A surveillance device found inside a car in south-eastern France (July 22, 2026)

A surveillance device was found on July 22, 2026 in a car in transit between the southeast and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

The device was discovered during a car radio replacement, after the old radio had been removed from its housing. Two microphones (left and right) were the first thing visible, glued to the plastic casing beneath the radio. They were connected to a box (a makeshift unit based on the Innova RB800 model) containing a SIM card (Orange) and a micro SD card, a small battery (1200 mAh), and a GPS tracker (Taoglas, a 2013 model). The entire assembly was connected to the radio's power supply and attached with adhesive putty to the casing beneath the radio.

The music must have really driven them crazy!

Update on the latest discovery (https://nantes.indymedia.org/posts/167658/les-autoradios-ont-des-oreilles/): A wire that wasn't followed to its end during the initial disassembly led to a magnetic box attached to a panel between the back of the car radio and the glove box (another plastic cover had to be removed). It contained a large battery and another GPS tracker (Taoglas, Quectel M66, Ublox MaxM10) with a SIM card (see photos). Given the connectors and the fact that the wire was plugged into the first device (see photos), this box doesn't appear to have been added later.
