How does audio even work?

I'm a returning player and i've always absolutely despised the audio. But it feels so much worse now and i can't quite figure out why. I could at least sometimes use the audio to figure out where people were, now it's like they're coming from a whole other direction. It's really turning me off from coming back. Not fun in dying or getting no kills.

So all i really wanna know is how do people actually use the audio and know where enemies are? Like its easy to tell w general direction if we're in the same room, but i can't tell where they are specifically and when it gets through a room or so apart? Impossible

In lore, how do legendary martial warrior fare against legendary mages? Are they comparable?

Just wondering really. I know there have been many legendary swordsman and such but do they ever fare well against equally famed mages?

Do signs do anything in lore?

Like obviously in gameplay we all know about the atronach (the goat). But like, in the actual world barring any gameplay features, do signs have any major effects like these?

I think my quest npc is either bugged to not spawn or spawned somewhere i cant reach

I took a quest for the mages guild to kill a loose imp in a place called fortress of mastersmith. Pretty simple yeah? Except i've explored everywhere i can find in this dungeon and nothing. I've filed the dungeons, frankly, unreasonably enormous map out and i cannot find it. I've found lots and lots of orcs, even a werewolf, no imp. I wasn't sure if maybe it could be a mod doing it but idk how any of them could.

Is there some like, way i can find quest enemies? My least favorite part of this game is how much it wastes my time with stuff like this.

Something wrong with my openmw

So today i've logged into openmw to play and suddenly it's absolute ass. It's freezing every 30 seconds, it's crashing, etc. it's been functioning perfectly fine the past few days, my mods haven't been acting up before. I was also given a pop up after a crash, can't remember exactly what it said and i don't have a screenshot but it was something along the lines of "openmw has crashed it shouldn't do that, please select abort to terminate it and create an error report" or smth like that.

Cannot figure out whats wrong or why it just suddenly happened today. I haven't installed any new mods today or anything.

Dark beotherhood assassin not spawning in?

Just ascended to level 7 and no matter how much i rest no dark brotherhood guy is spawning to attack me. This has actually been an issue for the past few levels. No matter how much rest i couldn't get them to spawn, at level 5 i got one to spawn, killed him, and another never came. I haven't done any of the questline to get them to stop either.

Am i just super unlucky? Is there a hard limit to the number that can spawn? Or does the chance like, lessen as you level? I cannot find a dingle answer via google

Unarmored for argonians?

Decided to give morrowind a go after not playing it for a long time. Never did finish or even get very far. I'm wanting to make an argonian that uses spears and i remember that they cannot wear shoes or helmets. But they also have medium armor as a skill.

Now my question is, could one take medium armor and unarmored as skills and have them both come into effect? Like will unarmored still affect my defense when i'm not using shoes or a helmet and medium still help me when i got everything else? Or should i ditch unarmored all together?

Playing on openmw if that changed anything

Dark krakens heraldry and lore headcanons discussion post

As my resident "home" chapter, i like seeing different heraldry and colors for the krakens that others have. And making my own lore for it. Now i've seen a lot of heraldry images, and whole sheets of drawings for it so i wanted to make this post as a place to come back to whenever i wanna see other people's heraldry or lore ideas for the krakens! Ties, colors, characters, etc.

So yeah feel free to share. I'll do some of mine:

In SM2 i use orange to signify fire support for my heavy and sniper, blue signifies veterancy for my tactical, and i'm dipping my toes into the idea of purple maybe being symbolic of medical support or even religious roles like chaplain or apothecary. When it comes to command colors i've struggled on deciding to be honest, i like red but don't know what it would signify for rank.

Also when it comes to lens colors i like the idea that the purple is obviously their signature battle brother, but if their helmet changes the lens can change to be indicative of something on Naktis. Like a light blue to signify the ocean, orange can be symbolic of coral, etc. Now this is a pretty out there lore headcanon, but i've always liked to think the default purple is actually symbolic too, and in that headcanon i've always said that on Naktis lies one ancient, and enormous leviathan. Biggest and deadliest of them all. The one eye of the beast is purple, and that's where they get the color from. Maybe a bit silly but i like the idea, the creature should have a name but i haven't thought that far.

Whats actually the point of skill boosting armor most of the time?

A lot of armor in new vegas has skill boosts attached to it. But to be frank i rarely ever see a point in using it for the skill buffs. Like if imm using the elite riot gear on a non explosives build then there's no point in +5 explosives. If i'm using it ON an explosives build then I'm already at 100 anyway. Same goes for any stealth suit for a stealth build.

It's only really just occurred to me now because i'm doing a stealth build and i was reminded how shitty stealth armor in new vegas is (definitely one of the dumbest choices of design in the game imo)

Enemies not taking damage from explosives sometimes?

So i'm running a bomber kinda build with explosives and i'm finding that some enemies sometimes don't take any damage from my explosives. The culprits so far are: big horners, bloatflies, cazadors, and mantis. Luckily it hasn't happened against any humans or deathclaws. At least not to my knowledge.

When my companion attacks them after i tried shooting them it shows their health bear completely gone, but a quick check in vats shows that it's full. Whats up with that?

Question about ballistic fists and displacer gloves

So this isn't a game question, its actually a world question. First of all why don't we see more people use them? It's really only the legion. Second of all, do they have to be reloaded in lore?

Can't enjoy fallout 2 for some reason

After restarting my fallout 2 run with a better perspective and a better build, a melee build this time since i hadn't done one in fo1 amd i wanted to steamroll the temple of trials, i still find myself having a miserable time.

I loved fallout 1, it was unfortunately pretty short but it was a well made experience and it felt very well balanced for the most part. But i just can't seem to get into fallout 2. I despise the early game to no end, the way that skills cap at 300 means that individual skill points count for less than they did in fo1, and that alone makes the early game feel bad. Another thing that makes the game unfun for me is that everything pertaining to enemies in fallout 2 is just MORE. There are so many enemies at once and they have such high stats. It almost makes me feel more required to bring companions along when in fo1 i was forced to mostly neglect using them...because they all died in 2 minutes due to being morons. Katja lasted the longest. A lot of my other complaints are more minor peeves, annoyances, or inconveniences that just sorta build up when you encounter enough of them. Like those pickpocketing brats in the hub, or enemies running away rendering them seemingly impossible to catch for a melee build (which ig was in fo1 tbf)

Maybe i just went in expecting something from the game that it never had, from the massive praise it was getting from literally everyone i expected this to be just a complete upgrade of fo1. Better in every conceivable way. I mean its gameplay is largely the exact same, but it just has all these other things piled on top of it. And this is more of a personal thing but i feel like fo1 just had a much better atmosphere. Fo1 has the superior "wasteland" feel that frankly i haven't gotten in any other fallout game.

I'll definitely play fo1 again sometime but for now i think i'm skipping over 2. I'm honestly kinda bummed i won't get to experience such classic fo2 things like becoming a pornstar or getting married. And yeah i'm prepared for the legion of fo2 fanboys to throw shade my way.

Fallout 2 so far

After beating fallout 1 and having an extraordinary time (definitely will play again) i decided to play fo2. I specced heavily for a energy weapons build since i did big guns in fo1. And while i loved fo1 i'm having a notably worse time in fo2. After slugging through the godawful tutorial since i was forced to used melee i was finally out, found my first gun pretty fast (fo1 taught me to raid and pillage literally every bookshelf), my accuracy is abysmal since i didn't tag small guns (which i guess i should've but i really wanted speech and barter). And my biggest regret so far was not taking fast shot. Idk what i was thinking, fast shot was so insane in fo1 and aiming shots seems utterly and entirely pointless. My chance to hit parts is so low AND it costs 1 extra AP? Why even bother?

Currently i'm killing all the slavers in order to free Vic. My brought over knowledge from fo1, and gold i got from selling gecko pelts i stole from houses and got for skinning geckos allowed me to net myself a 10mm smg and some leather armor to help. And just one hit of psycho. I'm having a substantially better time than i was at the start, i'm happy to report (though i still regret not taking fast shot) however i got questions.

-Are the accuracy chances skewed or somehow different in this game? I feel like i'm missing a lot more than i did in the early game of fo1. Though my small guns is only at like 50. But i don't remember having such a heavy investment in it in the first game.

-whats the point of aiming shots instead of having fast shot?

-why are these slavers running away when they're nearly at full hp? It's making the experience pretty dang unfun if i have to chase them around.

Edit: further question. How do i speed up combat? Enemies move so slow and have so much hp and there's so many of them. Combat in this game takes FOREVER compared to 1. Ik we're supposed to glaze the old games here but sitting for 3 mins between my turn in fo2 isn't as fun as it is in dnd

Ammo troubles

Nearing the end of my first fallout 1 playthrough as a heavy weapons build and while its definitely been a fun experience so far (albeit frustrating with a lot of mechanics requiring me me to figure out on my own) one thing that frustrating me a lot right now is that it seems impossible for me to progress when the ammo for my main weapon type is basically impossible to find. Like seriously if i was warned before hand that heavy weapons build were so bad i would've gone energy weapons instead.

90% of the super mutants aren't even using miniguns or god forbid rocket launchers, vendors don't seem to restock, and when i find super mutants using miniguns they usually run out of ammo before i kill them.

The issue is seriously taking me out if the experience, and if i run out of ammo for my minigun, can't find any, and have to restart then i might just drop the game because that'd be lame. But its been fun so far and i don't want this to ruin my experience so how do i get a stockpile of ammo for my minigun?

Why do enemies take multiple turns before i get back to mine

So i'm trying to lill decker and his goons with the sheriff but i'm noticing that decker goes first, then me, then the enemies begin going. Problem here is that someone will go, then someone else, then it'll go BACK to someone who already went, then back to SOMEONE ELSE who already went. They also have a TON more action points than me for some reason (i have 10 agi) but hey i can dela with that, but not with them taking multiple turns.

Wtf is this? This is getting pretty dang frustrating. I tried looking online but all i see is people explaining that action points determine how many times you can attack per turn. But is it someone's turn again after they just went?

Ik sequence exists but don't know what it does. But my perception is at like 7 so mine should be very good.

Cursor stuttering in fo1?

First time really starting a run in fo1. Booted up the game and my cursor is very stuttery for some reason. Persists through main menu and character creation. Anyone know why?

Edit: seems to mostly happen after disabling windowed

Is melee viable or usable on very hard?

I'm doing my very first very hard hardcore run on new vegas (currently in the divide) and i'm having a blast. Doing a cowboy build and while i understand that i'm no melee build man my blood nap is really just tickling enemies even at 100 melee and 9 strength, even in vats too. Now my DT is decent enough, i'm sitting at like 31, but i'm still dying pretty dang fast in vats and absurdly fast out of it. Lets not even mention deathclaws one shotting when i have upwards of 420 hp.

So how does someone even play melee/unarmed in new vegas on very hard? Whats the point of taking high DT armor as a melee build if you'll die in 3 hits anyway? And how on earth do you deal with deathclaws with melee?

Its a lot of the same things that made me not bother playing with an unarmed or melee build in fo3, if i can't deal with every enemy i don't see the point. And while my cowboy build melts everything with the medicine stick and hollow points, i worry that my melee run is gonna be significantly less fun when i have to deal with the high damage enemies on very hard.
