Pre-ACT scores vs practice tests

On the Pre-ACT in 10th grade, got a 32 in Reading and Math, but English a 20. Science was 26 which feels low. I have adhd so I am always slowed down by the reading. On practice test for a prep class, I got a 30 on the English.

Is it the case, that I do actually know a good chunk of the material, but just need to work on test strategies? Do these scores reflect that I know the material?

Aiming for 32-34 composite for Engineering programs. I hope it is possible.

Teen in constant panic mode

Since our teen was little, he has always been wired and “on.” He never can relax. He is constantly thinking or doing to the point that he doesn’t have friends. He is super bright, funny and sweet. But he cannot just “be.”

What was your experience as a teen? How did you cope? Is this just how your body is wired?

Anxiety since birth?

Our 15 yo has ALWAYS been anxious. When he was a baby, he wouldn’t fall asleep easily. He was always up. He can never relax! He was always thinking. As a teen now, nothing has changed, except now he developed ocd in the last few months.

We have appointments for neurology & a psychiatrist, and we are waiting results for a neuropsyche test. He has already been diagnosed w anxiety, ocd and adhd. He is on Zoloft for ocd, but his anxiety is SO high.

Just curious if this is how your teen is or how you were as a teen.

He is always in panic mode if that makes sense.

He is a great kid and doesn’t misbehave. Very bright as well.

15 yo son - no friends

Do your teen sons have friends? It is summer. During my son’s downtime, I wish he would socialize. He only hangs out with his younger brothers. I know he is bored at times. He will watch tv alone. He doesn’t play videogames. He goes to sports practice, but never makes plans with kids outside of his sport.

I worry about him connecting with others. 😔

Hoping he will find his people in college

But what do we do in the meantime? 😩

Severe fear of bloodwork

How do you help someone with Contamination OCD get blood drawn? My 15 yo refuses to get his bloodwork. He said the only way he will do it is to be sedated. He has to get it done to rule out any underlying infections that may be at the cause of his OCD which just started 4 months ago.

Sertraline side effects?

15 yo son has been on Zoloft for 2.5 months. 50 mg

Has had ocd for 4 months.

He is still taking 2 hour long showers. And takes FOREVER to get out of the house. He is either getting dressed, pacing, staring and/or showering.

We are meeting with a new psychiatrist next week but we are concerned that he is so slow. He does have inattentive ADHD and is not on meds for it.

He does go to therapy 1x with an ocd specialist.

We can’t figure out why he is so slow and spacy. It takes so long for him to transition to a different activity. But once he gets going in the morning after his slow rituals, he seems to be okay for the rest of the day.

What side effects did Zoloft have on you?
