I want to try and get into lesbian fiction as a person who has only ever read straight or gay love stories before. I am craving a love story maybe set in war time or the 20th century. I need them to both be full adults - not young teenagers or anything. Good writing - and i mean excellent - is a requirement. I'm very open minded. I need the characters to be interesting and lovable. But if not, at least complex. I'm very okay with bleak or sad tone or themes so don't hold back!

I'm writing a book and want to do a little research into the whole of the 19th century. With some focus on both the battle and home fronts. I've never done this type of research before and I'm a college student. I've heard that first hand accounts are always the best in terms of researching anything: so how do i find first hand accounts that will help me do the type of sweeping research i want to do on the 19th century as a whole. Since the focus isn't just America at the time but the worldwide events happening.The topic of research is very expansive. But i'd say the focus is a little bit on woman and their place in the world at the time. Specific areas of interest: Lesbians/woman who went in to the military at that time. First hand accounts.

Hello, I’m not a researcher but I’m somebody that has a reasonable thirst for being able to teach myself things and thus do research for a multitude of subjects. Like for writing a novel or anything else.
In a world where ai is becoming more prominent I want to break from that and be able to do my own research but it feels daunting and I don’t know where to start.
How do I research and teach myself things to the point of reasonable proficiency? Like if I wanted to study history or a very specific and niche subject? I know some basic things like primary sources are the best and secondary sources are okay but not much else. Can someone who knows what they’re doing help me out?

I want to find my writing style but i don't know how? I want to write a book but I feel under qualified to do so and very indecisive about what i want to write and convey in the first place. I feel like everybody in my field has been writing their whole lives and i can only manage a half-assed effort and it feels like I'm running out of time somehow. Its true that pretty soon I won't have as much time on my hands as i do right now. The ideas are never the problem but the execution of them.

I'd like some honest advice about my situation right now.

I read,"The anatomy of genres" and have a question I'd like to ask on here. What is the secret to creating a character 'ghost' that isn't just unnecessary trauma for the characters? The ghost is what actively haunts the characters through the story - like an event or something. But its too easy to make it about their whole life or giving them too much PTSD and not making the most of their 'Ghost'.

I’m new to the fandom. In the year 2026 I heard of a fanfic called the danish slaughterhouse read it and wanted to watch hetalia. But it’s pretty small fandom and I’m big on shipping! I want another good book to read. As for my preferences, I read tender is the flesh and utterly dystroyed that book in a day and a half. I loved everything and the writing style was my favorite. I loved it. Weird and horrific. Get creative. Particularly with twisted relationships and cannibalism. An afterlife and/or hell isn’t bad to read about either. I’m being vague on purpose. My non-negotiable is that the main character must be broken or not well mentally and the writing easy to read or at least good prose.

Can you guys give me some advice? I am writing a dark romance. The romance is the focus, and the horror is the subplot and not the main focus, but important. I'm scared that I'm going to lead readers to suspend their belief that the romance is real, or I'm gonna take it too far and make it too toxic. I don't know where the line is, because the story I'm thinking of could get pretty dark.  How do I avoid that? Also, when I think of a happy ending I think of marriage but that's not really possible in my story so I'm so worried about that.

Okay, I have multiple to interpret today. All of them are quite recent, except for a few. As I list them, I will be jumping around to the dreams I can remember so they aren't in any particular order.

1. This is a dream I have shared before. It was winter and heavily snowing. I could see everything from the eyes of a little boy in the backseat. It was impossible to see outside with all the snow. A man is in the front seat, but from where he is, you can only see his silhouette. As the little boy talks, I get more and more concerned - as it's clear that the two are living in the car and have no money, and the boy has possibly been kidnapped. The horrifying part is that the boy seems to not realzie this himself.
2. This dream opens with a guy on a motorcycle delivering items well in the night. He narrates about a family of three or four who lived in a red brick house. In the dream, I could see the house, and there were various skulls(or what I assume to be skulls) lying around but they look off. Like i can tell what they're meant to be but i can't quiet place them. He narrates that this family never realized they were living with 10 men. We later cut to a scene of a little girl or boy entering a forest. Out comes a man who comes across a house. It is overtaken by the earth to the point that only one corner of the house is showing. A window(with no glass; I think it was a hut or cabin). The man reaches inside and grabs a photo on the table within reach. It shows the family of four in it.

(note: the next few are going to be a bit more obvious as to what they mean)

3. This dream takes place in an orphanage or daycare. It has a lot of kids and some adults; the walls are pink and have childlike drawings on them. I am there too. A man(or maybe a few) hold us hostage with guns and stuff. I know that I was terrified in the dream. I don't know what happened after that, as I can't remember.

4. This dream is very horrifying. My father came home with an amputated leg and calmly explained that the government was taking people's limbs as tax - he explained it was some sort of minority thing. There was even a place like a dentists office just dedicated to this. I think I was really worried about the state of affairs right now since this isn't the first time I've dreamed this. My brother and I were scared. But eventually we were next. I think this dream is pretty clear, so I won't go into detail.

5. I have also had multiple dreams about home invaders too. On one occasion, my siblings and I were in the car bickering as per usual when we pulled up to a mansion made of some opaque material like glass(not our house). When we went inside a saw a man in black had broken into the house. On another occasion, I was being stalked, but the dream was mixed with some odd elements too. There was even one about a pair staring at my sleeping through a glass door and trying to get in.

I am interested to see your interpretation of these dreams - other then the obvious.

Hi, I'm looking for advice and I'm going to rant a little bit so sorry in advance. I've been wanting to write a book for a while now. I understand in order to write a good book you have to read a lot which is something i've ben trying to improve on since i originally did not read a lot.

But recently i had this wip that I'm stuck on the brainstorming phase on. i have this feeling i want to convey but no clue what it is. And the biggest issue is that there are so many ways to write this and options that i feel super indecisive and cannot decide in a single way to do things. Since I began i never finished a full novel but i learned a lot from other authors. I wanted to add, that i have no interest in publishing anything and just want to have fun with it. At most I'll own a copy for myself.

I also feel a sense of imposter syndrome - like a panel of authors are judging or something. Since most have been writing since they were kids and have honed the craft so much and i've been 'wanting to write' since i was young but never followed through before.

Has anybody ever felt indecisive about what they wanted to write before? If so, how did you get out of it?

Hi, can someone tell me what psychological horror is? Like actually? I know the threat has to be internal but to what extent? Does that mean there can be no external threat at all? Not very many people talk about it on its own and when they do they often don’t mean psychological horror in actuality.

I need a book that combines true psychological horror and romance! Note: physiological horror is when the threat is internal. Please research what that means!

How do I write a story that is both a psychological horror and romance at the same time? The romance requires that it’s the main focus and has a happy ending while the other genre requires that the horror comes from the main characters own mind and that it has an ambiguous ending(or at least it’s common). The threat being purely from themselves is the confusing part. Like to what extent can this internal strife manifest on the outside? I’m in love with both of these genres so I want to write it. For fun only. Also my idea of love is very taboo and would make most people uncomfortable. (Not incest or anything weird just unhealthy). Again. I have never written a book and it won’t be published.

Okay, this question may be obvious but I’ll ask it anyway: how do I navigate combining romance and horror? I just mean that the ending for a romance must be happy but the horror element means it’s not always going to be a happy ending or at least that it’s subject to interpretation. I know the dark horror genre lends some space to toxic couples and such but how do I know how far I can go with it?
