I (20F) am 99.99% sure my grandmother (82F at the moment) has OCD and am also 90% sure I inherited it. It’s ruining my life.

I talked about this previously on a different subreddit post about whether I should go to therapy -decided I would go when I get a job and a stable salary- but I wanted to vent some more so here it goes.

I always knew something was wrong with my grandmother. From the moment she moved in with me and my mother -about two seconds after my parents separated- and frankly I never really liked her, but I hadn’t hated her back then at the age of 8 either.

Though, in time, she made me hate her. She has OCD, I’m sure of it -though I do not have the authority to give an official diagnosis- and her main thing is tidiness.

She both obsessively and compulsively wants the house to always be picture perfect and tidy as if the elder, most revered members of the family are coming to dinner that day, but she wants it that way, every day.

For this reason ever since she moved into the house when I was 7-8 upon my parent’s divorce she hasn’t left our house (she’s a widow, too) and I haven’t had a medicum of privacy. She would go into my room and shift items around, put things in places I didn’t intend them to be because she deemed it “right” that way. She’d throw away stuff without asking me if she decided it was trash, and she’d pester me about everything all the time. And this isn’t just me being a lousy teenager who doesn’t wanna clean up their room, she would even rearrange the books on my bookcases because it bothered her that they were all had different heights and they looked “ugly and messy” that way.

I could go on all day talking about other examples. (I will talk about a little experiment I did to confirm to myself that she has OCD later in the post)

My mother (49F at the moment) allowed this, because since her father had died when she was 12, she’d grown up with that insufferable woman, and is used to it. She rarely ever took my side, and even when my grandmother calls her very demeaning names and insults for not keeping her house “the way it should” (examples of this are such small things like leaving the dishes at the sink for longer than 20 minutes [and then she does them herself and complains about being “our maid” even though nobody asked her to do the dishes, and her eye sight is so sh*t, she can’t even see all the remains on them, and often places the still dirty dishes next to the clean ones, it’s disgusting and no, she cannot stop it]), my mother doesn’t fight back.

And as I grew older, the lack of privacy was killing me so I started locking my door when I went out, or even if I left the room for a while, but that only worked for about two months, wanna know why?

Because after my uncle (51M) got married and moved out of her house on the other side of the city, she decided to sell it rather than just letting it be there, empty (because she lives with us even though she has her own money, own house, and enough physical strength to take care of herself). She sold it, and bought a new flat in the same apartment complex as our house, right from the building next door, which did have a couple upsides. Like now, when we fight, if I irritate her enough, she just goes to stay there, and returns the next day, giving me at least a couple hours of peace.

Oh, the downsides, well, guess what?

Since all four buildings were made by the same company, even though the front doors were all different obviously, the doors inside each flat, unless replaced later, were the exact same, and had the exact same keys.

She could unlock my door with the key she got from the corresponding room in her flat. So, I had to get the parts and install a lock -the kind typically used for locking outside doors like garden gates- myself, and she lost it.

She b*tched and moaned about it for almost the entire year, up until I went to college and had to leave it unlocked (my mother made me) and now whenever I return, it’s like the room isn’t mine. Nothing is where I left it.

And I refused to go to therapy for years because I wasn’t the problem, that f-cking witch was and it can’t be solved by anything other than her death (which I will welcome with joy when it happens) since there’s no other way to make her leave, so why would I need to go? Therapy wasn’t going to make her disappear, which was the only way I could be at peace. Which I now finally am since I’m studying at a city 370 miles away from her.

But, the problems in my life caused by her didn’t stop when I went to college because around the same time I graduated high school and got into the college I’m at now, I realized I had the same thing she had, only my thing didn’t affect people’s lives in a negative -and insufferable- way. Or at least I thought.

I realized around that time that I cling to people I care about -usually close friends, one time someone I loved dearly- so badly that it often drove them away. I was obsessed with my friends. Whenever I deemed someone “I can trust and be sincere with” my brain went into “do not lose them at all costs” mode. I bought them gifts all the time and I wanted to hang out all the time, dedicating all my free time to them and I felt jealous when they hanged out with other people. It used to be worse as a teenager and subsided somewhat since then but is still an issue I’m trying to work on.

Because most often what I did didn’t help me keep them, it bothered them and they left. I have her cursed genes to thank for it.

Oh, and the experiment:

You know how if you made a mess in the house, especially if it was intentional, any responsible and sane adult would tell you to get up and clean it up? Well, one weekend when my mother was away but my grandmother wouldn’t leave me alone, to test my theory, I ate my lunch in one of the back rooms of the house and then locked the dirty dishes there. [Nothing that would mold or smell gross, but still dirty dishes] And waited to see her reaction.

She begged me to open the door so SHE could wash them. No “Pick up your slack young lady!” or “I will tell your mother about this.” She just straight up begged. I refused. She got mad but gave up on trying to convince me and tried all the others keys in the house and brought even more from her house to try and open it. Thankfully even the one she brought from her new flat didn’t work and I kept those dishes there for about 32 hours. She kept begging and complaining and sulking about it.

Never once told me to go to Hell or tried to punish me like a nor al adult would.

I could give you other examples of events similar to this, but the point is, she has it, and I think I got it too, and it’s not fair I have to deal with this.

I never ever wanted kids in the first place but knowing this has only made my decision to never ever have one stronger. I am not passing on this curse.

How to choose a razor blade for shaving body hair?

How to choose a razor blade for shaving body hair?

Up till now I've either gotten waxed or when it was an emergency, used the cream I use for private parts. Now I want to try a razor for the first time but there are so many options!

For example, some have 3 blades and some have 5. Some are scented for some reason and some aren't. Some have rubber plastic on both sides and some don't.

How do I know which is better?

My cousin (15F) is being a b*tch to her mother -my aunt- (52F) and I don’t know how to help?

My cousin (15F) is being a b*tch to her mother -my aunt- (52F) and I don’t know how to help?

My cousin, I’ll call her Beth (15F) had anorexia for about 2 years due to bullying at school, but my maternal aunt (52F) I’ll call her Sera noticed it very early on and was able to get her to see multiple professionals that helped her through it, and Beth has been out of the woods for about a year now. Very far from the woods in fact. It’s no longer an issue besides her having stopped eating some specific things completely.

I (20F) understand that that must’ve been extremely hard for someone her age to go through, but it doesn’t excuse her behaviour.

She is currently trying to get her way with anything and everything she wants and most often manages to get her way. I think it started from when she had anorexia still and my aunt would do all that she can to keep Beth’s spirits up so she wouldn’t regress. Except now, she knows exactly what language to use and what to do and what not to do to push my aunt’s buttons just right to get her way.

This is a problem mostly due to how expensive her “tastes” are. Aka. she has brand obsession.

My aunt is a teacher and she’s divorced. Beth’s parents split a year before her condition became a full-blown threat to her health. Beth’s father isn’t doing jack sh*t for her and isn’t even paying alimony or child support, using his rent and the payments of his car as an excuse (my aunt owns the apartment they used to live in together and Beth is living with her).

Anyway my aunt doesn’t make much though she doesn’t have any debt either so normally, they’d live comfortably nonetheless, but Beth is spending money as if they’re wealthy or something.

She almost never kills any of the lights when she exits rooms inside the apartment which affects my aunt’s electric bill, she only gets coffee from Starbuck’s (which may not sound fancy to you -it doesn’t to me, honestly- but we don’t live in the US or EU so not only is it a bit steep but people Beth’s age think it’s cool to go there. Basically they think anything from America is cool.), she only wants to get clothes from the brands that are either above what most people from the middle-income class (meaning us) can afford or brands that are on the high end of what we can afford, and she basically forced my aunt to go on a vacation she could barely afford.

About 3 weeks ago we went to the nearest big city to hang out since it’s the summer and they needed to shop before the vacation, my aunt invited me so I went with them. We went to a mall in the heart of the city and had breakfast. I knew my aunt was not doing all that great financially so I only agreed to her paying for my food (my mother wasn’t there and I don’t know if it happens in other cultures but here it’s seen as disrespectful to argue with your elders, especially if you’re related, to try and pay for your own food until you get a job and a salary after graduating. I don’t even know why or how it became a thing. Something about helping “the youngsters” aka. us students save money to use throughout college I guess) with the intention of buying Beth a coffee later because I knew that since there isn’t a Starbuck’s in our home city (it’s not that big) and that there was one in that mall, she’d want to go. [this will be relevant later]

We had breakfast and then shopped for a bit but Beth couldn’t find the brand of clothing she wanted to shop from there, and insisted we go to another mall that was far from there and in the opposite direction of home. It was late too, but my aunt was tired and didn’t want to argue with Beth, so she asked me if it was okay, since I was their guest in a sense without my mom there, and because I wasn’t aware of how big an issue Beth’s behaviour had been recently, I said it was okay.

Beth then upon arriving at that mall, spent 1,5 hours in one store picking out 2 tops and 1 skirt. One of the tops she picked was a very low cut and the skirt she picked is SHORT. Mind you that I wouldn’t be bothered by this if she was above eighteen but she’s 15 and in my opinion is not old enough to wear such clothes. Our country is very conservative and our city is as well. My aunt apparently only agreed to buy that one top and the skirt because Beth promised to only wear them on their previously mentioned vacation. It’s in a beach city on the south side of the country and 70% of the female population in this time of year is wearing bikinis there anyway.

After those 1,5 hours I really began to realize how Beth was acting. Right after they paid for those 3 picks my aunt wanted to leave but Beth kept pressuring him to get a mascara from Sephora. Mind you we do not live in the US or EU and Sephora only exists in large cities in our country. I don’t know how it is in the US but it is expensive here. My aunt then said that Beth had promised to be done with Sephora and to not shop there anymore but Beth countered that with saying she’d checked the prices and due to a sale it was practically the same as a common chain brand of a make-up store found almost everywhere in the country. My aunt once again was tired did not want to argue with her in public and let her go while we sat at a bench and waited for her.

She explained to me that Beth had been acting this way for months and that she hadn’t even wanted to plan this vacation. But due to something that happened last year while they were on the same vacation and Beth claimed that she couldn’t enjoy her vacation and had worn my aunt Sera down until she agreed to go again this year. She also told me how Beth told her that she wasn't a good mother and that SHE (my aunt) should be the one going to therapy.

Then to show me how much money Beth keeps spending, she opened up the bank app and showed me the transactions on the card she’d lent Beth to use. While she was showing me we noticed a Starbuck’s purchase dated today. I got confused because I had told Beth that I’d pay for her coffee. Turns out she had one before breakfast while me and my aunt were looking at something I had considered buying. And then didn’t say anything hoping her mother wouldn’t notice. -I’m not sure why, sure, my aunt doesn’t like her getting coffee from Starbuck’s but one coffee wouldn’t set her off-

Beth then bought the mascara and came back, after which we went home. Then a couple days later when we (my mother (50F), me, my aunt and Beth) were going out she took too long to get dressed and we all waited for her outside and 15 minutes later she emerged wearing the top she’d promised she wouldn’t in our home city.

My aunt forced her to go back in and change; she was fuming. And later before they left for their vacation told me Beth tried to do the same also with the skirt a few more times. And I would defend her if she was an adult but she isn’t.

This is the gist of it. My aunt is stressed to death about all this. Even after she explained their financial situation to Beth the girl refused to cut back on her, again, “tastes” and continues to, as I mentioned, uses exactly the right language and knows exactly what to do and what not to do to push my aunt’s buttons to get her way.

I want to help but am not sure how. Any advice beyond telling my aunt to grow a spine?

TL;DR : My cousin used to have anorexia which made her mother get used to going easy on her but now she's mostly okay, however she takes advantage of my aunt's inability to say "no" and is spending way too much money, it's making my aunt sruggle financially. How do I help?

About the Ricky McCormick Case (1999, Missouri) and the undeciphered code

I know of the case from KallMeKris's Crime podcast. It had immediately caught my attention because I've been a cryptanalysis geek since I first got my hands on Journal 3 from Gravity Falls as a child.

This is the original code found in the victim's pocket

There were many theories suggested by many people, and debate over whether Ricky could've wrote this himself (he was dyslecsic) but that's not what I want to talk about.

I want to talk about the code itself, because apparently, it's still unsolved to this day.

The paper reads:

"*" = I can't tell what that is

It's baffling. And what most people focused on here, including me, was the fact that almost all words end with "SE". The most common 2 letter ending of words is "-ed" so, we could try that, but then you replace "S" with "E" and "E" with "D" in every part of this cipher some words mean nothing.

It ain't that easy or someone would've solved this already.

Then there are some repeats, let me show you:

https://preview.redd.it/0uhgcqahrqdh1.png?width=1546&format=png&auto=webp&s=e94943539d4dfede88aa1ccec8a92fa6da529395

I even stopped listing them at one point because there are so many so I just colour coded them but I ran out of colours.

The first thing I noticed was that you could see "SE" used seperately, as in, one word, or some at the end of a word. Which made me think it might be "ON". It is a common way of finishing a word, (-tion, -sion, etc.) but then I tried to place it in all the spots we see "SE", there were so many instances of 4 letter words ending with "SE" and only a handful of 4-letter common words that end with "ON".

Webster's dictionary was a huge help.

I tried some others like "AN", also a common way to finish a word, but that didn't quite work out either, so I had to come up with a new idea.

That's when I came up with what I will call The Lego Theory. I think all of these words are made up of smaller pieces that act like legos, and before you say, that's how most languages work, dummy, let me explain.

In this theory (which I will explain with a duplicate I made at the end) not al "SE"s here mean the same thing. All the singular "SE" appearing seperately on their own are the same but the "SE" in "RTSE" is different from the "SE" in "PRSE". Think of "RT", "PR", and "SE" as legos. the "SE"s in those two words are the same shape but different colours, and all these three are different shapes to begin with.

"PRSE" always means one thing, maybe "LION" for example, which ends with "ON" and "RTSE" always means one thing but it might be "MEAN", which ends with "AN". That would explain why it doesn't work out when you assign just 1 meaning to "SE"

Now let me show you my duplicate: It is the last text message a close friend sent me before he ended our friendship.

KOLMH ZEN JED ABQTN ZSOGTCDN. KOLMH ZEN GEK PERILE TIF QWERT HAAD PHM SMDEG GTCDN, KOL SIRG GTINK DD NYOULAZEN OJ DR CLOOR OJCAUOR KOL KXZEN ONUR FTNGH OJHAVIDNRT. GTEOR DFIOGUKT LIK ZEN SDNSGTCDN QUEN KOL WRK TIWEN. KOL GTINK IEWOULA OJ BEYYDI SV DD KXZEN OJ CDK IHTYNT.

This is ciphered, and this is the actual text:

I'm not mad about anything. I'm not a person who holds hate for small things, I just think we shouldn't be so close because I don't like gauge behaviours. These dynamics are not something that I can stand. I think It'd be better if we don't be too sincere. (might sound odd to you, so lemme say he's not native in English)

Now, not all the letters are subsitituted with one other letter here. Fow example, "KOL" here means "EYE" and it also means "I". Because I said so.

GEK =ASS =A, MH =AM, DD =WE, OJ =BE, JED =MAD, WRK =CAN... etc.

See where I'm going with this? No one would ever be able to read this code unless I gave them the key, or they spent countless years trying out every single possibility to make this make sense, which currently is not possible even with AI, though I suppose in the future it most likely will be.

So, if the code that was found on Ricky's person was also created this way, it would explain why nobody could decipher it with the regular techniques you'd use for letter substitution ciphers, because not all the letters mean the same thing.

But somebody living in 1999 couldn't have memorized this much detail, considering how long Ricky's message is. So they most likely had a notebook where it was all detailed.

Or, less likely but still possible, they could've had it on a hard drive on a computer. I say less likely because floppy disks at the time were like... 1,44 MBs or something? If the message on Ricky weren't the only one and someone was trying to hide information with this way of deciphering, they would need a much bigger vocabulary, one that might not fit into a floppy, and those were hard to carry around.

In conclusion, the authorities cannot solve this coded message unless that find that notebook/digital glossary.

Is the first line "Once Upon A Time" truly dead now or are there ways of utilizing it still?

Is the first line "Once Upon A Time" truly dead now or are there ways of utilizing it still?

I plan to use it in the beginning of each chapter of the fantasy book I'm writing to talk about each character in a short passage before movin gon the events in the chapter focusing on that character. I think it'll work, but I want to know what you guys would think.

Here's the beginning of my book as a refence to how it'll look:

Book 1

Once upon a time, there was a princess. A magical one from a magical world, like in fairy tales, but if you asked her, she’d describe her life as more of a big bad joke.

And though second born, she didn’t complain much. She had a frail mother, but she wasn’t bedridden; she had a cold father, but he wasn’t cruel; and she had an older sister that she often thought as naïve, but she wasn’t overly arrogant or ignorant.

And she thought her life fine, until she turned eleven and found herself in captivity of humans in the human world. How she got there? It hurt to even think about, but how she got out? That would mark the beginning of something she to this day, still isn’t sure what to call, but appreciates nonetheless.

That was the day she met the two people who would later become her found family, her self-appointed guardians, and she would never forget it.

Note: I'm not native in English but the book will be in English.

Monopoly question

I feel like if you roll small numbers when the game first begins and your opponents roll higher, they get to the high rent properties first and buy them all (specially if you're playing with 3+ people) then you're stuck with small paying properties and you've lost the game already. Happened to me multiple times.

What do I do then?

Am I hopelessly in love or just straight up stupid? What can I do about someone who doesn't care nearly as much as I do?

Am I hopelessly in love or just straight up stupid? What can I do about someone who doesn't care nearly as much as I do?

I 20F was in love with my best friend, (who lives in the building next door) 21F today, for longer than I can remember. But if we take a recount of the first day of kindergarden by my mother who said I apparently pulled her hair real hard, then I suppose that might be the start of it, meaning it's been 15 years.

The biggest problem is that I'm a biromantic ace and she's straight as a pole.

So, I knew what I was getting into from the moment I came out to her and she literally said: "Of course I'm okay with it. Just don't fall in love with me cause I'm straight." I am not making this up, that's what she said.

That was in 2020 I think. Before which around 7th grade when I'd found out people of the same gender could like each other (my family and the people where I live are extremely conservative, I literally didn't know I could) I'd started calling my sister because I was still figuring out who I was and I had internalized homophobia instilled in me by my mother and her family that took me a long while to get over; After which I started referring to her as my sister even more because not only was I terrified my mother would catch up (she'd kill me) but I was scared she herself would catch up and never talk to me again.

2020-2021 was when we entered high school. Different schools. Her family could afford private, I went to a regular high school. She wants to be a doctor so she studied hard. I saw her less and less because she spent her days in her room buried in textbooks.

I didn't. I wasn't even thinking that hard about what I wanted. I've always loved to write and wanted to create something, either a web show or a book series, but that would be a side job, so I had to choose a carrier to study either way. 9th grade we had online lessons because of covid, I spent an insane amount of time online, mostly on Tumblr, and I started writing fanfictions in English for the first time. (I don't live in the US or EU)

My grammer wa strash back then but it helped me get better in English, so much so that when 10th grade started, I could show up everyone in my class in the foreign language class. So I decided to go into the language field.

I was constantly online, engaging with the rest of the fandom I was a part of (then I switched fandoms in 2022, and again in 2024) and developing y knowledge of English to the point where I can write this without looking anything up. Thus why I didn't need to study that hard as others did. I had lots of free time I used for all kinds of hobbies, like; painting, embroidery, reading (I used to read a lot. Then I met Ao3 and I abandoned physical books for the sake of gay angst and hurt/comfort).

Anyway, she didn't have that time. So I kept asking if she was free and she kept saying no, and I think that's when I first started to feel a sense of brokenness in our friendship. It wasn't her fault that she put her future first and that I didn't have any other friends because I had social anxiety left from 5th grade where the entire class had bullied me for one year.

But I didn't want to believe that it was my fault either. What had I done?

Then on 12th grade we prepared for our country's equivalent of the SATs in the US. I prepared for the Language section while she prepared for the numerics, since she wanted to study Medicine.

But in the second month of the 12th grade she almost OD-ed (BY ACCIDENT) on Zanax and I won't go into the details but it was her friends' fault. Some of them she'd known longer than me. Those b*tches did nothing as she suffered and she had to stay in the ICU for two nights. She almost died.

That disrupted her studying grately. She couldn't do anything for almost a month, and then the a month after winter break she broke her right wrist, and that was detrimental for her as well, and she failed the test.

I passed. I went to college. Her life crumbled from there. She stayed home to study and take the test again next year, in 2025, but near the end of 2024 her father revealed to her and her mother that he'd gotten loans from I don't know how many different banks -he hadn't told her mother because he was scared of her reaction- and that they were in debt for about 60K$ and that's what I know, it might be even more.

I don't know what that sounds like to you guys but here where we live that could become a life sentence. They couldn't pay for the therapy anymore and she couldn't afford all the material she needed -I helped as much as I could but there was only so much I could help with- and her parents were arguing all the time and her mother was working odd jobs to try and help (she didn't work previously) and it was hell for her.

I felt terrible, but couldn't do anything. I felt so useless, I kept asking if she needed anything, or wanted anything, but I know now that me doing that only annoyed her and stressed her out, and I just... didn't know what to do.

She could talk to her other friends about stuff, she could talk to her stupid boyfriend about that stuff (who she later broke up with and cried for weeks, again, something I can't help with), but she barely talked to me. I felt worthless. One time she asked me for money I felt like a knight in shining armour. But she didn't stop avoiding me. It only got worse.

I think she avoided/ignored me the entire first half of 2025.

She failed again. She cried for one month and started studing again. The entire summer we went to the sea 3 times, and played board games a couple times, that's it. That's how much I saw her. I'd wanted to spend time together, I wanted to make her watch some of the shows (I was obsessed with Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel. Still am) I'd seen that year that were awesome.

I didn't get to do any of that. I resented her for not making time for me after all I'd done for her (I'd even spent 1K$ on her birthday). Then I hated myself for feeling that way when I claimed to love her and what I did should've been done without expecting anything in return (even if I hadn't expected too much).

This year, I saw her even less. She wasn't taking her head out of her textbooks. But, whenever I visited town, she'd take at least two hours of one day to see me. Then, 2 months before the big day, I visited town again. I'd texted her weeks prior asking if she wanted anything. She hadn't responded. I'd let her know I was in town, she hadn't responded. Not even an "I'm busy". I felt the most worthless I ever did.

I knew she was busy, but she hadn't even send a single sentence text acknowledging my presence. Any hope I had left of our mutual love and care for each other drained out of me within one weekend. the next 1,5 months I spent listening to "I'm Over You" (From Season 2 soundtrack of Helluva Boss) and I suddenly found her lack of contact didn't hurt as much as before, and her lack of giving a damn didn't bother me as it did once. When I talked into a store every single cute item I saw didn't scream at me to buy it for her anymore.

I thought I'd be fine.

I finished my second year of college and returned to town 1 week before the test. I found myself being able to help her without expecting anything in return for the first time ever. Literally nothing.

Then her test went well and we were all so happy and this is she is most likely be able to make it. Which brings us to now.

I thought now that this year was her best, she'd maybe make the time she hadn't before. She didn't, not all that much, but I wasn't as bothered as before.

But then a week ago I sent her the first 5 pages of the book I'm writing to read and answer questions on a survey I sent to a couple people so I can gather data on what they think and improve the openning, the most important part of the book.

She said she'd do it, and never did. IT'S FIVE PAGES! There's no way she didn't have the time for it.

Today is her birthday. I spent 4 hours yesterday baking a cheesecake for her, and I can't help but feel that even if I gave up on all of my romantic feelings, is my friendship not worth reading 5 pages of something and answering 8 questions?

I know she went through so, so much, and my life has been fairly easy, so I can't help but feel that I'm not overracting this time.

That I really don't deserve to be treated this way?

So was I stupid, doing all this? Should I have let her go years ago like my mother says?

Cheesecake keeps cracking - How do I fix it?

Cheesecake keeps cracking - How do I fix it?

I've made like 8-10 in the past year and every single one except the first has cracked. Beginner's luck, I guess.

There's no butter in the recipe I'm using, but a friend said hers had butter in her recipe, could that be the problem?

Recipe (I'm only including the middle part -not the base or the fruit based top- cause I'm pretty sure that's the problem) :

1- 400mg cream cheese : mixed with the mixer

2- 200ml baking cream (dairy based) : add and mix again

3- 4 eggs : added one by one and mixed slowly

4- 3 table spoons of flour : then mix again

5- 1 table spoon of starch : mix again

6- 1 glass of sugar : mix again

7- 1 package of vanilla extract (powder form) mix again

pre-heated oven. heated to 200 Degrees Celcius - then put it in, wait 10 minutes, lower the temp to 160, and another 10 minutes and turn it off. Then it says to keep it in ther with the oven with the door open for 1 hour.

It always cracks after about half an hour of that time.

NOTE: THIS RECIPE WAS TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH. I'm not native in English and the recipe was in my native tongue. I tried my best.

I think people misunderstand how introverts really live/are like

I think people misunderstand how introverts really live/are like

Like, it doesn't mean I don't ever want to be in any social situation, ever. It just means I don't like to be in new types of social situations, ones I'm not familiar/comfortable with. If I have a couple close friends, I may or may not want to hang out with them all the time, because I know them, and I feel safe with them.

Being an introvert isn't like "I'd rather die than leave home unless I absolutely have to."

Why won't people understand that?

The Sun and The Star (Rick Riordan) Review

The Sun and The Star (Rick Riordan) Review

The prospect of a book by Rick that doesn't have Percy in it (as a main focus) might sound odd or distasteful but I really like the journey Nico and Will went on together as they both faced personal problems and stood up for each other, mirroring Percy X Annabeth. And we also saw how their personal insecurities affected their relationship.

My personal favourite was a passage near the end of the book about identity. It was heartwarming.

I 20F want to drop of out college (my parents would kill me)

I'm studying translation and interpreting (not in the US or EU) but I don't actually want to be an interpreter, and even if I became a translator, if I had to be frank, that's not what I want for my life.

I wanted to write and publish a fantasy series, and I did start about two months ago working off an idea I've had for 1,5 years (and have been writing as a fanfiction as well). Though I know that since English is not my first language and I don't live in a country people in the US or EU take seriously, it's unlikely I will ever get to publish. I still want to do it for myself though.

And I did think of alternative jobs I could do, that would fit with my personality. I found tram driving of all things as a possibility actually. Where I live they (sometimes the government companies, sometimes private companies) open positions for applications at least once every two years and I checked, I qualify all their terms (have a driver's license, don't have a criminal record, no alchohol, no drugs) to apply. After that I would have to pass an interview but if I do, and then if I pass the exam at the end of the 6-9 months of training, I start the job immediately after and the start-up pay isn't that bad.

But I've only presented this idea as a plan B to my parents, to which, my mother said it should be my plan F or something, and my father thinks I only mentioned it to mess with him, as a joke.

Not sure what to do.

Do I really need regular visits to a gynaecologist if I'm Ace? (20F)

(Also posted on r/AskDocs)

I'm Asexual and a virgin and I plan on staying that way, I've only been to a gynaecologist twice in my life, once two months after my period first started because of something that had to do with the uterus wall thickening? And once last year when my period started early and went on for longer than usual. The doc said it was a follicule cist? Or something.

The point is, I've never gone regularly, but a friend of mine said I should still go see a gynaecologist once every six months at least. Do I really need to?

The Rune Code In “The Book of Bill”

The Rune Code In “The Book of Bill”

I’ve always loved Gravity Falls but when I fell down the fall totally in love was when I got the “Journal 3” and I had one heck of a weekend deciphering the codes in it. Ceaser, Atbash, the other two that used symbol substitution and had similar symbols. One was used by Ford and the other one by Bill.

So, when I got my hands on the Book of Bill, I was so excited. And I know it’s been like 1,5 years but I only had time to devote an entire weekend to it now.

Anyway, I had so much fun decoding the first code, which was easy. It was symbol substitution again, and we were given how to write Bill’s name. Also, the letter A was revealed on a page that claimed there are no codes in the book LOL. But then I tried for the other one. The symbols looked exactly like the divination Runes I’d seen in a book I’d bought earlier this year (Magic, Witchcraft % The Occult) so I thought it’d be easy. A couple of the symbols even matched the runes perfectly, some looks similar or slightly altered, though some had nothing to do with it. Also, the code has 27 symbols not 26, don’t know why.

So, I tried and tried but no matter how I put the letters in their respective places I couldn’t get proper words out. Maybe the similarity was a misdirection? Also, the other code had 2 clues in the book that made it so easy to solve, took me just over two hours, but I couldn’t see any clues to this code that I call Rune code anywhere in the book.

And I don’t want to find out by looking it up on Youtube. I’m sure at least one person has already explained all the codes in there in a video but I don’t want to cheat… or, well, I don’t want to cheat that much.

If there really is a clue in the book that I haven’t seen that you know about, can you tell me? Please?

UPDATE:

Somebody let me know the three lines on a rock on the cipherstitions page wasn't 3 words but the alphabet itself and I counted wrong. There were 26 not 27, so it's my bad. ONTO THE NEXT!

Can anybody give any clues about the other symbol substitution cipher on the very first page? I don't see it ever being used again in the book after that except for a 2 letter word on one page where Bill threatens Ford and that is not enough. Does anybody have anything on that?

2 of my roommates have caused a problem they’re -probably- not even aware of and I’m not sure how to tell them without losing my temper

I (20F) have a temperament problem. It has caused me to lose quite a number of friends since middle school, though I hadn’t noticed how big an issue it is up till the end of high school. I have been working on it, but I guess I haven’t worked hard enough, seeing as I just last month lost another close friend to the same thing. I clearly need to try harder, maybe even start going to therapy.

The problem at hand, is that among my three roommates at my college dorm (23F that I will call Eliza, 18F that I will call Alishia & 19F that I will call Bernie) the other two that me and Eliza don’t talk to, Alishia and Bernie, messed with the mini fridge in the room that the dorm provides and if I hadn’t noticed, all our stuff would’ve gone bad.

Let me first explain why me and Eliza don’t really like the others. We were alone in the room -that has a six people capacity- for two months before they turned up, and sure, we can’t blame them for that, and we didn’t, but from the day they arrived, they made that room HELL.

They stayed up till 1 sometimes 2 AM almost every single day and made noise. I couldn’t sleep for months and was on the verge of developing insomnia when that situation was resolved, and not due to a conversation by the way, it was resolved by pure chance. They also, due to the fact that they stayed up all the time, slept during the day. Me and Eliza had to be quiet all the time in the early evenings until dusk when they woke up. They were near nocturnal, something that isn’t normal nor healthy.

And one of them -I think Alishia- was afraid of the dark. Which I am sure of but can’t prove. Why I’m sure? It’s common practice at the dorm to leave the light at the bathroom area -there are two doors next to each other, one to the toilet and one is the door of the shower and the sink where we wash our hands is right outside the two doors- open, so that if you get up at night and have to use the bathroom you don’t trip on the way there -the part of the room where we sleep is separate from the part where we study at our desks and you have to walk through the latter to get to the bathroom area- and we do that as well. The issue is that after these two moved in, they started to leave the door to the bedroom part open at night, causing light to enter where we sleep. Not to mention Bernie always made sure to pull the drapes aside halfway -only halfway because when she pulled them all the way I warned her that it bothered me and affected my sleep, and apparently the amount of respect she had for my comment was halfway- to let the morning light enter as well. Which is a lot because the dorm and the entire faculty property is located an hour away from the city on a meadow where we can see the sun’s light even before the actual sunrise. And even if I got up to close the door -I tried a few times when I got up to use the bathroom- Bernie opens it back right after I do. It only added to my sleep problems for months.

So, you understand why I don’t like them, and don’t wish to interact. So much so that I don’t even have their phone numbers.

And the problem with the fridge.

I started to notice around last Sunday-Monday that there was something off with the fridge. I’d bought a special type of pickles from a store -that I can’t always go to because it’s far- on Saturday, but if hadn’t get cold even after two nights in the fridge. Even though when I’d bought another jar of the same thing two months ago, it was pretty cold after just one night in there. Then on Monday night, I noticed that the hard cold frost in the deep freeze had started to melt, and became sure that the fridge was gaining heat.

I panicked. I’d already gone through a problem at the dorm last year, I couldn’t afford another. And I was alone.

The school has given the students one week of vacation time to stay in and study for the upcoming finals, which starts this Monday, and the others had used that opportunity to visit home and all left. I’d gotten tickets too actually, and I was leaving first thing Tuesday morning. I’d only be staying three days and be returning on Friday, but if I didn’t do something the food in the fridge would go bad. I doubted the maintenance department would be open at night or tomorrow morning since I had to leave before 9 AM. and didn’t know what to do.

Then I noticed the small gauge inside the fridge on one side. It pointed to 1. When I tried turning I saw that if I turned it to 0 the fridge lights turned off and when I let go it went back to 1 anyway. It could go up to 6 if I turned the other way.

I did a quick google search and couldn’t find a definite answer but with enough to go on, I turned the gauge up to 3 and left if there through the night. Then in the morning the liquids in the fridge felt colder to me, and I left it that way, and went home to my hometown. And during my days home I had texted Eliza -I didn’t have the other girls’ numbers- and she told me she hadn’t touched the gauge.

Then I returned last night, and saw that the frost was hard as stone again, and the fridge seemed to be back to normal. Do you understand what that means?

I didn’t touch the gauge, Eliza didn’t touch the gauge, but seeing as it turned back to normal after I got it up to 3, somebody clearly did. Somebody turned it down to 1. AND UNLESS SOMEONE WE DON’T KNOW SNUCK IN TO DO IT, IT HAS TO BE ALISHIA AND BERNIE!

Those two idiots messed with the fridge, didn’t tell us, and if I hadn’t noticed before I went home, all our stuff would’ve gone bad. I have 50$, maybe 60$ worth of food in there. I AM PISSED. And I can’t know for sure until they come back and I talk to them, but it has to be them. My theory is that they thought the fridge would get colder if they turned the gauge down, and turned it down without telling us.

So, how do I, someone with a temperament problem who avoids confrontation if possible due to anxiety issues but can get very angry and very rude if triggered -especially if someone messes with my things- and can possibly curse up a storm, who had been staying silent about all of their crap for months, talk to these extremely intelligent people, without it getting physical or this issue reaching the ears of the administration?

Because I don’t think I can stay calm.
