PSA: Mac mini M6 16/256 at Microcenter for $699, $200 off MSRP

https://www.microcenter.com/product/715409/apple-mac-mini-mhqk4ll-a-(mid-2026)-desktop-computer

* USA Only
* In Person Only, will not ship
* Location dependent; check your location has stock
* No membership or etc. required

This is a really good deal for a just-released model. It’s $100 less than their deal from a week ago, and $100 less than Apple Edu pricing.

They do not have the 16/500 model on similar sale; it’s only $100 off (which still matches Apple Edu).

They do not have the M5 Pro mini marked down at all.

The M5 Max Studio offering is still available, marked down by 20%, $500, to $2000.

There are worse things than trading in the M4 16/256 mini for $565 Apple Credit and then using cash to buy this at $699.

Local Micro Center grab. 256 / 2TB

I have a 96GB on order with Apple and have Trackalaker scanning B&H for any inventory. I was pleasantly surprised to see one in stock at Micro Center online when I was browsing for something else.

This is replacing a M4 mini pro that has been running local AI models for projects we are not exposing online.

I cannot wait to get everything set up !

Microcenter: M3 Ultra 256GB 2TB 40/60 (New) back in Dallas, check your local store

$9799

Got the notification around 3:52am this morning. I already got this version a couple of weeks ago, so hoping an enthusiast is able to get one before the scalpers.

Likely more locations have them but I’m on mobile so harder to check several.

Good luck!

What are your plans for pardon my book?

Personally, I plan on just buying the audiobook and listening to it in bits and pieces whenever I caught up on the pod

Dji Neo 2 used for Track & Field speed endurance training

I'm using Dji Neo 2 follow feature to track my sprint workouts. It's been mostly reliable. It happened few times that it would loose track of me and just hang in the air while I would be running away from it 😀 but this is rare. In most cases it tracks well. This allows me to work on my sprinting form.

Settings: follow mode, mid distance, flat, position right

Microcenter Came Through

M3 Ultra | 32-Core CPU | 256 GB RAM | 1TB SSD

Managed to score this beauty a week or so ago. I’d almost given up on getting hold of one, as everything on the Apple Refurb store was getting swiped within seconds and I refuse point blank to pay scalper prices (screw you guys). Even reached out to some industry contacts (I’m in music for film and TV) but no leads there either.

Someone had mentioned getting hold of a 256GB RAM model from Microcenter on here, so I added it to the list of websites I was manually checking. One of my cats woke me up around 4am, I happened to check the Microcenter store nearest to me (based in LA so nearest store was Tustin, CA) and low and behold, they had one (1) single unit in stock. Bought it right there, picked it up about six hours later.

It’s been a crazy busy week getting it set up (I’m migrating from a gigantic old PC that handled Cubase/Vienna Ensemble Pro and an M2 Pro Mac Mini that ran Pro Tools to having everything on one system), but this machine is WILD. I have over 160GB of sampled instruments loaded into RAM, three heavy DAWs all at once (Cubase for writing and programming, Vienna Ensemble Pro for sample host and Pro Tools for picture playback and monitoring) - all that, and it barely breaks a sweat. Without doubt the single most powerful computer I’ve ever worked on, and in such a ludicrously small/quiet form factor.

Fingers crossed for everyone else out there fighting the good fight against the bots and scalpers, hopefully at some point this nonsense dies down.

Mac Studio in stock near me - worth it?

Local micro center has the following in stock - Mac Studio Z1CD0013M (Early 2025) Desktop Computer; Apple M4 Max 14-Core CPU; 36GB Unified Memory; 1TB Solid State Drive; 32-Core GPU; macOS; SDXC Memory Card Reader (UHS-II); 10Gb Ethernet; Wi-Fi 6E 802.11ax; Bluetooth 5.3 @ $2,199.99

Is it worth grabbing to run local LLM? I’d use NAS storage so not worried too much about that - but wanting to be sure I’m not kissing $2,200 away for something that doesn’t suit my needs.
