Mac appreciation thread!

Played to perfection by Charles Robinson, Mac is the straight foil to the others' individual idiosyncrasies while also having his own sense of humor. Plus, his sartorial taste is beyond reproach ❤️.

Plus, he and Quon Li are a fantastic double act, with each offering much heart and humanity to balance the antics, zany, straightforward, multifaceted, and/or otherwise.

Remove Mac and the show wouldn't meld so well. Actually, that's true for any character but it's hardest to remove the galvanizing foil.

Wrong answers only, what's Christine thinking?

"Why can't I be on the Enterprise with Dr Crusher instead? At least I'd blend in with this outfit there!"

Don't mess with Roz

Season 7 definitely feels refreshing and bolder in sight gags, this episode started with a real bang about Roz discussing being at target practice to Mac, who first thought she needed more practice. Nope, that's just her warning shot 😂

Why didn't Harry write more for the show?

True, always leave the audience wanting more but all of his penned and co-penned episodes (that I've seen so far) are phenomenonally funny ❤️

Did the show jump the shark for you, or even un-jump?

So I've finished season 6 and have noted the silliness getting ramped up this season. Still funny, but something feels a bit off. The season finale with a redo of getting through a couple hundred cases was hit-or-miss. I recall liking season 7 that I'll be starting shortly, but 8 and 9 were totally off the rails.

Did the show ever jump the shark for you and, if so, did it feel like episode quality returned after the jump moment?

The day Major Kira Met Maltz

I forgot how funny season six could be, but then I got to this episode. Really great acting by two in this, but Nana's got the better sartorial style, even if it's florid! 😁

Is it possible to get ghsv1 and ohsv1 from the same encounter?

When my future-ex and I did it the first time, we both said we were clean. A few months later, I had an outbreak confirmed as ghsv1. But I never had an outbreak on my mouth. But we'd kissed, several times. Since then and it's been over a decade, I still haven't yet had any blisters on my mouth, and haven't had blisters "down there" since 10 years ago. Supposedly, "down there" is more susceptible so there is a chance I wasn't infected on multiple locations?

Occasionally my lips tingle, but "down there" doesn't at the same time ("down there" tingling is rare but has happened maybe once a year). I do have numerous allergies, B12 deficiency, and anxiety so those might be why I feel that tingling.

Season 6 starts with a bang

And not because Dan accidentally aims the flare gun and brings down what otherwise would have been his way out!

The seaaon one entry where Dan is dating a coworker and Harry salivates over a Mel Torme ticket

Note, never watch this show while eating because you might choke while laughing, but while later seasons hit the stratosphere, season 1 is not without its style, charm, or laughter-inducing greats, and I mean loud guffaws and not cutesie chuckles. It's refreshing to see how the group started out and, yeah, Lana and Liz are pretty solid too - even if it's Christine and Roz that are the cherries on top.

The Bake-Off

Spoilers:

Season 3 definitely brought in "the snort", but Chrissy remained a character and not quite caricaturized just yet, which is what makes the "Chrissy, get rid of the pie" scene that followed that much more hysterical. Suzanne just nails the performance, and the plot twist with the old Vaudville trope of pie-flinging in one scene also added more to the fun and it looked like the actors were enjoying the moment too. What say you, is this a sweeps week-worthy entry or a stinker or something in the middle?

Jenilee Harrison was perfectly cast and her interview on the season 5 disc set is a great watch (along with the other documentary "Of Farce and Censors"). Using klutziness was brilliant and she snd John had excellent screen chemistry. Sadly, she too would leave in season 6 as Teri took over along with the show's more drama-infused turn, but her time was definitely underrated. What say you?
