Artwork by Piero Manzoni

"Artist's Shit" is a 1961 anti-artwork by Piero Manzoni. The work consists of 90 tin cans, each reportedly filled with approximately 1 oz of the artist's own feces, and measuring 1.9 in × 2.6 in, with a label in Italian, English, French, and German stating:

>Artist's Shit
Contents 30 gr net
Freshly preserved
Produced and tinned
in May 1961

In August 2016, at an art auction in Milan, one of the tins sold for a €275,000 (about $315,000 USD).

Side Note: I studied Art History in college, and we had to learn about these. The professor said it was to teach us that artwork should elicit an emotional response from the viewer. She was right. It made me feel disgust, nausea, and complete shock that anyone would not only create this, but that someone else would buy it. This lesson stuck with me for all the wrong reasons.
