Meta ads for dental? Croak of nonsense or worth it?

My boss got an idea to run dental ads for the dental clinic. I honestly think it’s gonna be a waste of money, because the person who suggested the idea runs a tat shop where I feel set work portfolio works well, and has a large social following (because, again it’s art).

I assume this is gonna be a money pit, but I can’t tell if I’m in the wrong (Google ads did nothing for dental in the past).

Yes or no?

My boss stopped micro managing me, why?

I am relieved, and curious if this has happened to anyone else.

I went on vacation for 2 weeks, pre-vacation my boss was treating me like dog shit. Avoiding me, barely speaking to me and only my co-worker.

When I came back, they didn’t seem to care as much. Months before though, my boss was micro-managing me like crazy. Demands that I have this done, making me do multiple tasks (in the middle of a task), rather than my co-worker. and running around like a chicken.

Then overloading my workload with other shit.

Since I’ve been back, she claimed I was getting on her nerves, but now, leaves me alone.

She barely speaks to me now, doesn’t overload me with tasks, and doesn’t micro-manage me. I’m left alone, and finally get to work hybrid.

Why the sudden switch? It’s been micro management since the end of last year and for months?

I did tell her I was burnt out, and mental health slipping (from the workload),but it’s finally stopped.

My friend starts hugging me, and telling me to shhh….

I don’t know why she’s been doing this lately, but there’s times where I’m overwhelmed, or upset.

Last night we were mildly having an argument (well, mainly on her end) and then I said something to her, that may have registered (I truly feel my ADHD is a turmoil and it’s been hard to regulate.

In the midst of it, she just starts giving me a hug, and then if I try attempting to talk, or continue arguing, I’m just being told to “shh” repeatedly until I relax.

I don’t know why she’s keeps doing this, but it does help. Does anyone else relate?

Am I entitled, or am I just merely stupid?

I need some direct advice from everyone who has directly worked in dental.

I’m having a real hard time right now (I feel glum) and getting chewed up by the cost of living. I work front desk at an extremely small practice, but I am not treated as only such. I’m at $65k a year.

E.g of what I do in my daily job:

* Up at 6 AM, in the office by 8:00 AM, sometimes 8:15 AM. My boss expects an early start from me, as I am expected to set up, rather than the DA. We open at 8:30 AM, and some patients will show up at 8, or demand to be seen at 8.

- Cleaning up all the garbage, so I’m expected to take out all the garbage, needles (on occasion), rather than ate DA. I am expected to mop the floors and vacuum them, basically I’m cleaning up the surgery daily.

- Sometimes I am expected to assist, as our DA goes home early (has a second job now), or will call in, so I’m running around doing front desk & assisting, and my boss makes me run and pickup the phone, boss doesn’t allow it to ring.

- E-mails, calls, bookings all handled by me.

- Having to push the reviews, I pushed my bosses business to over 250 5-star reviews, in less than 1 year.

- Tech issues, and equipment issues. I’m expected to fix anything that doesn’t work, there has been a time where I had to unscrew and open the chair for an e.g, and even install micro switches on a chair. My boss demands I fix x, y and z.

-Social media, I’m now expected to be posting on social media 4-5 days per week, and make content (design it, post it). Sometimes I take photos and edit them in Adobe as well (and I’m paying for it…)

- Working through our breaks constantly, I’m expected to constantly talk to the patients, and make them feel welcomed, my entire life is this job, so it sucks when we work through the breaks (or I need to swap with the DA) as our boss will either take our entire break (selfishly), and sending us out 1 at a time, later.

- My boss calling me negative, because I’m expected to do an entire recall system, that was decided to be built via AI. When I already did our dental programs recall system (I recalled over 200 people).

- I get nitpicked for any gap in the schedule, boss also not giving us proper breaks, telling me to move pts forward, ON day if someone cancels.

- Sometimes while down staff, as we have 1 DA who likes to leave early, and I’m expected to assist, I get dumped having to clean up HER mess, and so forth, so there will be times where we finish at 6 PM/almost 7 (rare occasion) my boss leaves me to clean everything up, and refuses to wait with me and doesn’t help.

- I am on a 5 day work week, they are on 4, so 1 day of the week I have nothing to do, besides wait around for majority of my day, even though my hours go past 38 hours per week sometimes.

- I saved my boss $ in monthly expenses, fixing the supply ordering problem (previous staff over ordered), and screwed us, I’ll usually price match dental supplies as well.

- Editing the website, and doing website work since I’m tech savvy.

- Sales… I have convinced numerous of patients to go ahead with x, y and z procedures (Invisalign, veneers, whitening). I am also pressured to,

I can’t tell if I’m just being taken advantage of, or I’m being an entitled brat. This job is really upsetting me, and I don’t have much of a life anymore. I recently asked for a raise, as I’m gonna be forced to work two jobs, and I was denied. My boss suggested a commission pay instead, and if I sell Invisalign, etc (which I’ve down countless of times), I would be paid $50, etc or $100 and it is split with my co-worker.

I was beyond hurt when I heard that.

My boss also has begun pretty much ignoring me (I swear it is Stockholm syndrome) and is now starting to favourite my colleague.

I could be on my phone for 30 seconds (rarely) I am yelled at, but if my co worker is on her phone all day, my boss says nothing….

I also am terrible at assisting, and my boss always tells me off during procedures when I do not have the training like my colleague does (which is now a year working with boss).

Anyone else use the straightener everyday?

Every day I straighten my hair 5 days a week, just to look presentable (front desk), at my job. I don’t have the most flattering face (insecure about my nose), so I keep my hair down typically and straightened.

I have a b12 and iron deficiency. I have noticed my hair was extremely long and healthy last year, now it’s super thin (and Australia water being harsh), and dry.

I will have a WFH starting Friday so I can at least not wash it for 3 days / and avoid styling, but I’m getting really upset and insecure abour my hair.

Any tips on how to fix it?

My boss wants to give my co-worker a raise, all while recently declining mine and stating I should split commission with my co-worker. Any advice on what to do next?

Feeling really glum right now, and an idiot.

I’ve worked at this small dental practice for 1 yr and have always given it my best. Since day 1, my boss has been very harsh, constantly nitpicking, critiquing minor mistakes, especially if it’s not done my bosses particular way.

Although my job title is a receptionist, I’m expected to perform multiple roles, e.g:

- Cleaning the entire practice, including bathrooms, and disposing and taking out the garbage, mopping the floors & vacuuming them. Stepping on the garbage (boss is cheap), etc. Cleaning my co-workers kitchen mess too which she trashes constantly.

- Promoting the business. Designed a system which led to a 300 5-star review increase (boss gained 300 reviews in 1 year because of me and pushing them).

- Organising the entire practice during boss’s vacation. I had to physically remove shelving cabinets, sell equipment, and re-did everything. It took me 3 weeks by myself.

- Demanded to fix equipment. E.g when the chairs stop working (suctions) guess who’s been the problem solver and fixed it? When the computers aren’t working, guess who fixes it? There has been a time where I had to open up a chair and re-wire it.… I got it working 50%, but I have fixed numerous of other dental appliances.

- Generating sales, I have brought pts to her that locked in Invisalign (close to $8,000) per. I have convinced many patients (since she pushes me) to get whitening, retainers, etc…

- Stupid social media. I have to make graphics daily, make IG posts, now Tik Tok’s and I’m expected to be posting every single day. I am stuck doing this on top of my current workload (phone ringing, emails, etc).

- Having to assist my boss time to time, and then having to race to the front desk in the middle of assisting cause my boss doesn’t allow for the phones to just ring and callback.

- Book keeping (mild), receipts date, and labelled, $ reporting and making sure it is all correct for her cocky accountant.

- Reducing supply costs & fixing issues previous admin had done, so I have significantly reduced my bosses monthly expenses.

Then expected to arrive @ 8 AM, for 8:30 AM opening, to set up for my co-worker the DA. I often get stuck staying till 6, they leave me with everything to clean, and sterilize and sometimes I have to do dual jobs, as my co-worker leaves early.

Asked for a pay $ due to my load, my boss denied it, saying the business is losing money and cannot afford it (my boss wants to hire a DH, which is $60/hr), and instead offered commission so if I sell (which I’ve been doing), I’m expected to split my commission with my co-worker since they do the scanning… Yet I’m the reason for the sale… My boss also wants to increase my co-workers pay ($1 below me).

I’m also being isolated out, they talk all the time now, co-worker is on phone, and boss says nothing, if I’m on my phone for 30 sec my boss tells me off.

I feel burnt out. I work the 5 days, they work only 4. Since I’m denied the raise I need another second job so back to 6-7 days work week but I’m going crazy.

I can’t tell if I’m being unreasonable and I’m stupid, or if I’m fair? I would appreciate advice.

Girls what jobs are you doing that are paying past 50K-60K without a degree?

Having a real hard time right now with the cost of living, I am doing admin, but my role has basically expanded to office management, and despite growing a business, and benefitting a boss, various ways (bringing more sales), I’ve been denied a raise.

I’m basically the content creator, social media marketer, graphic designer, sales, cleaning lady (empty the garbage, clean the office), I’m the IT, sterilization and then sometimes the tradesperson when something had gone wrong. Then you got the admin work, and then having to do favours for wealthy individuals solely cause my boss likes them.

It’s such a small business as well, that I’m getting burnt out doing many roles, and nitpicked daily and fussed about the demands. I have no life for hobbies (time), or time to even make friends, and most people who come in are in their 50s.

Boss can pay five figures for private schools, luxury cars, and a boat but, nope, can’t afford to give me a raise, all while expecting me to further and benefit her business, all while bragging I guess Sydney style.

I don’t have a degree, and I feel really behind, and bummed.

Please help give me ideas, on what I can do, my sister works in hospitality and in less than 5 months already is making more than me with less responsibility and a wage increase.

Update to: “Is receptionist suppose to be this hard, or am I entitled?”

Update from the last post, “is reception suppose to be this hard: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/1tvp5cs/comment/opz1eg9/?context=1&screen_view_count=2“

I asked my boss for a raise, as I’m struggling and am shoehorned into a practice manager.

My boss denied the raise, saying they cannot afford it (yet, they will be hiring a hygienist, which is double the $ than me).

They told me though, any time I make a sale (as, I gave wrapped up numerous of sales at the office) I would get $50, etc or some sort of minor compensation amount per sale.

That said, I would have to split that amount with my colleague, so it would be $25, etc, despite my colleague not doing the sales aspect and it’s mainly me.

I’m trying not to have a breakdown laugh.

How much revenue does a hygienist actually BRING in terms of increase to a dentist practice?

My one dentist does everything, cleans and so forth, they want to hire a hygienist.

I have asked for a wage increase, which they denied, despite me doing a practice manager role (way too much, IT, fixing chairs, front desk, sometimes assisting, cleaning lady, sales, content creation, social media marketing, keeping supply costs low, and I have grown the business with hundreds of reviews). etc.

I am not even close to practice manager pay, and I’m fully burnt out to the point where it’s affecting my mental health.

I’m curious would hiring a hygienist which is the plan (and my boss aims to pay with no hesitation, despite saying ‘can’t afford my increase‘), help increase our revenue?

im not gonna lie majority of my dentist bosses patients are cleans and they usually come for only my boss so that’s why I’m wary that the revenue won’t be increased but if it does actually benefit the practice it kinda gives me hope for an increase unless she’s just lying cause she likes underpaying me

I kissed my co worker on the top of the head today and now I can’t stop thinking how I probably made her uncomfy ???

2 of my co-workers have said this to me now, a co-worker while walking a dog I was pet sitting, said “we look like a lesbian couple.” none of us are lesbians.

Now, another co-worker of mine while we were walking I just put my arm behind her and walked with my arm behind her shoulder and hugging her as we walked, she didn’t pull away or anything, and laughed and said ”people are gonna think we’re lesbians”

I’m like ? No? Commonly people think we’re related, ngl. and they laughed

I can’t stop thinking this but now I’m wary i made her uncomfortable? she hugged me at the end but like as a neurodivergent person i can’t stop thinking now 2 hours later

we are all girls

Is reception suppose to be this hard or am I entitled?

I work in dental, very small practice. We use to have 2 other staff members, one who quit as she was over qualified (her school degree didn’t apply in this country, she was a dentist.) The second being another staff member who hated our boss, to the point where it was affecting the business. And then we have our long term dentist, who quit, who also hate my boss.

When I first started this job, I was thrown into it, knowing nothing it was chaos. I would get nitpicked and blamed, even if the schedule was empty, despite only being there not even a month.

Fast forward to now, I’m stuck doing everything:

- I wake up at 6 AM, because I need to be on time, we ”open” at 8:30 AM, but I am expected to be there by at least 7:50-8. And expected to “set up” for the dental assistant (doing her job).

- I am basically the cleaning lady, because she won’t hire one. I’m expected to throw out the used needles (in the sealed hazard tub), vacuum the floors, sometimes also doing the assistant’s job with the sterilization. My co-worker is also lazy, and messy so I’m expected to clean up her dishes or the mess she makes in the kitchen. I also have to clean the bathroom, take the garbage out, etc. ”Cleaners are too expensive.”

- As typical reception, I’m expected to answer the phones, she doesn’t have caller ID on the phones, so she makes me (if I’m in the middle of assisting her), run and answer the phones. It actually exhausting. I’ve been told off by patients for no reason, yet they be nice to her, probs cause I’m nothing but a receptionist.

- I am now being made to handle the social media, so every day I need to make content, post content, etc. I also was expected to make flyers for other businesses etc.

- Sales aspect, a lot of the times I’m expected to push her reviews & “sell” patients. I have pushed her reviews over 100, and have helped convinced pts to get things they were not considering on, e.g retainers, braces, etc.

- Any minor mistake she breaths down my neck, and tells me off on why I didn’t do it, or say I’m not doing my job correctly cause I didn’t text someone “good morning” when responding to them (which the pt didn’t care, and was happy).

- Sometimes I do the assistants job, as in the assistant leaves early (even if I do a 45-50 hour week), so I have to do both jobs, same day. I do not get this time back, nor compensated.

- The rest of it is booking keeping, talking to the labs, getting everything on time, writing letters for patients (and her friends, or insurance), sometimes she tries to make me do another dentist specialists job and make ME arrange the appointment for them. And the specialists are always baffled.

— I rarely get my breaks, and when I do she either cuts them short or repeats when I’m coming back from break, yet lets my co-worker sit for over an hour. let’s my co worker sit on her phone too not me.

- Usually I get home at 6 pm as well (get stuck going over hours). They are on a 4 day work week, I’m stuck at 5. Even when it is dead at the end of the week and there is no dentist or DA in.

- My boss also has begun ignoring me so I’m obviously no longer liked, so she only talks to my DA, she only communicates with me via work, or tells my DA to tell me something.

- Sometimes if something breaks, I’m expected to fix it, e.g having to re-wire a dental chair.

I’m a loser and I’m struggling. Does it get better in life? What job recommendations do you have? And how did you improve your quality of life?

Feel free to rib in at me, because at this point I’m at rock bottom.

I work in the Eastern Suburbs (Sydney), to give you an idea. Standard 9 to 5, but my co-workers get a 4 day work week.

Every day, I walk in to work, and even though we aren’t officially open, (30-45 mins I’ll be early), I’m demanded to do x, y and z.

I’m stuck seeing the same people daily, and don’t have much a life (wake up at 5-6 AM), there by 7, and leave 6 PM. Sometimes my hours go over, I’m not compensated, nor do I get the extra day off (“time back”), small business, doing whatever they feel.

I am also overloaded with tasks, and stuck having to do my co-workers tasks.

My boss only talks to me about work, nitpicks me and avoids me. My co-worker is spoken to all the time.

Other than that, I’m stuck listening to rich kids demand and whine that their dad got them $7,000 items, which they “didn’t want” and their $50,000 private schools, and bragging about how they would never fly economy (laughing).

Other than my job being sad. And being a loser, majority of my income goes to rent, and groceries obviously have gone up, so I find myself going to bed hungry. All I do is work, my entire life is work and being sort of used.

I feel lost, and because I don’t have a degree, and I feel stupid thanks to ADHD, I don’t know how to get out of the hole I am in. If I work 6-7 days a week the finances is slightly better but, I’m exhausted.

I don’t come from wealth, and again, quite stupid so, I don’t know how I can change my life for further improvement.

TLDR:

* How did you improve your quality of life?

* What job recommendations for someone without a degree? I have ADHD so I self-sabotage myself a lot because my mind repeats that I’m too stupid, and I struggle cause of it.

* For those who don’t have a degree, what job do you do, and how much does it pay?

* Any tips?
