I'm trying to force myself to become a reader again to make it a habit and increase reading speed and comprehension. Just looking for entertainment for now, maybe any fiction of any genre.

I think the last time I read a whole book was about 15-20 years ago.

I've read The Long Walk by Stephen King in 5th or 6th grade and really enjoyed it as my first big book and horror (not really horror)/suspense.

Perks of Being a Wallflower in high school after seeing the movie.

Where the Red Fern Grows after growing up with the movie.

And most recently I told myself to read my first whole book before seeing the movie because I don't have hardly any interest in the book after the simplicity of watching it (I know that's not the same but that's why I'm trying to condition myself to enjoy reading again and have less digital entertainment)

That book I finished today was Project Hail Mary, and I absolutely loved it. I usually hate sci-fi especially when it gets into big fictional language and terms like Planet Gorgon in the Zebtha Galaxy. That kind of sci-fi always turns me off. Idk why really. But I could NOT put down PHM! I think because it didn't always get too technical or sciency. I also loved the way the story unfolds and the relationships that happen throughout.

But now I'm left wondering what to try next? I'm not sure whether to go back to my roots of horror, or try another sci-fi to see if it was a fluke, or maybe some other genre entirely?

Whatever level of pacing and vocabulary that PHM was, and of what I remember The Long Walk being, I'm thinking something along those lines.

I don't mind books that are movies if I haven't seen them yet but I've watched a lot of movies and if I've seen it, I might find it hard to read it right now. Maybe find me something that isn't adapted to the screen yet.

If I need to give more info to help me find some options, let me know.

Thanks!

Please help me desolder. When do I know I got it all to where the component will come off? I've been mixing my lead 63/37 solder with the ps5 controller non-leaded and trying to wick with wick and flux. I still can't get the analog box off. I'm getting discouraged and it looks burnt now.

Left is my desolder, right is the solder before taking it off

I did my first ever solder job! A practice kit. It's a little dirty from the flux. I tried a few without flux and it was fine and clean. Is this a "clean tip"? I can't seem to clean the rest of the metal.

Is a sponge enough cleaning to get started? Or do I NEED brass?

I bought a soldering iron and some practice kits. The iron I bought didn't come with brass for cleaning but came with a sponge. Will that be enough to get practicing? I'd like to get started this weekend.

"I didn't actually forget to cancel, that was just for the title." I love that she's too innocent and honest that she disclosed that with us. 😅

Does the FAA reimburse Uber rides when going back to academy for classes?

I've got RTF and TSEW and I wanted to drive, but they only reimburse the flight ticket.

Will they reimburse any Uber rides while I'm there to get around for food and personal entertainment?

I'm not sure where to find this information.

GameStop gave me 20% off a Power Pack in an email and I won. I'm going to hold onto vintage for a long time.

Just found out MX Player has been bought last year and these ads are annoying. I liked MX Player's UI with a bunch of bubbles, and the option to pinch and drag a very specific sizing ratio instead of presets. What no-ads video-player app is the go-to for features like that?

If post pics of examples of the features in talking about but not allowed

I've had it 2 days...

I laid it screen-down on the toilet lid while I took a shower and heard a clack noise while I was showering. It's so slippery when face down. My fault for not getting a case right away 🥲, I just love the Sandstorm color so much.

Can anyone suggest seating for the Liacouras Center? It's a comedy show.

I'm wondering if 109 or 107 (about $200) is fine or even maybe the back 207-209 (about $100). I want my older father to be able to hear alright but also don't want to pay $300 for floor if I don't have to.

Happy 25 years Lord of the Rings! My darn marker gave out for some signatures, but based on some experiences for others, I'm grateful to have even had the opportunity to get all 4 to sign.
