Finally seen Substance and it was terrible!
(I knew nothing about the film. Only that it was a big hit last year. I've seen no reviews yet so I have no idea if my opinions/observations are popular or unpopular)
It is essentially the FLY but much worse without any class and with lame ending.
-It is too long. We know what will happen from first frames of the movie. Title substance, we focus on the egg separating and we see an older actress. We know what the movie will be about. She will clone or something and they will fight and mutate. I knew that in first 5 minutes.. then you wait over 2 hours....
-How the hell does she builds A NEW ROOM in an apartment?! where is the room coming from?! How does she know how to do that and have tools !!!!
-The dude heard a weird noises coming from the bathroom and just booked it out of there?! like WHAT. You are sleeping with famous person. Call the police!
The ending is terrible for few reasons....
-A NUDE NEW YEARS PARTY ON A TV?! WITH KIDS !!!
-Possibly it was all in her head as she didn't make it to the show at all... but why make it ambiguous? It serves no purpose to make us think he whole eve show was fake.
-if she made it to the show for real... how the hell would they let her in and the rest is just so bad.
I would be totally all in with the direction the movie went to but it is not a direction for this movie.
Granted, I just seen obsession few days ago so maybe I was expecting something much more subtle and clever (loved obsession) but substance was such a bad movie.
