He’s pretty much the only (non canon) representation of a non-Asperger’s autistic character I’ve ever seen. Maybe I’m just biased cuz wall-e’s basically the reason I was fucking diagnosed with autism, but despite his lack of social understanding, being borderline nonverbal and his 700-year-long hyperfixations, he isn’t portrayed as “mentally handicapped” at all.

He is simply just a little guy that must be protected at all costs

Rossum's Universal Robots was a 1921 play by Karel Čapek that first coined the term “robots”. But said robots were artificial humanoid workers created from synthetic organic matter, by definition making them bio-androids or even synthetic humans. :3

Murderbot and waterbottle (friendship test) would be the bestest of friends if they met, due to a number of reasons. Their shared profound and canon autism, chronic introversion, complete lack of social skills and/or visible emotions, strong aversion to romantic/sexual/platonic relationships (and rejection of gendered pronouns), and just the general trope of an ‘emotionless’ robot absolutely jacked with weapons but chooses to reject violence and would much rather be left alone with their media. An interaction between these two would probably be them sitting on opposite sides of a room, consuming their media and ignoring each other. Which is what I assume to be both of their ideal ways of participating in ‘social interaction’. They’re so sillay :P

Contrary to my digital art, I’m actually a pretty decent pencil artist. Except I rarely make fully rendered drawings like this because they take forever and I have the attention span of an iPad kid.

GOD IT HURTS

So Friendship Test is a 10+ hr novel game with little to no gameplay and it’s the best thing i have ever witnessed in my entire life. The story starts with a little robot (FriendProgram) exploring a strange laboratory and learning about the power of friendship. But Just when you think the story is over, you realise there is something much more sinister below the cheery characters and simple artstyle.

As you progress through, it begins to surface that something is terribly wrong. Before you know it, you’re thrust into the most intense, gripping psychological horror I’ve ever seen. The storytelling and plot is utter perfection. At no point was I able to guess what would come next, and the plot twists were pulled off like no other. The way the artstyle is something you’d see in a picture book, but the story makes you question everything you’ve ever known is just incredible.

The story is about neurodiversity, mental illness and queerness. Maybe it’s just me, but as someone who experiences all three of those, that game tore me apart and put me back together multiple times. I think I experienced every emotion humanly possible while playing it (I’m generally not very emotional) but the ending got me SOBBING.

Oh yeah, and on top of that ITS ABOUT ROBOTS. THERE IS LITERALLY NOT A SINGLE HUMAN CHARACTER IN THE ENTIRE GAME. OH MY GODDDD

So if you’re neurodiverse, queer or have experienced mental illness (or suspect you are) FOR FUCK’S SAKE PLAY THIS GAME.
