First week of French101 and I am panicking

Bonjour,

I am taking French 101 through my community college. I had to take the online version unfortunately because I am a nontraditional student with 2 kids and no child care, anyways... After watching the first 2 recorded zoom classes I am feeling super lost and confused. It seems like everyone else taking the class already knows French and the prof. talks in a lot of French already in class. First assignment is to watch a movie in French and take notes. I know like 3 words in French. Is this typical and am I supposed to know more French for this class or are they just throwing us in there to get us fully immersed in the course?

Taking French for the first time in College.

Monday will be my first time taking French, and it’s one of my college courses. I’m starting to get a little nervous that it’s going to be really difficult!

I took a little Spanish in 8th or 9th grade, but I honestly don’t remember much of it. I don’t remember finding it particularly difficult, though. I’ve wanted to learn French for a while, so I thought taking it as a college course would be a good opportunity to finally learn.

My husband also took French for several years in high school and still knows a little, so hopefully he’ll be able to help me out here and there. 😂

For anyone who has taken French, is it particularly difficult? And do you have any good study tips or things you wish you had known when you first started?

Changing RSVP after deadline?

When I originally RSVPd to this wedding my schedule was much different. Now I am not sure my husband will be able to get the time off, and I am going to college and taking classes in person this semester which before they were all online. Its still a month out but its passed the RSVP deadline if I need to end up not going. I am worried my family member is going to be upset if I have to cancel.. What is the best thing to do in this situation? Also it's a kid free wedding so I had to arrange childcare but not sure they'd be able to take my kids to school that Friday so they would also be missing a day of school. (its out of state)

Finding a school social work internship?

I am thinking ahead a few years but I’m really interested in doing one of my internships with a school social worker. It seems really hard to find these types of positions though in my area. I don’t see any posted ever and I’m wondering if maybe the school has a private list of them or if they are just harder to come by? If I’m not able to do it as one of my internships would it be hard to get a job doing that once I’m licensed?

switching from online remote to online asynchronous?

Originally I signed up to take intro to sociology remote online (scheduled live meeting times) but the class will end 15 min before my in person class of statistics. This means I would likely have to go to the school early and do my online class at the school, not really sure if there is a space to do it in, to be there on time for my in person class. I saw there is one fully online class left with space so I was thinking of swapping it for that. Do you think the benefits of online/live class is really better? I have taken all my classes asynchronous online so far. I am taking Statistics in person because I am not good at math.

Shrank my topper cover

I had a super plush mattress topper cover from Naturally Nestled which appears to be out of business now. I washed it in the washer and dryer and shrank it. I thought it was washable. I am wondering if anyone knows where I might find a similar one? It had almost like a pillow top on the top side of it.

Booster Seat Options

I need to replace my children’s car seats after a car accident and I’m trying to figure out what the best options are.

My younger child was using a Graco Tranzitions, and my older child was using a Chicco MyFit. Instead of buying another Tranzitions, I’m thinking of passing the Chicco MyFit down to my younger child and getting my older child a dedicated high-back booster in a similar price range.

My younger child is almost 5 years old, about 44 inches tall, and 38 lbs. I’m planning to have him use the Chicco MyFit.

For my older child, I’m trying to decide between the Diono Cambria 2 and the Britax Skyline. He is almost 9 years old, around 54 inches tall (not exact), and about 60 lbs. He is very skinny and has autism, so although he is getting close to booster age, I don’t feel he is ready to consistently use a backless booster yet.

Our vehicles are a 2010 Subaru Forester and a 2013 Honda Pilot. I’d love opinions on which high-back booster would be the better choice, or if there’s another option I should consider.

Progressive Question

My mom recently got some progressive lenses and the prescription was slightly different than her old ones that are from 2024, but she feels like the reading portion is blurrier than her old ones. She chose 1.59 index which we read after the fact can sometimes not be as clear as high index lenses. She's not sure if maybe it's just her eyes and that she needs a new script (its from October 2025), they made it wrong, its the 1.59 polycarbonate lens, or its her cataracts getting worse. I am not really familiar with a + prescription like she has or with progressive lenses as I just have single vision and mine is a minus prescription.

Her script is

D.V. - OD Sphere +0.50, Cyl +0.50, Axis 110

OS Sphere +2.00, Cyl +1.00, Axis 175

N.V. +2.75

Hotel options in Bend, OR?

We were going to stay a night in Bend on our way home to Boise but the night we would be going through happens to coincide with a concert at the amphitheater so all the usual hotels I would stay at (Marriott, Hilton, best western etc) are all pretty pricey. Are any of the budget hotels okay? My priorities are safe area and cleanliness as well as a pool for the kids to swim in. We need at least 2 real beds because it is myself, my 72 year old mother, and 2 children. Some of the hotels that are usually recommended are $400 a night!

BK sucks, a warning about letting them know when your order is incorrect

I go to bk with my kids almost weekly after swimming. I happened to let them know 3 times in the last year about incorrect orders. I receive a $3 app coupon that I didn’t even use and a refund of $2.95 for an expired pie. I just got a notification that my account was suspended for “fraudulent activity”

Insurance claim/rate question

My partner accidentally backed into a parked car and the other driver filed a claim with their insurance and my insurance, will it affect my rate if I get my car fixed as well or does it not matter since there’s already a claim filed for the other driver? Going to get an estimate to see if it’s just cosmetic damage. My deductible is $500 but I have a feeling it will cost $1500-$2000+ to repair.

The Disney planes

Is it possible to specifically book a flight on one of the Disney planes? I assume they fly into the airports by Disneyland? I saw one the other day when at PDX.

Full spectrum (or close to it) actual smart bulbs?

I wanted to replace the light bulbs in my lamps around the house with some full spectrum (or however close to it I can get) to help my plants get a bit more light. Anyone have any recommendations for some smart bulbs that would work? I do plan to get actual grow lights as well for winter/darker months. My house just doesn't get a lot of light.

Adrian Loafer sizing.

I wear between a 10 and 9 in woman's shoes depending on brand. In the Carlson mules im a 10 but in some of the sandals and the platform sinclairs I am a 9. I ordered a pair of the Adrian unisex loafers second hand in size 10 but theyre way too big, even an insole or heel pad likely won't help but I am wondering if the 9 is going to be way too small?

Doc Marten Sandal sizing

Do most of the sandals run big? In certain docs I wear a size 9 but in some other ones like the mules I wear a 10. I am looking at some second hand ones online and not sure if I should go for a 9 or a 10 looking at the blaire slide sandals with the flower buckle (no ankle strap) and the Blaire Hydro Leather Strap Platform Sandals. I wear a 9 in the chilton slides and the Sinclair platform boots (woman's)

▲ 2 r/venmo

I woke up this morning to an email saying Venmo cancelled my debit card without any warning. I use Venmo every once in awhile and just used it last week but I guess not the debit card in awhile is this normal for them to just cancel your card even if your account is active?

I feel like everyone always looks more put together and fashionable than me and no matter what I always look sloppy and frumpy. I have a lot of sensory issues around clothing but I want to look more put together, does anyone have advice on where to find clothing that’s comfortable but still looks stylish? I also dress more in the alternative fashion. I find myself just wearing leggings and t shirts lately because everything looks ugly or is uncomfortable. Most jeans feel like a torture device 😆 I am probably around a size 20/22 rn which is another thing because I was around a 16/18 for a long time and now alot of my clothes doesn’t fit. It’s also so hard for me to find pants that fit properly I have tried regular and also “curvy” and still end up with weird gaping in the back around my waist.

Is this considered "using AI" like chatgpt etc? I always considered it an acceptable feature of power point to help organize/design slides but now I am over thinking it and wondering if it might break the academic integrity clause of not using AI?
