Are Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen playing JonBenét Ramsey’s parents in the new Netflix series?

They are waaaay too old! Especially McCarthy. Patsy Ramsey was 39 in 1996.

I guess if they pull it off it doesn’t really matter, right? But why not cast age appropriate actors? Just a thought.

Hey America, why are your toilet bowls so full?

Australian here. Went to the US a few years ago and was soooo uncomfortable with the amount of water that sits in a toilet bowl. It’s basically all the way up to the top. It’s like squatting over a full bucket of water. What happens if you have diarrhea? Does it just come out of you and splatter around and mix with the water? I can’t even imagine. I don’t understand why it’s like this, does anyone know? (FYI, Australian bowls are only roughly half-full, so no chance of your balls or, if you’re endowed, other stuff hitting water while you’re sitting)

Edit: just because I feel like over sharing, if I do a number two I like to put a few sheets of toilet paper over the water in the bowl so that when I drop my kids off, I don’t get splash-back in my squinter. I guess in America you don’t need the toilet paper because there’s not as much distance between and pool?

If Rory has gotten pregnant at 16…

… and then Rory’s kid had gotten pregnant at 16 as well, then that would have been in 2016. Which means in a mere six years time, Lorelai would be a great-grandmother. 🤯

Production-wise, what exactly happened in season 6-7?

One thing I’ve always appreciated with the first 5 seasons was just how gorgeously lit everything was, and how much effort went into design and making things look realistic.
Season 6 and 7, it’s like they’ve taken the dynamics out of everything. They’ve dialled back the contrast and highlights, if that makes sense. On top of that, the uniqueness of each constant setting was down to the characters bonding with the spaces and each other, making memorable scenes. But season 6 (particularly 7) you get scenes of Rory and Logan at Logan’s apartment, then Rory and Paris’s apartment, and I tell you… they pale in comparison to all of the other set pieces in the show.
Had they just sort of given up by that point? Did they all collectively go: “I’m tired after 5 years. Let’s just throw a bunch of crap together and whatever.” Or was there more? I know about the whole ASP and DP contract disputes, etc. and Dawn Ostroff butchering the show to make it more Sex and the City appealing on the CW, but it feels like more than that. It’s like the soul of the show solely faded out as season 6 went along.
Even AYITL wasn’t great. Though it technically looked good, it was hyper-realistic and as a result looked like it was on a lit stage.
What gives!?

What’s the episodes where Homer lies down on the ground and says: “I’m tired”?

I really thought it was an episode where he traveled to China or somewhere else. But I can’t remember anymore details. It was from an episode like 20+ years ago. I feel like he was outside of a building nearish night and he just laid down on the ground while it was (maybe?) raining, and he was by a bunch of parked cars. It was very amusing which is why I want to watch it again, but I can’t remember a single other thing.

Is Call meant to be…

I’m halfway through Dead Man’s Walk and there is a distinct section where it mentions Call being enamoured by a girl “no older than 12”.
Given I’ve just come off Streets of Laredo where I had initially being suspicious of the way Call was written to have an affinity with Theresa, I’m now even more convinced that McMurtry is suggesting Call likes… little girls? 🤔

How am I meant to interpret it otherwise? Help me out here.

David’s abduction episode in Six Feet Under

Back when this first aired in Australia, it was a real effort to keep on top of it each week because it aired at 10:30pm every Monday. So it wasn’t exactly popular. And since the internet was in its early days, you’d watch shows back then with no idea what to expect.

And boy baby was this one out of the blue. I’ve never been so unprepared for an episode of TV in all my life. The next day at uni I asked my friend “did you watch Six Feet Under last night?” and she immediately turned to me with wide eyes, said nothing, and wiggled her fingers around in frustration to emphasise how insane it was.

Did anybody else get lowkey ptsd from this episode? 😂😂😂

Keri Russell should do a comedy

I know The Diplomat is sort of light-hearted for a political show, but it’s still a drama. She’s great in everything she does. But whenever I see her in bloopers or talk shows, her personality is INSANELY CHARMING and I think she should try doing a comedy series! Look at her partner, Matthew Rhys, currently killing it in Widow’s Bay. I think she should try this too. It might be massively successful.

Does Larry McMurtry HAVE to… [SPOILERS]

Honestly, I finished SoL a week ago and the Epilogue killed off Clara in the last few pages. It was so random and unnecessary. Why did McMurtry do this when it brought nothing to the story at that point!? It was just cruel.

Is there a scientific term for a song popping into your head for no reason?

So I woke up this morning with “Welcome to My Life” by Simple Plan playing over and over in my head. Specifically: “Do you ever feel like breaking down? Do you ever feel out of place?”
I can tell you that the last time I heard that song was about 10 years ago, even though I do like it. Waking up with it in my head has actually reminded me to add it to my Apple Music library
But I know for a fact that it came out of NOWHERE. I didn’t hear it on any video beforehand as I’d just woken up. So what’s that called, specifically? And I wonder if mood has any thing to do with it. I woke up in a good mood, and noticed in general when this random song thing happens when I wake up, that it’s often because I’m in a good mood.

Lorelai looks younger in season 7 than she did in season 1

Maybe it’s just the refined makeup and more casual clothes in general, but wow I’m watching some scenes from season 7 and Lauren Graham looks AMAZING. Almost SUSPICIOUSLY so. 🤔 I guess once she got her Inn up and running there was no need for business-like attire like in the first few seasons, and it makes her look ten years younger.

How did Sean Gunn gradually manage an opening credits slot?

Interestingly, my phone auto-corrected his name to Sean Penn. 🤔

Just curious how he got to such a prominent role. First off he was a one-liner actor, but they kept bringing him back. And eventually he became Kirk. But why him? What did he do? How did he get that initial role?

I know noting. Would love to know how it came about. Since his brother is in the business and was married to Jenna Fischer, I assume Gunn had connections already before he was on GG?

The beginning of Dead Man’s Walk is one of the most visually creepy scenes I’ve ever experienced in a book

The scene where Gus is running for his life during a lightning storm and chased by Buffalo Hump was soooo well written! I could picture it perfectly and it was scarier than any horror movie.

I have a love-hate relationship with the adult casting in the movies

Rickman was far too old for Snape, and as a result all the others that were in his year at school (Harry’s parents, etc.) were aged up considerably. But Rickman was the right choice! He IS Snape. But it always niggles in the back of my mind that he wasn’t 30 in the movies.

Roseanne saved my life

I got into this show in 2011 when I started a godawful physically and mentally demanding job, and had no friends or partner and was living with my parents and very very miserable in life. Every day id come home and watch a taped episode of Roseanne (I got into it from season 4), and soon I became obsessed and it was my favourite show. For a good three or so months I watched it from season 4 till the end, the bought the DVD’s and watched seasons 1 to 3. The last episode made me cry, which never happens with TV shows. I was astounded as the show went on how emotional, hilarious and bonded I became with the Conner family. To this day I think it is one of the greatest shows of all time. So sad it wasn’t shot on film so we’ll never have a remastered version. I think also as a gay guy, I’m proud of how this show tackled touchy subjects. I also loved the episode where Roseanne scolds DJ for not wanting to kiss a black girl in a play.
But yeah, this show I think came into my life at exactly the right time, and saved me from the misery of my life at the time. I’ll always remember that and be appreciative of it.

Amazing how important TV shows and movies can be for people. I wonder how many lives they’ve actually genuinely saved over the years.

God, there’s REALLY not enough episodes

After this week’s episode I felt like I’d been cheated out of an episode! They NEED at LEAST 13 episodes per season, and to make each episode 45 minutes. It’s just not enough otherwise. I’m sick of these shows having barely enough each season to get you through a few hours if you binge from start to finish.

Not sure I liked Streets of Laredo

I stayed up all night finishing the last 250 pages, and although it was clearly good enough to keep reading, it just didn’t hit the spot for me in general. There was plenty I loved, but the death in the last few pages was unnecessary and cruel, and it just sort of ended without any sort of point, which I’ve heard elsewhere IS the point. But whereas the cruel ending of Lonesome Dove was the perfect kind of tragic end to a story, this didn’t have that. I feel a sort of ugliness when thinking of the book as a whole and am sad that there wasn’t more happiness in it in general as there was with Lonesome Dove. Of course, it was better than most books out there, so I’ll take that as a positive. And I’m starting Dead Man Walking tonight. But man… What a melancholy novel. Not much resolve for anyone in the story. (I’m glad Freelance Man got his telescope though for some reason)

Did Joan Cusack deserve an Oscar nom for Addams Family Values?

Lots of talk about this in recent years online, and I would be inclined to agree the more I think about it. Yep, a slapstick comedy, I get that. But the awards are for best acting, not best realistic acting. And she’s the driving force of that movie, is just a tour-de-force. In terms of comedic performances, hers is fleshed out and a goddamn sight to behold. On top of that, I remember being terrified of her as a kid. Didn’t even see Joan Cusack the actress most of the time. Weird that the two roles she ended up actually being nominated for didn’t really pack the same kind of punch.

Despite its later surge in popularity, Gilmore Girls is still constantly overlooked and considered a fluffy girlie teen show by many

Despite being in top TV shows of all times lists, people who haven’t watched much of it still consider it a ditzy 7th Heaven/Smallville-type show. And that always amazes me. Seems that shows with females as the leads are constantly written off without given a chance. It’s some of the best writing for a TV show ever, seriously, and balances drama and comedy (like, best comedy show on TV in 2004, tied with Scrubs). Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop should’ve won MULTIPLE Emmys. But the problems are: the WB network bias, assumptions because of it, and the fact the show started out as a drama but then went to dramedy, and then flat-out comedy by season 5. This was before Desperate Housewives made dramedy a “thing”, so there was nowhere to put it. It’s just such an unusual show. But so incredibly versatile from episode to episode.

(Seriously though, Lauren Graham gave one of the best and consistent performances ever for a television show. It’s a crime she only received one Golden Globe nomination, and in a Drama series at that.)
