I found a new to me cannabis shop. Each time we see a new one we stop. They are getting better at stocking product. But they are tightly regulated. So, you have to cut them slack bc if they could have it, they likely would.

It was a cool little and by little I mean a sea can with a small, very small extension. With a massive window. Everything here is behind locks.

I have had significant headaches of late. Indoor goverment regulated cannabis is MUCH more potent than my best tested to date of AK-47 testing @18%. So, hubs bought me a summer pack. I will include pics.

So this afternoon I chose Ghost Train Haze.

I took some pics bc it is cool! Check out the parent company in the pic on the left.

Do you have any cool looking shops you have seen?

Cannabis is legal in my country. I thank the stars above each day!

After you grow successfully...what to do next.

So, you have successfully grown your cannabis and have buds! Great job! But now what to do?

I used to save all my trimming leaves, I do not anymore they go back to the Earth. I trim most of the leaves off before I wash. Last year I did not wash I was lazy and it was getting very cold.

WASHING

You need to decide if you are going to wash your cannabis or not. If you are washing you need several 5 gallon pails of filtered water - I use hose water and let it sit for 48 hours before washing.

Bucket One

Water

Bucket Two

Peroxide small amount and water

Bucket Three

Water

Bucket Four

Lemon juice small amount and water

Bucket Five

Water

Dry not washed

DRYING

I hang mine on my clothesline and let them drip for however long before they are not constantly dripping.

I put coloured tape with the strain name on my stems as I chop so I know which plant is which. Even if you only have one plant, I believe it is good practice.

Then I move them to the shed where they hang with fans moving the air. NOT blowing on the buds, but facing a wall, and the air bounces around the 10x10 shed.

Then the waiting game. You can read all about how long it takes to dry but most are drying inside where they can control the environment. I have a shed and I have zero control over the weather.

First day drying

Several days later

The stems are supposed to snap. Mine never do. So, I go by the bud and how it smells bc at times it will smell like hay and you will be asking questions, this passes. When I think it is dry enough, I wait another weekish or so. Bc if you jar it early it will mould! There is zero chance that wet buds put in a sealed jar will not mould.

Almost there

Trimming time - not the ziploc bag I mentioned lol

TRIMMING

I begin trimming with a heater in the shed and go as long as I can. My last harvest I did 6 straight hours with the rain pouring outside it was blissful, minus the sore hands. Then I stuffed the remainder into a massive ziploc storage bag and hoped for the best! Which I just trimmed a couple weeks ago and YAY it worked!

I put the buds into mason jars and make sure each jar has a label. Bc you will NOT remember which is which. Trust me...lol

CURING

Here is the tricky part. You have made it this far so stay with the process. Do not give up now. Now is when the rubber meets the road in the process. You can skip washing, you can skip trimming, you may NOT skip curing or the entirety of your labour will be for not!

Fill each jar loosely - VERY IMPORTANT

Do not overfill the jars. Get more, but do not stuff them full. The bud requires air flow to cure.

Each day burp your jars. Open the lid, move the jar around - I do my best to not touch during this process. Just move the jar around to move the bud inside without too much force.

This can take a LONG time. Be patient, you are nearly there! You can put hydrometers in a few jars if you are curious, but your nose is your best ally. The aroma will change over time and I always sniff at least 12 jars (but I grow 4 plants and have dozens of jars) as I am opening them. If it is mouldy you will notice it. Trust your smell.

Hydrometer - $13.99 for 2

Once cured then you can smoke away!

Trim away what you do not want to smoke, and I do save trim after curing. There are a lot of goodies in the trim now that it is cured.

This is the process I use. You can and will adjust your process to suit your needs and grow. I spent a lot of time online figuring it out and there are some EXCELLENT guides out there! I took what I learned and tweaked it to work for me. Each grow I learn something new usually more than one thing. As you progress with your knowledge your grows for the most part improve.

Please share your successes and failures, bc I learn more from failure than success.

I hope that this is helpful to some of you in our Tribe. Growing cannabis is something that is a forgiving process. Being able to grow legally in my country is something I did not think I would see in my lifetime. I am grateful to be able to grow, and make tinctures, salves, drinks, and baked goodies to manage my chronic pain.

Sometimes not the bloom you were hoping for...

For those learning this is a male plant. Those are pollen sacks. A male plant is able to pollinate a 10 khm radius. It is late in the season. I still have 3 females. But, this was my second best plant this grow. Onward and upward. Excellent PSA on why you do twice daily checks.

Garden is thriving. I am in my 2nd year using this set up. Lessons have been learned. Changes will be made next season. But, I have successfully grown corn, no cobs yet, but tassles.

I trimmed my nasturiums and that will help get light in. The romaine is likely finished bc of the heat. Two zucs are ready in a couple days. Peas are starting. Beans are forming. My toms are being shaded by the overhead tree. I think I will move them next year.

Knowing when to harvest your medicine...

To assist our tribe is knowing when it is right for them to harvest their cannabis to aid in their medical journey I have copied and pasted a chart to guide you on your decision making. As trichomes age they change. Depending on your goal for your cannabis usage depends on when to harvest. This chart is a very handy reference to have near your grow. I have this one pinned to the inside of my garden shed. I only grow outdoors not in.

I hope you find this information useful as you are learning to grow better medicine.

Making Paper at Home

I have wanted to make paper for quite some time now but kept putting it off. I found a free blender (should not use for food after processing paper) I no longer had an excuse to put it off. I waited until the garden was in and independent.

I watched a bunch of videos that honestly made it look easy but you had to purchase this and buy that. I had saved the screens from when we had new windows installed and that was my plan to use them.

I pulled out the sawhorses and set up the kettle. I will skip the kettle now. I just will let it soak a couple of days. You get a LOT of pulp from a small amount of paper. I got some old work papers and started ripping. I put the paper in a bucket and poured the hot water over it to let soak overnight (highly recommend).

I had 4 buckets soaking overnight. I set things up to be ready for the next phase.

The next morning I put lots of water from my collection tank into the blender with softened paper and pureed it! I used an old t-shirt I had cut up to pour my mixture onto and did it over 2 buckets to save some of the water run off.

I filled up my screens and tried some on material to absorb water and a few just on the screen. The next morning they were dry enough to peel off and I hung them in my shed to finish drying.

Once I figure out the consistency of the pulp in the blender then I will add flowers and seeds for gifting. But as of right now I have not yet mastered the ratio of water to pulp. It has been fun and at the end of it I get pretty paper.

Any paper that does not meet the cut goes back in the slew and mixed up for the next batch.

I am planning on making seed paper, colourful flowers, and leaves, I will also use canna leaves once I start trimming my ladies as I will have lots to add. I am also toying with the idea of using a red cabbage to dye a batch of paper.

Have you ever made paper? Do you want to but like me were putting it off? Do it! When the temperatures are high it is nice to work with water and stay coolish!

Please share if you have made paper. Did it work the way you thought it would? Did you enjoy the process?
