No Police involved in street closure of Lawrence Av. festival?
Went to the Lawrence ave. street festival last weekend and saw no police cars blocking the road or doing traffic control, just private security.
I know Police are usually involved in this, thankfully nothing went wrong but I'm assuming that there were no officers to spare due to Fifa or something? Is it normal?
Not able to get disclosure translated to English before trial?
Hi there,
Got a speeding ticket in Quebec and was sent the disclosure in French. I called the courthouse asking for an English translation and the person told me that when I arrive to the court house, the Judge (???) will translate it to English for me.
I don't know if this is some procedural thing where a judge needs to order the translation or if I have to show up to request a deferral for translation, or if the person actually meant that the Judge him or herself will line by line translate it to me.
Does this sound right? I tried to ask follow up questions but the guy just kept saying that.
Is it normal to get a Tesla with 95,000 miles on it?
I think this is the oldest rental car I have ever received from any company, point blank. Covered in scratches, dings and peeling interior material (but I'm sure when I return it they'll make sure to take a thousand pictures to try to pin something on me).
Is it common for the Teslas to be so old?
What is the best city to be in for July 4th?
I live in Toronto (2 hours north of Buffalo, go bills!) and want to drive down to the states to experience the 250th anniversary.
I know some cities go absolutely crazy when their sports teams make it to playoffs (NYC, philly), wondering if any north-east cities have the same energy for July 4th? I've driven all the way to florida before so I don't mind the 8 - 10 hour drive.
Eyeballing NYC, Chicago, or Philly/D.C, or maybe there's a hidden gem I haven't thought of?
Canadian-Chinese food in downtown Toronto?
I know there's sooo many great Chinese food options, but I just want sweet and sour chicken balls and some greasy fried rice.
Does Hertz have locations in Toronto?
Every single time I try to book a car at one of the two downtown locations, or Billy Bishop airport, it says vehicles aren't available. And ofcourse, they don't answer their phone.
Are these locations ghost locations? I don't mind renting with Enterprise but at this point the points I'm collecting with Enterprise I might aswell ditch Hertz.
Anyone know why they keep re-posting for YYZ?
I think this is the third consecutive posting?
What's it like working for TTC corporate / head office?
In a non-unionized role
How's it like working at LCBO's head office (non-union)?
How's it like working at LCBO's HQ in a non-union role? Benefits/culture? I see some positions have a 50-60k range from base to top salary, is pay like OPSEU in steps or AMAPCEO in percentages?
Anyone use virtual doctors to get a sick note for stress leave?
No family doctor & at the end of my wits here, thinking of paying for one of those virtual MD for a sick note for stress leave (maple, etc) before I decide to just put in my 2 weeks from just how toxic my workplace is.
Any experience with using these services? Does the employer push back on them?
Also how does it work if you need several weeks off? For people who do have family doctors, does your family doctor write you a note every month or give you a bunch of weeks in advance?
Do people who live in the GTA actually enjoy living there?
I've lived in the actual city of Toronto my entire life and I absolutely adore it, and obviously the rural folk who have farms and want a quiet life and ride their ATVs and hunt love it for that reason, but I'm specifically asking about people who live in these bedroom communities like Brampton, Mississauga, etc.
It just seems like it's the worst of both worlds? You live in this cookie cutter neighbourhood that you've paid $1m to live in, commuting by car 30-50 minutes a day to work?
Are you happy? Do you enjoy living there? Why did you choose to live in these cities?
Even going further to Oshawa.. It just seems like the majority of southern Ontario seems incredibly mediocre? Driving through just feels like I'm watching a documentary about some depressing eastern european country post USSR collapse.
30+ person lineup... infront of a foodbank.
I went out for a drive this morning and saw about 30 people on the sidewalk in front of a storefront thinking it was some new trendy restaurant or summer sale, took a closer look and it was for a foodbank.
I keep hearing these statistics about increased foodbank usage and never really understood until seeing that line of people. I'm sure they felt embarassed as all hell waiting in line in front of thousands of people driving and walking by.
What the hell can the average person do about this? It feels like things are getting worse and worse and it's so defeating.
Tonight's table talk / bargaining update
Tuned in to tonight's table talk / bargaining and the organizers brought up an interesting point on EES bargaining.
In 2015 members voted very highly in favour for a strike (~90%) and were ready to strike however Essential Bargaining needed to be done beforehand to determine which roles are too essential to strike.
The employer delayed the process and despite a high strike vote kept stringing the union along. Eventually, the OPS offered the members a contract that included 0% raises and removed severance and the members voted to take it, likely because the energy fizzled out. It's not the bargaining team that decides what we get, it's the entire union that votes for it.
It appears that the employer is trying to use the same tactic, since the employer only gave the union the requested documents to start EES in July of 2025. It seems like the team is trying to hope to flip the process around and get EES done first instead of 11 years ago when it was done last.
Why does anyone even rent with Hertz anymore?
I travel for work and usually rent with Enterprise but I've had to rent with Hertz the last two times and the customer service at the counter and over the phone was just atrocious.
Why does Hilton add fees towards the end of booking?
Plenty of cities charge a municipal tourist tax for hotels which is perfectly fine, however every time I book at the Hilton these fees aren't added until I get the bill on the last day and it's included. I always have to argue with the front desk about the extra 10-30$ in fees they've just decided not to tell me about and they end up removing them or crediting them from my invoice because the fees didn't show up when I booked the room.
This has happened 3 times before I noticed it's consistent occurence, I'm going to avoid hilton from now on.
It really seems like Hertz in Toronto doesn't actually have any interest in running a business
I got a new job in Toronto a few months ago that requires me picking up a rental car several times a month and being right in Toronto I have the option of Enterprise or Hertz.
I've found that Hertz has worse hours, worse vehicle availability, is more expensive, and poor customer service, both over the phone and in person.
I rented a car once and the sales person signed me up for pre-paid fuel without telling me. I didn't realize until I saw the paperwork after. I checked the reviews and there are plenty of reviews saying the same thing.
Because I have to do lots of last minute pick ups I try to call the rental place and see if they have any availability before making the trek over there, and I have never had a Hertz location pick up my call. When I tried to call in order to quote a price to change my drop-off location, I got transferred several times because instead of transferring me to a Canadian hertz agent they kept sending me to other American ones. Once I got a hold of someone who could access the Canadian system, they told me I was not allowed to drop off at another location, which given my work, was a large pain in the ass.
I really can't wrap my head around how Hertz stays in business in Toronto. So far I've spent about $3,000 in rentals at Enterprise and have decided to not even bother with Hertz for vehicles. I've instructed the new hires on their first week to create Enterprise accounts and use them instead. Tens of thousands of dollars monthly diverted from Hertz to Enterprise.
If you owned a black puma backpack, it's in the possession of a lovely gentleman who ate all of your prescription pills and rummaged through your bag.
Witnessed a guy running with a black bag down Queen St W. stop right infront of me and rummage through it crouched on the ground a-la dobby style. Proceeded to throw the clothes around, grab three (may have been more?) prescription bottles, open them up and ingest them all and throw the empty bottles onto the road. There was a teal bottle on the side of the backpack, clothing, and I think I saw a teal/blue stick of deodorant.
He then turned around and screamed at me before getting into the street car.
Just an FYI if you had any hopes of getting your bag back... maybe make an appt to get a refill.
Couldn't make it for the first Toronto FEAST assessments, do I have to re-apply for the new posting?
I was offered a block of dates for the FEAST assessments in Toronto during the last hiring process but I couldn't attend any and selected the option that said I was unable to attend those ones.
How do I let NavCanada know that I wish to attend FEAST for this round of hiring? Is it automatic?
