ELI5: Why do disposable lighters look like they have two fluid chambers?

I was looking at a clear disposable lighter, and it looks like the fluid is separated into two different chambers by a wall of plastic in the middle. Is this actually two separate tanks? If so, why do they do it this way instead of just having one big container?

ELI5: Why are there no naturally blue, green, or red mammals?

I know birds, reptiles, and fish have bright colors and even natural blue or green pigments. Why is it that mammal fur is almost exclusively limited to shades of brown, black, grey, and white? Are mammals just biologically unable to produce other colors?

Listening to U2 - The Unforgettable Fire. Is it just me, or do vinyl pops and cracks add to the 80s aesthetic?

I'm spinning my old copy of 'The Unforgettable Fire' right now. It's got a fair amount of surface noise, but honestly? It feels so right. It adds a layer of atmosphere that feels authentic to the era.

Do you guys prefer your 80s records to be 'dead silent' (like a remaster) or do you think the crackle is part of the soul of that decade?

Beautiful Köpenick in the Early Morning | Spree | Fire Station

Early in the morning, on the way to work (viewed from 'Am Krusenick') — the water was so still that it created this stunning reflection.

Warum will mein Duschvorhang mich ständig "umarmen"?

My 13yo nephew finished this one in record time — apparently sunglasses are the cheat code for not drawing eyes 😎

Happy Birthday to the powerhouse Dave Abbruzzese! His energy on Vs. and Vitalogy was just next level. Pearl Jam’s rhythm section was never the same without him. Favorite track featuring Dave?

How do I stop sounding like a bot when using a translator?

English isn't my first language, so I often dictate my thoughts in my native tongue and use a translator for my posts. People keep calling me a bot or "GPT" because the translation comes out too formal.

How can I make my translated English sound more human and less "robotic" without being fluent yet?

My 13-year-old nephew got so inspired by r/goth's love for his Siouxsie sketch that he tried his hand at this!

The algorithmic feedback loop in aesthetics: Does it constitute a form of circular causality between subject and object?

I am looking for philosophical frameworks that address the recursive relationship between algorithmic curation and the development of aesthetic preference. Specifically, when a system (like Spotify or TikTok) suggests content based on a user's past "taste," and the user's future "taste" is subsequently shaped by those very suggestions, the distinction between the subject's agency and the object's influence becomes blurred.

Does this represent a modern version of the "Chicken or the Egg" paradox in the context of aesthetic judgment? Are there specific philosophers or theories (perhaps in the realm of Phenomenology or Critical Theory) that deal with this kind of "feedback loop" where the predictor eventually creates the reality it meant to predict?

Electric Light Orchestra - Here Is the News (Official Video)

Aside from the music, the futuristic news bulletins running in the background—cobbled together by Jeff Lynne—are simply brilliant!

Electric Light Orchestra - Here Is The News (Audio)

The song "Here Is The News" by the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is considered one of the most significant precursors of synth-pop and New Wave within the ELO catalog.

It was released in 1981 on the concept album *Time*, which swapped the band's classic orchestral sound almost entirely for synthesizers.

My 13-year-old nephew tried his hand at an artistic sketch of Siouxsie.

Hopefully, he acquires a taste for her sounds as well.

What is the most uplifting song for you when you're really feeling down because of heartbreak?

Or do you find yourselves listening to a truly heart-wrenching, pain-filled song—perhaps even more so?

Sometimes, isn't that exactly what helps!?
