I went somewhere and my partner didn’t have to leave the apartment.

So I’m blind and recently started mobility and orientation training. I’ve also been attending classes for other skills for living without vision at a vision loss center recently. Yesterday, for the first time in years, I left my home by myself and went somewhere without needing my partner or another family member to help me.

I left the apartment, got into the elevator, went down to the lobby, and out the front door without assistance. The para-transit driver helped me into the vehicle and into the VLC. Then in the afternoon after I was brought home I unlocked the door and made it back up into my apartment. And I didn’t have to bother my partner for help once the whole time.

I took out the trash

I’m blind and recently started orientation and mobility training. Today I asked my partner to show me where the trash chute is so he wouldn’t be solely responsible for the trash anymore. After he showed me, I took the bag of trash down the hall and found my way back to our apartment without assistance.

My husband is kinda driving me crazy

Before I start, I’m not here to shit talk the guy. I love him to death and I don’t know what I’d do without him. So let’s just skip over the typical response of divorce him spousal complaints often get here, ok?

That said, he’s driving me up the wall! For starters he’s bipolar and currently unmedicated due to insurance bullshit. He’s currently manic and has been for a while. This particular moment he’s been playing the same goddam song on repeat for 3 1/2 hours by my count. How the fuck does anybody do that

Lately he’s gotten into a hobby of writing. By itself this is great. He’s been writing a fanfic of a game, which is fine. I’m glad he’s found something he enjoys to fill his time, he needed that.

Here’s the problem: he wants to tell me all about it. He tells me about the game, the characters, the AI bots he has trained to act like the character the fanfic is primarily about, and he tells me about the story. Why is this bothering me? Because I do not care about any of it beyond that he’s enjoying it.

I haven’t played the game, kinda can’t, and don’t want to. It’s a genre I don’t have any interest in, and I’m blind and it’s not really accessible. I don’t care about the game and I can’t make myself.

And he wants to read some of what he wrote to me. And he kinda has to read it because of the blind thing. This will eat up to an hour and a half at a time. And then I have to pretend I care about the characters and the story so as to spare his feelings when I just want to go back to whatever I was doing before.

I get he’s excited and all, but I don’t blather on about my interests that he isn’t interested in. But I’m afraid to say anything because I don’t want to hurt him and I really don’t want to undo the progress we’ve made on repairing some relationship damage I did a couple years ago.

Why are the people complaining on r/monkeyspaw not upvoting me?

I keep finding complaints on r/monkeyspaw about people not understanding how the paw is supposed to work, often in the form of wishes that people would understand how the monkey’s paw works.

The paw is supposed to make what you want happen through means that are more painful or otherwise bad than not having what you asked for is. People on the sub often grant wishes by having thing happen that technically grants the wish but with some nasty side effect. For example, if you wish for more free time the way it’s supposed to work would be “you get fired, your partner leaves you, and all your friends all ghost you.” So you now have free time with no way to enjoy it. Most people seem to put things like “you now have 15 more hours a week with nothing you need to do but because of messing with the time line seconds feel like days during those 15 hours and the discrepancy makes you unable to concentrate during the hours and thus be unable to do anything” putting the curse after the wish instead.

So I’ve been commenting replies that put the curse before the wish Yet hardly anyone upvotes me for my effort goes unnoticed. You’d think they’d encourage what they want to see more of. The ingrates.

(Note: I’m not taking this that seriously. I just want to give someone complaining about the lack of complaints on this sub what they wanted.”

Vampires, mummies, and life

Looking at the nature of the kindred, the arisen, vitae, and sekhem and it got me wondering something. Is vitae a form of sekhem?

It would make some kind of sense that the two undead protagonists would have some sort of fundamental similarity in how they work. The Mummy: the Curse corebook does specify that vampires along with other types of undead are types of lifeless, not just the shuankhsen. Across both editions of Requiem in various books it’s reiterated that vitae is the stolen life energy that fuels vampires and other creatures that use it. The MtC book says this about sekhem:

“Sekhem is the mystical energy emanating from all living things, allowing for the free flow of feelings and recollection in the universe. “

So vitae and sekhem are both life and both power undead characters. Kindred and arisen are both continuously running out of the energy, it’s just much easier for vampires to acquire more.

If sekhem is also more abundant in creatures with more complex emotions and memory, as the above definition hints, then it would make sense that as kindred get stronger they need a form less diluted. This explains why their feeding requirements get more demanding.

This also could hold some implications for the Lancea et Sanctum and theban sorcery. The original rituals to call forth the miracles was found in Egypt, and were already ancient when found. Is theban sorcery a way of filtering the same sekhem based magic of the type ritual sorcerers use just filtered through the blood? It would explain the willpower requirement, taking the place of a pillar point to ease the ritual into working. Were the first mekhet an attempt to recreate the right of return?

I’d love to hear any thoughts or ideas or criticisms.

“Actually,” I explained to the fae attorney, “you’ll find that my lawyers have ensured this takeover follows all preexisting contracts between my firm and both the Seely and Unseely courts precisely to the letter.”

Having to cut the hearts from 666 virgins had been a daunting task, but it was what the retainer fee for the Law offices of Rofocale, Morningstar, and Mephistopheles required and I had just ensured that it was a worthwhile effort.

How do I get a rule added to this sub that states that any posts that include the term ‘sugar daddy’ will be removed and making multiple posts containing that term will get banned?

It’s a problem. I will do whatever. I will blow or lick all the mods (according to anatomy and preference) if needed. We gotta stop this infestation. It’s worse than a colony of ant/cockroach hybrids started behind your fridge.

Edit: typo fixed

Trying to find a name

Recently I got a new white cane. This is my third one. I gave the first two names and I’m trying to come up with one for this cane and I’m looking for suggestions for a good pun name.

My first one was Michael Cane and the second was Nicky Stixx. I’d like something in that direction, and I’m not really a super fan of either of the actual people though I enjoy their work. It was just that the names seemed amusing to me.

Any ideas?

I used to love coming home to see my wife and son cuddling on the couch after work every day.

After the accident, eventually the mold and maggots made seeing them like that every day too much for my stomach.

I accidently did a ban evasion, and I’m confused about something

A while back I answered a hypothetical that resulted in my account being permanently banned, then after my appeal the account was restored. The ban also hit the account I use for horny stuff, as it was an associated account, but the appeal on that account failed and it’s still banned.

Since my main account is still active, I assume I’m still allowed on reddit and made a new account for horny stuff. Then I messed up and commented on a community I had been banned from on the old horny account for saying my DMs were open. Now I’m a bit confused about the situation.

What will happen if I try to make a new account with the email or phone number linked to the banned accounts?

Will anything happen to this account if I attempt to make another one?

I’m a monster hunter, and I protect people by killing the things that go bump in the night however I have to.

Yes, I know the family of five was in the house when I torched it, and unfortunate as it was their absence would have tipped off the vampire that slept in their attic every day.

Am I the crazy one for thinking they’re different things?

As a preface, I don’t know that much about WoD or VtM but I know quite a bit about CofD and VtR.

My main question is: Masquerade and Requiem are significantly different games, right?

On a post complaining that a lot of modern vampire fiction makes vampires all blessing and no curse I mentioned both VtM and VtR as examples of vampires that do have the cool powers but are definitively cursed. Then someone asks why I’m treating them as different games, saying Requiem is just retconned Masquerade. I point out how VtR grew into something distinct from VtM. They retort that WoD 5e is basically the same mechanically basically CofD. IDK enough to know how accurate this is but turned to the point that they’re different in substance by quite a bit.

They disagree with that with these points:
• they’re both goth horror
• they’re both sociopolitical with mafia vibes
• they have the same clans characterized the same, though some are bloodlines in Requiem

I heavily disagree, and think this is a reductive assessment that misses a lot of the point. I fink they’re substantially different because:
• they’re different sub genres, VtM is goth punk and VtR is modern gothic. Requiem doesn’t have the same punk energy and aesthetics as VtM, instead having more mystery and more subtle aesthetics
• VtR doesn’t have the default ‘fight the power’ gameplay assumption
• available factions offer a variety of sociopolitical conflicts than just mafia like

Am I off the mark here? Because I’d like to know if I am. I welcome any thoughts, criticism, differing perspectives, and opinions.

Larvae vs revenants

One of the many things that changed between 1e and 2e in VtR was the half damned. Ghouls were changed little ans dhampir were mostly improved IMO. However I’m not a fan of replacing the larvae with revenants.

If you’re unaware, larvae were introduced in probably my favorite VtR supplement, Night Horrors: the Wicked Dead. Essentially, they were what happened when the embrace didn’t take right or a draugr attempted the embrace. They were near mindless vampires with blood potency 0 and only able to use celerity, resilience, and vigor. The thing that made them scary is that they would run in packs and had a bag of nasty tricks they could pull as a group. Draugr, being similarly feral, made natural leaders for them, particularly when the draugr spawned them.

Compare this to revenants. Revenants are basically just kindred but worse. Playing one seems like playing a neonate with more inconvenience. The only thing that seems interesting about them to me is embarrassing the vampire responsible for them. Larvae, however, make frightening obstacles. Ther’s an arguement that they’re redundant with draugrs. I disagree, unlike draugr, larvae are prone to appear in large numbers. There’s little to do with revenants that can’t be done with neonates but larvae aren’t deep in application but are one of the scarier things both emotionally and physically. They’re frightening in the ways draugr are but having to deal with like a half dozen of them is both plausible and a serious threat.

Am I the only one to think 2e replacing larvae with revenant was a bad idea?
