Looking for playtesters for my chess game with deck-building and new pieces

Hey everyone!

I’m an indie developer, and I’ve just released the beta of Chess: The Update.

It keeps the core simplicity of chess, but lets you build your own deck, choose different pieces, and use their unique abilities during matches.

I’m mainly looking for feedback on:

  • Whether the rules and abilities are easy to understand
  • Piece balance
  • Bugs or technical issues
  • User interface and overall game feel
  • Whether the matches are actually fun and strategically interesting

🎮 Play here: https://hickodev.itch.io/chess-the-update

Any honest feedback would be greatly appreciated, even if you only play one match. Please let me know what you liked, what felt confusing, and what you think should be improved.

Also, what new piece would you add to chess?

After 1,500 Years, I Decided Chess Needed an Update

Game Title: Chess: The Update

Playable Link: https://hickodev.itch.io/chess-the-update

Platform: Windows PC

Description:
After 1,500 years, chess is finally getting an update!

Chess: The Update is a turn-based strategy game that combines the familiar rules and tactical depth of chess with deck building and unique playable pieces. Before each match, you build your own deck, choose which pieces to bring, and create a strategy around their different movement patterns and special abilities.

During the match, every decision matters. You can move a piece, activate an ability, capture enemy pieces, and find new combinations to outplay your opponent. The goal is to keep the game simple and readable like traditional chess while introducing more variety, customization, and unexpected strategies.

The beta is now available, and I would really appreciate it if you could play the game and share your honest feedback.
