Because of lack of transcoding support on my DS923+, I got myself a mini pc that can handle it. It has Ubuntu Server 26.04 running and now I was wondering which protocol nowadays is the easiest to setup to give my server read-only permissions to my movie and tv-show libraries on my Synology. Would creating a new user on my Synology with only read permissions on those libraries for the server and then using those credentials on SMB be the easiest but still secure way to go about it? Don't have any experience with NFS and it looks a bit more work to setup.

I have a spare Raspberry Pi 4 1Gb laying around. Would using it with OpenWRT and a TP-Link UE300 usb to gigabit ethernet for WAN be okay to use or would you advise against it from experience?

I'm looking for a router for a small flat (55m2) and the space where all the cables come in/go out is quite small. My initial plan was to just put a switch there and put the router in the living room where a few cables exit to a wall socket. But I was thinking a travel router could fit there nicely and it would be a clean solution. Would the wireless antennas be too weak to be used as a home router in an apartment with multiple rooms or could something like the Beryl AX/7 work?

I already have a subscription to 365 Premium because of family backup and office needs. Is the Copilot chat with newer models worth it to use nowadays compared to other chat apps or is it still fastly inferior? I'm not a heavy user but sometimes it's convenient to troubleshoot some things.

Looking for experiences of iCloud on Windows 11. I have a family member who is basically completely in the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch) except for her desktop PC which she uses to game on. We are trying to decided on a cloud storage provider to consolidate all her files and photos. Even though it's not the cheapest, I thought her sharing the 2TB plan with her family made the most sense and then just installing iCloud on her Windows desktop, but I've read some less than ideal things about specifically the Windows client.

Other options are OneDrive and Google Drive and installing those apps on all her Apple devices plus setting up photo uploads, but curious what other people's findings are.

So I found two discs with writing on it that it indicates some backup. One the dvd drive spins and tries to open it but fails. The other one seems to hang on some of the folders/files. Both have scratches but don't seem to show signs of delamination or typical disc rot.

There is a local shop I used to resurface some video game discs for Xbox 360 and that has worked for me in the past. Would it be a good idea to bring the discs there and see if in some miracle I could recover these discs or are there other steps I should do first before I do that?

I have some 2.5" 1TB hdd's laying around which have seen almost no use. I run a Synology DS923+ with 4 drives and use Hyper Backup to backup to an attached external drive every night. I'm still trying to figure out which off-site I should go with for my absolutely critical data which is below 1Tb. Would a DS124 at a family's member house populated with one of these non-NAS laptop drives be a crazy idea instead of just going with Backblaze B2/Synology C2?

Wondering if anyone is using MEGA's S4 object storage for offsite backups for their Synology. Pricing seems a bit better than other providers like Backblaze and C2 but cannot find many experiences on it for NAS backups.

I just got a Legion Go S and looking around for accessories. I'm looking for a nice travel case and saw the JSAUX one which seems very durable. I also would like to get one of those TPU cases that sits around the sides and back of the device but was wondering if the console still fits inside the case when it's on or if it's an exact fit? Anyone that has this carry case and is also using a TPU case on the console itself?

A local electronics store has a pretty good deal on an open box OnePlus Watch 3. Would it still be a good buy for around (€100) considering OnePlus is leaving and software support is kind off lacking from OnePlus anyway. Seems the OPW 3 is still stuck on Wear OS 5

My food syncs fine between web and mobile (Android) but whenever I manually change my goals like calorie goal or macro percentages it doesn't reflect on the app. It seems there is a syncing issue specifically for goals (and possibly other things). Does anyone have the same issue and knows a way to solve this?

I know there are some concerns about the performance of the Z2 GO apu, but I could get a Legion Go S with the Z2 Go, 32Gb and 1Tb storage for a very reasonable price locally. It comes with Windows but would like to put Steam OS on it. Do you think it would be a bit more serviceable because of the 32Gb of ram or would it be held back too much because of the cpu?

The other option for a similar price around here is the Asus ROG Xbox Ally and otherwise the 16gb/512gb/Z2 Go of the Legion Go S for about 40 euro less.

When I purchase Dishonored on Steam I get the RHCP version because I'm living in one of those areas. Is it possible to have someone who lives outside of those to gift me the game so it shows up normally in my Steam account?

For a NUC mini-pc I'm looking for some RAM. The workload only would require 2-3Gb of RAM max. Unfortunately the system only takes DDR5 and haven't been able to find 4Gb DIMMS. Do they even exist or is 8Gb the minimum DIMM size with DDR5?

I'm going to be a first time player of the Crysis games and was wondering what is the best platform and versions to go for.

I have both a PC (Intel B580, Intel i5-14400f) and a Xbox Series X. Should I go for the remastered trilogy on either of those or perhaps the originals through backwards compatibility on the Xbox in your opinion?
