, shoot 5 or 6 guys, and then dump my ammo on the map at the end.

I don't know what they could do to fix this, besides just overhauling the entire bunker, but considering the best solution is to just not do it, I just clear a town while yall do it. That way everyone has a good time. I think it'll be a good challenge for the low levels when all the veterans go over to the SEA map when it comes out.

What do yall think? Do yall like the bunker or not?

Where to learn about optics/armor?

To me, most of the optics/armors are just slightly differences from each other, but I would like to know more about them.

One of my main hobbies is firearms, so the slight differences for those make sense to me (all 556 rifles are practically the same, but are all developed differently and have slight variations like weight, desired function, fire modes, amount of rails, etc). Most of my interest started from youtubers like Forgotten Weapons.

Is there a place to learn about all the slight differences and uses for armors and optics? Bc I just make loadouts that look good, and I need to larp more.

Muldraugh is not a joke (B41)

Pt. 3 of my Muldraugh Crusade posts.

Finally got my car back! It only took 15 hours of straight gunfire.

Sorry the video is so long, but i wanted to show off the carnage I have done in the past few days here at Muldraugh. Just today I killed 1012, either with an SMG or a shotgun (Britas Guns). I used just about 400 shells and probably 900 9mm rounds. Hopefully thats the brunt of it, just gotta sweep up the residential hopefully. Total kills is 6534, 43 days in.

u/CurrentDog3300 — 28 days ago

Glad I got away bc wth

Jesus why does Muldraugh have this many zeds? I'm continuing my crusade from my previous post and needed a saw for planks. I saw the warehouse at the far end of Muldraugh and thought "oh I have a car, how hard can it be?" Well turns out its actually pretty hard. Hopefully one of the other cars works till I can get to safety. Ignore the shout I fat fingered it taking the screenshot.

Quick question: I normally just drive through Muldraugh and forget about it; does the main road have the bulk of the zeds? Or is the entire town packed like this? I am at a normal (1.0) population multiplier.

Edit: Sorry I should've clarified, I'm an outlier bc this playthrough is still B41. Sorry for the confusion!

Gun Safe Recommendations?

Hey yall, I'm hopefully going to become a part of the community soon (depending on how long the CT certification takes) and need some long gun safe recommendations.

I don't really care about fire protection or anything, I just want to keep my little brothers away from the gun. I plan on getting a mauser type rifle so I would prefer one thats 50+ inches tall. I don't plan on getting any more for the time being, so just a 4-10 gun would be fine. Does anyone know any good brands for (hopefully) less than a thousand dollars? Thanks yall!

Edit: Thanks for all the replies! I'll look more for gun cabinets than safes, and I've seen a few that'll work.

My body is a machine that turns overrun towns into warzones

Was trying to clear out Muldraugh a bit and was having trouble with the zeds, idk how to describe it, bleeding? out of the woods to the south. Was preparing to fortify the police station when I realized what a mess I've made trying to clear out this town. This is a cleaner section too. So far I've leveled up 3 times in Spear, 2 times in Short Blunt, and once in Long Blunt.

Decision on surplus mauser variants

Hi yall, I've been surfing the web looking for mausers (mostly copies) trying to find one for my collection.

I want a Czech VZ. 24 (as I've heard they're the best variant out there) however most of the options I see are really beat up and typically have all sorts of problems. The other one I've seen the most are Yugo M48s, which are typically in very good condition, some still caked in Cosmoline. However they have a shorter action than a K98 and hence aren't compatible with any of the parts.

My question is, which one is the better option? A beat up, but higher quality and more historically accurate VZ. 24, or a better conditioned, but incompatible M48? I want to be able to take it out to the range and be accurate with it. Thanks yall!

Edit: Thanks for the feedback! I hope yall have a good day!

Level 100 Celebratory Post

I recently hit Level 100, and I just gotta say this game is great. Decided to celebrate by sharing my loadouts and some of my favorite weapons.

Vietnam Era: He's got my best attempt at M1967/ ALICE webbing, and runs either the M24 or the M16A2 (Mostly the M24, I can't stand the M16 rear sight).

SAW Gunner: He was my original Militia loadout, so a bit more casual than your average soldier. He brings 400 rounds of ammo, and he WILL solve any problem that can get fixed by shooting something. He runs, you guessed it, the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon.

German: This was honestly just an excuse to use Flecktarn (I love flecktarn, its so cool looking), I'll probably update it if Gnar ever adds a G3 to the game. He runs either the G36, G36k, HK416, and the MP5.

GWOT Multicam: I wanted to see what the cag thing was all about, and I think I did well. He either runs the M16A4, SCAR-L, SCAR-H SAW, or M110.

Militia: Now this is my main Civ build that I run. You know those like Vietnam spec ops units that used AKs and stuff (I think they're called MACVSOG)? I imagine he's like an ex-member of that. Uses either the AK-103, AKSU-74, Groza, or MK18.

Civilian: This was kind of a joke tbh, he's the stereotypical fudd, who says things like "if it was good enough for my grandpa its good enough for me." He runs all stock weapons, either the M16, Python, or M1911.

This is getting long so a speedrun through my favorite weapons from each class:

Assault Rifles: SIG 550, AK 103

Carbines: M4 Carbine/ AR variant, Groza

PDW: P90

SMG: MP5

Shotgun: M1014

Battle Rifle: SA 58

DMR: M110

Sniper: M24

LMG: SAW M249

My top 5 overall are

  1. The SAW
  2. The M4A1
  3. SA58
  4. AK 103
  5. AUG

If you read to the bottom of this, I hope you enjoyed! I've been playing this game since last August, and I doubt I have less than 300 hours in it. Its not the best all the time (my laptop sucks so I play at pretty much rock bottom settings) but its the best Milsim I have every played. Here's to 100 levels, and hopefully 100 more!

Fastest Trigger in the (North) West

I always say tap firing is better than full auto; almost the same fire rate for way less recoil. Sorry about the audio, its kinda quiet.

u/CurrentDog3300 — 1 month ago

Finally done.

Finally soloed naval for the mission. Don't ask me how many tries it took.

And honestly, those 5 guys up at the AA gave me more trouble than everything else combined. If I broke stealth, 999/1000 it was because those guys got hit once and just started blasting.

The Groza is fire tho. I typically don't use AK type rifles (SAW goes brrrr) but if you slap the 40 round mag on it its like a oversized PDW. Obviously not that much range, but you can shred through enemies at close range.

How to make my stuff slimmer?

I feel like I dont carry much, but my pockets always bulge from everything in them. In my left pocket I have:

My wallet

Car Keys

Earbuds

Something like a pager? Its hard to explain

And in my right pocket is my phone. Not pictured is my folding knife I keep in my back right pocket.

I almost always wear jeans, and my fit makes my pockets either look full or bulging from my pants. Any advice? Thanks yall!

Edit: Thanks for the advice! I should get new pants, they were just higher quality Lucky Brand jeans so I wanted to keep them for as long as possible.

I get the point that they are too small/ skinny jeans, so the "take off the kid/girl jeans and put them back in the closet" comments aren't helping......

Edit to my edit: What jean brands would yall recommend for a broke college kid trying to get a new wardrobe of jeans? (All of my current jeans fit like the ones in the picture)

Accidental TF2 refrence

So I just unlocked the M320 and wanted to try it out. I decided (since the grenades are kinda heavy) that I wanted a lighter, shorter range loadout and.....

God dammit I'm a demo man

Also Idk what yall are complaining about, the grenade launcher is sick

Edit: So Ive played a bit more... and yeah it kinda sucks. Theres not that much AOE damage, its mostly been just single kills. Still cool tho

u/CurrentDog3300 — 1 month ago

I hate my laptop

I play on a 7 year old laptop, and it gets to the point where I switch to manual graphics and crank it up to 7 just to see terrain, and when I land put it on auto graphics, where I assume from the render distance its like at a 2 or 3. I can't wait to get a pc....

Kudos to the Devs for this banger update

I've been seeing a lot of negativity around this new update, with people complaining about the HQ changes (myself included) and such, however I wanted to share the things I like about the update to show the devs its not a trash update.

  1. I think the new gunsmith UI looks great. Its a lot cleaner than the old one, and it doesn't have weird glitches like the flashlights being super bright or the gun being blacked out (Im ignoring the 99999$ dollar Sig and HK rifles, as theyre more funny than game breaking, and will get fixed soon).

  2. I like how they added women. (Omg girls playing a milsim game run!!!!) Seriously though as much as I liked my HQ members being mid-gender transition, its good to have customization for all and to be more inclusive. Maybe if yall could get a grip it wouldn't be so controversial.

  3. I like the OW missions. I have been having fun going to the compounds and doing the little missions. It gives the game a bit more depth than "go here and kill everyone". It gives me a taste of what the older builds were like (I started playing last August, so Ronograd is all I know). I hope they make it more rescuey so it lives up to the game name.

  4. Im really excited for the grenade launcher. Sure, its heavy, and it'll take a bit to unlock it, but cmon its a grenade launcher. How cool is that? You can finally give mortars a taste of their own medicine. It also sucks how everyone I saw went from "OMG im so excited for the grenade launcher!" to "wow it sucks its just a heavier grenade". Like duh its a "GRENADE LAUNCHER". It should perform like a grenade. Also larp, for whatever thats worth.

Hopefully the Devs will listen to feedback, and yall will leave constructive criticism and we can all enjoy the game! What do yall like about the update?

Why do I yawn and cry while reading out loud?

Yes I like reading, so its not bc I'm bored.

My little brother has bedtime stories, but when I read out loud to him I just cannot stop yawning. And I'm not tired or bored, its just like a reflex? And with that my eyes get all teary bc of my yawning.

Why does this happen? Can I fix this?

Where to find old ads like these?

I love these old type of ads for military products, whether it be planes, grenade launchers or firearms. However I was wondering if there was a database/website where I could find a bunch of them to make posters out of for myself. Does anyone know of this sort of thing? Thanks yall!

Edit: Thanks for all the feedback! I'll start looking on Ebay for old magazines and I'll see what I get. Have a good day yall!

Fun fact about the Hunger Game movies

Something I realized while watching the movies:

In the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Snow uses a G3 rifle as his Peacekeeper firearm, while in Mockingjay Pt. 2 Peeta is using a G36, a gun made by the same company (Heckler & Koch) a few decades later.

This would make sense in a country like Germany, but would be weird in the US where neither were adopted/used by the US military at any point. Maybe the writers wanted to be consistent in their gun choices? It was just something interesting I noticed.

Do you buy games before you can run them?

The title basically.

I have a really bad laptop that can't run Fortnite, let alone RDR2. However I see the games I like go on sale from time to time, so I was just wondering about yall. Do you buy games before you can actually play them and have them sit in your library? Or do you wait until you have a better machine to get them?

Edit: Thanks for the feedback! I'm broke rn anyways, but it was nice to hear what others do. Have a good day!

What are yalls backgrounds?

Found this sub from a post in r/teenagers And while I do consider myself left leaning (I would vote Democrat, but they do have their own problems), it is really interesting to see the other side.

I actually grew up conservative (Iowa born and raised) and I was just wondering, what kind of backgrounds do yall have? What shaped your beliefs? What do yall believe in? Is there anything yall collectively agree on? I've been out of the loop of it for awhile so it would be interesting to see how its changed.

Now, to be clear, I am not hating yall. Everyone has a right to their opinions/beliefs, and who am I to tell you you're wrong. I think that discourse/ discussion is necessary part of democracy, and it sucks seeing the toxic comments yalls posts get. There are extreme people on all sides, and it really tarnishes reputations.

Feel free to ask me any questions yall have! I'll try to get back to this post, but its late at night so we'll see. Thanks!

Edit: Thanks for the discussions yall! Feel free to comment/ share more opinions, but I won't reply to any until tomorrow.
