Dealing with a boss who takes credit for your work

My manager keeps presenting my projects as her own in meetings with senior leadership. I've mentioned it casually but nothing's changed. Do I push back harder or just document everything and find a new team?

Is it normal for accountants to take on compliance work outside their main role?

My manager's asking me to handle some tax compliance stuff that's not really in my job description and I'm not sure if this is standard practice or if I should be pushing back. Are people doing multiple types of work within accounting firms or is everyone pretty specialized?

Networking in accounting, does it actually help or is it just awkward standing around?

Know I should probably go to more industry events and actually talk to people but it feels fake. That said I've heard some people got their best opportunities through contacts they made casually. How real is this networking thing actually?

Anyone actually seeing salaries keep up with workload expectations lately?

Every performance review or job listing talks up competitive pay, but when you factor in the sheer volume of work, the unpaid overtime, and how thin teams are being stretched, the math just does not add up. It feels like we are expected to do the work of a person and a half just to get a standard inflation adjustment, let alone a real bump in value. Is anyone actually finding firms or companies where the pay genuinely reflects the stress and hours, or is moving around the only way to not get squeezed?

What's one financial habit that made a much bigger difference than any investment decision you've made?

For those who have been on the FI journey for a while, what's the one financial habit that had the biggest impact on your wealth?

Can you actually make money from credit card churning or is it just a headache?

Seen people talk about it but the rewards seem pretty modest when you account for annual fees and the hassle. Is there a strategy that actually works or is it just people convincing themselves they're winning?

Why does it feel like mid tier accounting firms are just turning into outsourcing agencies?

Every second recruiter calling for intermediate or senior roles seems to be hiring for a team that spends half its time just fixing or managing offshore data entry. It is getting incredibly frustrating trying to get actual public practice experience when the local work is being reduced to just reviewing low quality source data

What is the best small business to start in Australia with $10000 in capital right now?

I am not looking to get rich overnight, just keen to invest my savings into a service-based side hustle that I can scale safely using my own equipment and a decent website

What is your absolute best hack for lowering the quarterly electricity bill?

Winter is hitting hard and the temptation to run the reverse cycle heating all day is real. Aside from the obvious things like electric blankets and closing off unused rooms, what are the small, hidden power drains that people completely overlook?

If you could create your own permanent menu item, what are you building?

We need a hybrid burger that combines the flame-grilled patties with the actual crunchy chicken from the Jack's Fried Chicken range. Call it the land monster or something. Surely someone working the line has experimented with this on their break

Can someone explain the actual reality of a family guarantee loan without the sugarcoating?

My parents have offered to put up equity in their home to help us avoid paying Lenders Mortgage Insurance. It sounds great on paper, but what happens if we default or want to sell the place in a few years? Does it completely lock them into our mortgage forever?

Best value streaming strategy for a family entertainment budget

Paying for Netflix, Stan, Disney, and Binge simultaneously is starting to look like a second utility bill. Thinking about moving to a strict rotation system where we only subscribe to one service for a month, binge everything we want to see, and then swap. Anyone else doing this successfully?

Onion rings vs thick cut chips

If you are ordering a meal, do you stick with the standard chips or upgrade to the onion rings? The chips have improved massively since they changed the recipe a few years back, but a good batch of onion rings dipped in smoky bbq sauce is elite. Which side are you on?

BYD to lead $13.6 million vehicle-to-grid expansion in Australia

I actually think vehicle-to-grid is one of the more interesting EV developments we've seen in Australia. If my car is sitting in the driveway 90% of the time anyway, the idea of using some of that battery capacity to help power my home or earn a bit of money from the grid makes a lot of sense, provided it doesn't create battery warranty headaches down the track. BYD is now helping expand Australia's largest residential V2G rollout to 1,000 households, so we're finally going to get some real-world data instead of just theory. Would you be happy letting the grid use your EV battery if it reduced your power bill, or is that a hard pass?

Why is the APRA serviceability buffer still sitting at 3%?

It feels absolutely impossible to pass a home loan assessment right now when banks have to test your ability to pay at an extra 3% above the actual market rate

What's the most useful thing you've ever kept in your car for emergencies?

For me, it is a small portable 12v air compressor and a tire plug kit. I used to think a spare tyre was enough until I hit a pothole on a rainy night and realized the spare was completely flat too. Being able to plug a nail hole and pump the tyre back up right there on the rim saved me a massive towing fee and hours of waiting around

BYD is working on a new car specifically for Australia

BYD Australia is reportedly looking at bringing a different small hatch here instead of the new Dolphin G. The Dolphin G sounds like it could have been a strong option with its plug in hybrid setup and claimed 1000km-plus range, but BYD seems focused on other models for the local market right now. Do you think Australia is missing out, or are there already enough small hatch and EV options on sale here?

The Darwin rental market is officially unhinged, how is anyone surviving?

Just got our lease renewal through for a basic 2-bed apartment in Nightcliff and they want to jack the rent up by another $110 a week. I looked online to see what else is out there and it’s just grim-people wanting $650+ for absolute dumps that haven't been renovated since Tracy. With the cost of power and groceries up here already being the highest in the country, my partner and I are genuinely considering packing up and moving back down south. Is anyone actually successfully negotiating with landlords at the moment?
