How do you budget / manage your finances?

I finally have a consistent paycheck and health insurance. The only thing is it’s so expensive to just see a doctor.

I want to start building a savings account too (any recommendations welcome, right now I use Marcus by Goldman Sachs).

How do you budget / manage your finances? Do you budget at the start of the month? At the end? Anyone who is financially stable please help!! I’m so tired of being broke!!! And who knows how long this job will last!!!

How to stop dreading my period? Life gets put on pause once a month

I (28F) have always had really bad periods. I was on birth control for 14 years to deal with them but that truly was just a bandaid and so many side effects.

It feels like every month I get one or two “good” weeks where I have energy, my skin isn’t acting up, my hair curls nicely, I have energy to workout, my brain is functioning normally, I’m friendly & social and then the rest of the month I’m bloated, up 5-10 lbs, breaking out, tired, anxious, irritable, depressed, wanting to quit my job & breakup with my boyfriend who I love, really bad headaches & backaches, no energy to workout, so forgetful and then the week of my period I’m bleeding so heavy I feel like I can’t leave my house without a diaper on (overnight extra long pad) and have to wake up 30 minutes earlier just to shower & clean myself up before going to work because of how much I’ve bled (even with sleeping with a cup and overnight pad), my cramps are so bad I can hardly sit up right, I’m constantly leaking.

My periods aren’t going to stop any time soon so I need to learn to embrace life while I have it. Anyone experience something similar or have any tips?

I gain 10 lbs & get so bloated every month, it’s such a mental game.

Every month the week leading up to my period and the first half of my cycle I put on 10 lbs then it takes until my ovulatory phase to lose it and then the cycle starts back over.

It’s exhausting trying to plan date nights around when I’ll feel and look bigger and trying to plan outfits (I have adhd so executive functioning is already not my strong suit) for work and life. One day something fits me, the next I can’t button it. I’m so tired.

Anyone else experience this and found solutions?

Life Hack: Ditch the chair, use a purse/coat rack instead!!

For the clothes that are too dirty to go back in the closet but too clean to go in the dirty clothes hamper.

Freed up my desk chair & my floor!! Little to no executive functioning required. Clean? Hand up in closet. Dirty? Put in dirty clothes hamper. Not sure? Hang up until I decide or rack gets too full & I just end up washing it all anyways.

Nice guy to abuser signs & timeline?

One of my biggest fears is marrying a nice guy who turns out to be an abuser. I’m so scared he is putting on an act to get all my friends & family to like him so that if one day he does abuse me no one will believe me.

I can’t tell if this is past trauma being projected or my gut knows.

Currently no signs of abuse emotional, physical, or otherwise.

What is your daily routine?

As someone who works full time in an office (7 AM - 4 PM, unable to stop home during lunch), is single, lives in an apartment (no keys, just fobs so can’t copy for a pet sitter), likes to go the gym at least 4 times a week, and would like to do stuff with friends every once and a while AND has a dog with horrible separation anxiety, I am trying to figure out a good routine.

Any advice welcome & appreciated!

I had to move my dog in with my parents once I started my in office job (used to be fully remote) and am dying to get him back with me but just don’t know how to make this work!

Pros of being a woman with ADHD

Feeling VERY down and spiraling about how much my ADHD has negatively impacted my life. At the end of the day it’s not going anywhere so trying to remind myself of the positives and unique gifts we have as women with ADHD. What are some of your favorite things about being a woman with ADHD.

ADHD & … perfectionism? Overcompensation? Hyperfocus?

Anyone else present as high achieving, perfectionistic? I can’t tell if this is related to ADHD or if it’s a deeper childhood wound or perhaps related to trauma or just being a woman in today’s society or perfectionism or ocd or medication related or who knows what.

I overthink EVERYTHING to the point it is debilitating. For instance, packing to go to my parents (who live 30 minutes away) for a night takes me a week. I have to get out my notebook, write down exactly what we’ll be doing, what I’ll possibly need, then add it to my phone and see travel times, and then I have to lay everything out. I’ve never gone over there without a giant suitcase and it’s so exhausting.

This also shows up at work. For instance, trying to create structure and systems to organize Google drive might take me 8 hours to create a few folders because I’m overthinking it so much.

It sometimes looks like hyperfocus or anxiety or ocd or perfectionism. Whatever it is it’s debilitating and getting worse. Not sure what’s at the root (fear?) and what caused it but could use any tips, tricks, whatever to help heal this.

My Fitbit Ionic finally gave out after 8 years. Looking for a replacement with no subscription fees, swim tracking, sleep tracking, heart rate, steps, calories, alarms, long battery life, and the ability to disable most smart features.

Is this a red flag or a data point to consider or am I overthinking / self sabotaging?

I (28F) have been seeing this guy (26M) I met on a dating app over the last month. Our dates consist of going to mass and adoration together, cooking dinner together, concerts, and most recently watching a show together at my apartment alone.

I firmly believe the man should be leading in the relationship and the woman responds, especially in early dating, it’s important to observe while not being passive. I did a good job of this at first but the more I started to like him, the harder waiting and responding has become so I do recognize my role in this as well. And when I mean waiting I don’t mean anything sexual or physical, I just mean letting the relationship play out at the pace it has been.

I’m not super happy that I’ve been the one to drive all the real conversations. After 8 dates I asked him what we were doing, if he was still seeing other people on the dating app, & if were exclusive. I tried to be patient but after 8 dates I was so confused and frustrated I felt it was more prudent to bring it up than continue to wait.

Now with purity I’ve asked if we can carve out time on our next date to discuss boundaries to ensure we don’t fall into the near occasion of sin. Again, not super happy I’m the one driving this conversation. I feel as the man he should be protecting my purity and driving these conversations.

I’m not sure if I’m not being patient enough / rushing or if he simply isn’t at the spot I need in a future husband. I believe he can get there but I also don’t believe it’s my job to teach him how to a certain extent.

I have a tendency to overthink & self sabotage so where’s the line between being prudent and discerning vs being overly critical and self sabotage?

How would you organize this closest?

I just moved and have the same amount of stuff but this layout just isn’t working (I’m a huge bin person/categorization person). I feel like it’s super chaotic.

Pics 1-3 are my new closet (pic 2 shows bins against back wall, pic 3 shows if they were tucked on side wall). Pics 4-5 are of my last closet system that worked great for me!

I’m definitely on a budget so was hoping to forgo buying something for organization but I might have to bc this is driving me insane.

Any tips greatly appreciated!

I also still have to fit a large storage tote container in there too which is going to be such an eye sore.

Tips on setting up new space?

I (28F) just moved. I’d like to not have to buy a whole bunch and work with what I have so far but definitely will need a few more things.

Any advice on setting up my new space (pics 1-5) with the decor I already have (pics 6-7)?

I want it to feel cozy & be functional and not look cheap.

I can get rid of “bar cart” as I still have lots of space in cabinets. Would love to set up a prayer corner or nook.

From a principal perspective, how would you recommend I approach a contract negotiation

Hi there! I have a bachelor’s degree and previously led projects at Boeing and a tech startup. After 10 months of unemployment, I took a bridge job as an Administrative Assistant at a private school and currently make $23/hour.

I’ve only been here 4 months, I stepped in mid way through the year, but already my role has expanded significantly. I’ve streamlined operations, led implementation of a new SIS after the responsible staff member left, taken on projects (that I believe are) beyond my job description, and regularly handle work that would otherwise fall to the principal or the roles we currently have open and aren’t actively trying to fill.

Next year it looks like I’ll be taking on even more: admissions support, marketing, social media, website management, payroll hours, substitute and leave tracking, event planning, field trips, I just found out they have me on a few committees, and various school/parish events on top of my normal front office responsibilities.

When I was hired, I was told we’d revisit compensation July 1. That contract was bare bones and didn’t list any duties or sick leave. I was surprised when I recently received a very basic contract when the other teachers received their yearly contracts. This time it did have sick leave added but still no mention of holiday pay despite being hourly and working in a school with a lot of days off. They did give me a small raise, 23 cents, but removed the clause about meeting July 1st to discuss a raise. I spoke to the principal and she agreed to still meet with me to discuss a raise before I sign contract.

I genuinely like the job and want to help the school succeed, but I’m concerned my responsibilities are growing much faster than my compensation.

I’ve been keeping a running list of accomplishments, expanded responsibilities, projects, and positive outcomes. I’ll be meeting with the principal and priest, who are both overworked themselves, so I want to approach this thoughtfully.

What should I bring to this conversation? What accomplishments or metrics matter most? What would be a reasonable raise to ask for? Should I stay hourly or consider salary? And are there other things I should negotiate besides pay (holiday pay, PTO, comp time, title change, clearer expectations, etc.)? I come from a business background and want to ensure I’m tailoring this to and considering how schools operate. This current operation/school is very lax and not by the book at all which both helps and hurts this.

For more context, the principal is new to this role this year. There’s been 2 admin assistants this year, 3 teachers quit or were fired, no business administrator at the parish. At the beginning of the year they even had to take out a loan to pay some of the teachers because previous parish and admin were not managing financials how they should be. The priest is also new within the past year. Both have very big egos and personalities.

Looking for advice on negotiating a significant raise at a small private school, and how to best prepare for that conversation.

What app(s) are you using to track calories & other health data now that this new update has arrived?

I cannot stand this new update. Perhaps I just need time to learn and become familiar with the new interface but as of right now, it’s just not working for tracking calories. Any other suggestions?

7 dates in & I’m not sure if this is a healthy pace or not

I (27F) met a guy (25M) on hinge. We’ve seen each other quite a bit over the span of 2 weeks. We first met for a drink & food, the next time we went to confession & mass together, third time we went to mass together & then dinner, fourth time we went to a concert together, fifth time we hung out he came over and we cooked dinner together then watched a homily and discussed that, sixth time we went to mass together, seventh time he came over and we went for a walk. We have plans to see each other again this week.

He hasn’t tried to kiss me but he has hugged me and put his arm around me. He’s still on hinge, I deleted mine because I’m not interested in dating multiple people at the same time.

I’m super confused where things are headed. What’s a healthy pace? I think at our next date I will bring up what’s going on/where are we at, but I also don’t want to rush things. Until our most recent date I was totally fine with the pace until I was like wait … what’s going on?

Wanted to share a win I had while moving which in the past has sent me spiraling

I’m currently moving (again) due to (another) job loss and not being able to afford current rent at what was my dream apartment. I finally thought things were turning around for me but alas, the chaos resumes & things turn upside down once again.

Anyways, I wanted to share a win with my fellow ADHD women. This subreddit has been such an amazing support system, I cannot thank you all enough!!

Despite realizing I have waaayyy too much stuff, I wanted to share that multiple people who are helping with the move (all my sisters friends because I struggle with friendships) have complimented me on how much easier I’ve made their job in the way I prepared for the move!! The people pleasing side of me ate that one up.

I’m not able to help lift anything because of a back injury (used to manage ADHD & depression & anxiety with weightlifting & running and haven’t been able to workout since this injury) and I felt horrible but this totally made up for that.

I labeled everything, separated essentials, made things accessible, thought through logistics, etc. Normally I even make a whole map/layout before moving into a new place but I ran out of time this round. So unpacking and figuring out the new setup is probably going to be its own challenge and I’m sure I’ll turn here for help so if anyone has tips now, I’m happy to hear it!!

Anyways, just wanted to share and always happy to help provide moving tips!

Signed a lease without touring … how bad did I mess up?

Signed a lease in Wauwatosa at River Parkway ii apartments. Didn’t tour, just signed contract.

Just got the keys, or rather the fob to the place, & can’t help but feeling like it’s mostly smoke and mirrors. Whoever built this place did a horrendous job.

But my biggest takeaway was the smell, my lungs burning, & a really bad headache. I noticed there’s a foundry directly across the street and my apartment faces it.

I love the Shorewood area & am so happy here. The walking, the lake, the neighborhood, the people, the bike trails, all of it! Unfortunately I lost my job and had to move to somewhere more affordable. This was the only place I could find still relatively in the Milwaukee area with AC and in unit washer/dryer and garage parking that I could somewhat afford.

Anyone know the area or know someone who lives here or how bad it will be living this close to the foundry?
