Then proceeded to ask me to explain the entire research field, introduce new terminology, reorganize the framework, and answer questions that did not exist before the review.

At this point, I am convinced Reviewer 2 does not reject papers.

They simply assign Paper 2.

Reviewer 1 gave me a decision.
Reviewer 2 gave me a new PhD topic.

No hate, though. The comments may genuinely improve the manuscript. But this contrast is peak academia.
