I already got my iron and vitamins checked so I'm good there.

Unfortunately my nails are still very thin. After biting them for years I finally got them to grow out but I can literally fold them down to a 90 degree angle.

I'm looking for something that will actually make my natural nail harder.

Has anyone tried multiple of these and which one works best?

I hate having to remove nail polish so I was hoping for something I don't have to remove to reapply.

Inmiddels werk ik 16 jaar, waarvan de laatste 9 jaar in de ICT. Vrijwel mijn hele carrière heb ik (op kantoor) binnen de zorg gewerkt, bij verschillende zorginstellingen. Dat is me altijd goed bevallen: fijne collega's, goede leidinggevenden en een prettige werkdruk.
Een paar keer heb ik een uitstap gemaakt naar een organisatie buiten de zorg, maar dat hield ik nooit langer dan een jaar vol. Soms koos ik er zelf voor om te vertrekken, een andere keer werd mijn contract niet verlengd. Dat had verschillende oorzaken, zoals niet goed in het team passen of moeite hebben met de hogere werkdruk.

In mijn huidige functie zit ik inmiddels aan het maximum van mijn salarisschaal. Daarnaast rond ik binnenkort mijn hbo-ICT-bachelor af, die ik in deeltijd naast mijn werk heb gevolgd. Ik zou daarom graag de komende jaren een volgende stap zetten, ook financieel.
Op dit moment verdien ik €4.700 bruto per maand op basis van 36 uur, plus vakantiegeld, een eindejaarsuitkering en 6,5 week verlof. Dat is zeker geen slecht salaris, maar mijn doel is om binnen 3 à 4 jaar richting de €6.000 bruto per maand te groeien.

Toch merk ik dat ik het spannend vind om mijn vertrouwde omgeving te verlaten. Ik denk dat ik inhoudelijk een complexere functie aankan, maar ik twijfel of ik de werkdruk bij een commerciële organisatie aankan, door mijn eerdere ervaringen.

Zijn er mensen die een vergelijkbare stap hebben gemaakt? Hoe is dat bevallen en welke tips zouden jullie geven?
Ook ervaringen of tips om binnen de zorg door te groeien naar een complexere ICT-functie zijn van harte welkom.

I've lost 14 kg (about 31 lbs), going from 109 kg (240 lbs) to 95 kg (209 lbs), but I've been stuck at this weight for about six months now. During that time I've had periods where I gained a few kilos because of vacations or going out for dinner more often, but I've always managed to lose that weight again.

The weight loss happened over the course of 2,5 years, and I was happy with the slow but steady progress. After so many failed attempts in the past, I'm really proud that I've managed to keep the weight off for this long. Still, this plateau is starting to get frustrating.

I think there are two main reasons why I'm stuck:

• I've found it difficult to get back into tracking everything I eat. Part of the problem is that I often have days where I already know tracking won't be realistic because I have dinner plans or some other social event. That makes it harder to stay consistent.
• A few years ago I lost touch with a lot of my friends, so I made a conscious effort to build a new social circle. I'm really happy that I did, and I now have a much more active social life. The downside is that seeing friends often revolves around eating out, grabbing drinks, or other food-related activities. I rarely drink alcohol anymore, so that's not the issue. The harder part is choosing the healthier option when everyone else is ordering whatever they want. It also doesn't help that restaurants where I live don't list calories on their menus.

Ironically, having very few friends made losing weight much easier because I wasn't constantly surrounded by tempting food or social meals.

Has anyone else dealt with this? How do you balance an active social life with continuing to lose weight? I'd really appreciate any advice.

Wij hebben een basilicum plantje bij het tuincentrum gekocht, vervolgens alle losse plantjes uit elkaar gehaald en in meerdere potten geplant zodat er uimte was.
Ik heb de netjes teruggesnoeid tussen twee takjes zodat het verder kon groeien en een mooie volle plant zou worden. Dat heeft twee maanden geduurd en nu groeien er bloemen op de bovenste takjes. Volgens instructies heb ik weer teruggesnoeid, naar of de eerstvolgende set takjes of die eronder.
Maar deze nieuwe takjes groeien niet verder, meteen na het snoeien groeien er daar weer bloemen uit. En dat blijft gebeuren. Dit is het tweede jaar dat mij dit overkomt. Als ik nog meer afsnoei blijft er niets over.

We are from Europe and did a road trip a couple of years ago throught the USA.
It was an amazing trip and I'm a person that drinks a lot during dinner so the free refills on soda's were amazing for me.
But we noticed that when visiting bar's (where I would go up to the bar to order, no table service) and I asked for a refill I was always told that they didn't have free refills. So I had to pay again for a fountain soda drink.

Why is that?
In all situations it was a soda fountain. I understand no free refills when it's cans/bottles.

Looking for some perspective from people who sold a home at a loss. Do you regret it, or was it still the right decision?

My spouse and I bought a 100 m² (1,076 sq ft) apartment in Amsterdam in 2021 for €411,000 (~US$475,000). An identical apartment in our building sold that same year for €430,000 (~US$497,000).
In 2023, we put in a new kitchen and modernized a lot of the apartment. We're hoping to sell in the next year, but based on our calculations we'd need around €455,000 (~US$526,000) just to break even after all costs.

What worries me is that similar apartments nearby aren't selling. One in our building (same layout, but older and in worse condition) has been sitting for 5 weeks at €415,000 (~US$480,000). Another similar apartment on our street has been listed for 3 months at €425,000 (~US$491,000).

Meanwhile, I keep reading that Dutch house prices have gone up a lot since 2021, but that doesn't seem to be reflected in my neighborhood at all. I know renovations rarely pay for themselves, but I expected the upgrades and rising market to add some value.

We're getting a few agents in for valuations, but I'd love to hear from people who have actually been through this. If you sold for less than you hoped (or even took a loss) do you regret it? Or was the peace of mind and moving on worth the financial hit?

Wij zijn de laatste tijd wat huizen aan het bezichtigen. We zijn niet actief op zoek naar een woning die we direct willen kopen, maar willen vooral een beter beeld krijgen van wat we wel en niet zoeken.
Als er een woning tussen zit die echt perfect is, zouden we natuurlijk wel een bod doen.

Is het gebruikelijk om na een bezichtiging aan de makelaar te laten weten dat je geen interesse hebt? Of hoor je gewoon niets meer te doen als je geen bod wilt uitbrengen?

Ik werd vandaag na een bezichtiging gebeld door de makelaar met de vraag of we nog vragen hadden. Ik had het gevoel dat hij ook even wilde peilen of we interesse hadden. Daarom vroeg ik me af wat hierin normaal is.

Edit: Ik ga ze voortaan even informeren dat we ervan afzien en waarom. Vooral omdat het ook een goed idee is voor wanneer je de makelaar bij een volgende woning tegenkomt. Bedankt iedereen!

I'm on the board of a large apartment complex VvE in Amsterdam. At the moment, all board members are Dutch (myself included), and some of them don't speak English.

In recent years we've had more and more apartment owners join who don't speak Dutch. Attendance at our annual owners' meeting has always been relatively low, but we've noticed that many non-Dutch-speaking owners attend once and then stop coming.

Through our WhatsApp group, several owners have mentioned that they would prefer meetings to be held in English. Unfortunately, that's not a realistic option for us, as some board and VvE members are not able to participate in an English-language meeting. (and to be honest my English is great but I don't have the vocabulary to talk about finances in detail in English)

I'm wondering whether other VvEs have faced a similar situation and found a solution that works for everyone. Have you used live translation tools, bilingual meeting materials, interpreters, or any other approaches to help non-Dutch-speaking owners participate?

I'd be interested to hear what has worked (or not worked) in your meetings.

We love traveling but after a day full of exploring we just love to relax in our hotel room. Because we don't like watching local channels (hello countries who dub everything) we'd like to watch our own streaming services.
So I'm looking for a way that I can watch our streaming service from my phone (android pixel) on hotel tv's without too much hassle. What's the easiest solution that works at every hotel?

- Chromecast I've tried a couple of years ago but connecting to a different wifi every time is annoying (we only tend to stay 1-2 nights in the same place) and because the wifi is public people from other rooms can also cast to your chromecast.
- I've considered a USB-c to HDMI cable but I've heard that that doesn't work like a laptop and because of screen mirroring the resolution won't be good.

What is the best and easiest option? What have you tried and tested?

Every spring and summer my worm bin is infested with mosquito. While not harmful the bin is on my balcony and I'd like to enjoy the outside as well. Also, my neighbors have made comments about it...

I don't know what to do anymore.
I've tried putting a hemp map on top of the compost to keep the mosquito out. But the worm ended up eating the mat in weeks AND it made adding stuff to the bin/scooping the compost around a lot harder.
I'm already adding a lot of cardboard to the bin but it doesn't seem to be composting much. In the end I'll be left with compost with lots of paper through it. So I've kind of been limiting how much I add. It's still 50/50 to the amount of greens I put it.
The spout to let out the juice is perpetually open, I did that to hopefully limit the amount of wetness. But it's not really helping.

Worm seem really happy though, I have a lot, and the compost is going well.

What else can I try?

Wij zijn aan het zoeken naar een nieuwe woning en hopen dat een aankoopmakelaar meer inzicht kan geven en een meer persoonlijk advies.
Bij onze huidige woning hebben we al een aankoopmakelaar gebruikt maar die gaf niet echt een geporsonaliseerde service, enkel 'kijk maar op Funda en stuur maar waar je interesse in hebt. Ga eerst zelf bezichtigen en als je een bod wil uitbrengen laat maar weten'.

Hetgeen waar we vooral hulp bij nodig hebben is inschatten of de woning waar we een bod op willen doen overlastgevende buren/buurt heeft. Of of het daar een risico is op de toekomst.

Hoop dat iemand zijn makelaar kan aanraden! Dankjewel!

In datzelfde jaar ging een identieke woning in ons gebouw voor €430.000 weg. In 2023 hebben we de keuken vernieuwd en boel gemoderniseerd.
We willen eind dit jaar of volgend jaar verkopen. Volgens onze berekening hebben we minstens €455.000 nodig om quitte te staan.

En dan kijk ik op Funda, en wordt het stress. In mijn straat staan nu twee soortgelijke woningen te koop, allebei onder mijn break-even:

• In mijn eigen gebouw: dezelfde woning als de mijne, maar ouder en uitgewoond (was een studentenwoning) staat al 5 weken voor €415.000.
• Iets verderop: ietsje groter, maar met aflopende erfpacht staat al 3 maanden voor €425.000.

Beide verkopen dus niet snel? En ik zie wel vaker woningen de laatste tijd herplaatst worden met lagere prijzen.

Overal lees je intussen dat huizenprijzen sinds 2021 fors zijn gestegen. Maar in mijn straat lijkt die stijging volledig gepasseerd. Of ben ik te pessimistisch?
Ik weet dat een verbouwing niet altijd 1-op-1 in de prijs zit, maar ik hoopte dat de combinatie van marktstijging + onze upgrades wel íets zou opleveren.

We gaan wel makelaars langs laten komen voor een waardebepaling, maar in de tussentijd zou ik graag horen hoe anderen hier tegenaan kijken. Iemand vergelijkbare ervaring?

I'm going to be honest, I have not found a wired bra that I actually found comfortable enough that I could wear it all day. And especially on days when I'm walking a lot (20.000 steps) during vacations in hot weather I just can't be bothered. So I'm looking for wireless bra's that look good on a large chest and don't make me seem saggy. I'd love to have good vacation pictures while also being comfortable.

So I'm looking to find a wireless bra that is like a tshirt bra (no lines/patterns), isn't overly covering (I enjoy wearing v-neck and lower cut dresses in summer) and is supportive. And preferably can cover up a size difference in boobs.

Does this holy grail even exist?

I'm a 80I in Freya Deco and I've been to a professional large busted lingerie store but came out empty there.
I've tried the sugar candy ones but I found them to be too covering and I couldn't wear my favorite dresses with it.
Tried the Uniqlo 3D Hold bra but the largest cup size wasn't big enough.
Tried the Snag Everyday Ribbed Bra, and it is supportive but the shape it's giving me is just horrible.
Tried a couple from local Dutch brands, but still, not big enough cup size.
Considering Cosabella but their Curvy line also doesn't seem to have large enough cup sizes?
Wearing a CK bralette at home for comfort but it gives me horrible support.

At this point I don't know what to do and I can't go through another summer being uncomfortable in a wired bra or having horrible pictures in another wireless thing.

ABTF then says I'm a 85K but at the professional large bust lingerie store they fit me in a 85I.
But oftentimes I find that while the size is correct it doesn't say anything about comfortability. Like if the wires are poking you in the side because you have extra skin/fat there. I also have a belly that presses up at any wires when I sit down and makes anything long-line roll up.
