3-day old takeaway pasta okay to eat??

I just ate some pasta with meat sauce that was in the fridge in a white takeaway container. It smelled, looked, and tasted fine. But then my brother informed me that it had been in the fridge since Wednesday night. It is now Sunday afternoon. Am I gonna be okay??

"The Reformatory" by Tananarive Due

I'm really liking this book so far!! I'm almost halfway done with it, and I often can't wait until I'm done with a book to talk about it lol. Without just coming out and saying it and/or inviting spoilers...I have certain suspicions about Blue's character and what they're leading up to with him based on things he's saying, the way he's acting, the way others are interacting--or should I say, NOT interacting with him. Am I on the right track?? It's not ruining anything for me, I'm absolutely finishing the book.

Also, what did ya'll think of Robert Stephens, Sr? I like how fleshed out all the characters are, and how they're not generic or easy to figure out; I'm having a hard time respecting Robert's strong sense of justice and activism and being part of something bigger than himself while he leaves his motherless children to essentially raise themselves. But again, the conflict is why I'm really enjoying each character so far. Very well written, the story, the backdrop, the descriptions. I'm excited to keep going! Did ya'll like the book??

Does anyone wonder sometimes how much good we're actually doing?

I've seen several posts lately in certain subs from several commenters expressing their frustrations with therapy as a profession, and that they feel it's redundant, nothing you can't do on your own when you get right down to it, and calling therapists soulless for taking money from people just to nod and teach them how to take deep breaths. While that's certainly an over-simplification, how do you feel when you read or hear things like this? I agree that therapy is not a "one size fits all" thing, and that therapy isn't the "cure" for every problem, but sometimes I do struggle with imposter syndrome, self doubt, and wondering what exactly it is I'm doing for clients. I know a sub rule is "no anti-therapy talk" and I hope this doesn't come across that way, it's not my intention at all. I guess I'm just in my head today.

Experiences with CreditFresh?

Yes, I'm an idiot, I was in a really bad place a few months ago and took out a $2,500 line of credit with CreditFresh. I am in a better place now financially and I'm going to start making payments again, but they'll be smaller than the minimum demand. If it gets to the point where that's not good enough and they're going to tank my credit or take me to court, I won't let it get that far, but I'm wondering, what is ya'lls experience with CreditFresh as far as how litigious they actually are? Are they lkely to sue?

At home care for a rotten wisdom tooth until I can get it pulled?

My upper left wisdom tooth is in bad shape. It’s completely dead, slowly rotting, needs to come out, and I have an appointment to get it pulled in August. Unfortunately, due to financial reasons, it’s just not possible to get it done quicker. It is starting to throb just a bit. I knew it would only get worse, but I was hoping to keep pain and infection at bay for just a bit longer—at least until August. What are some things I can do at home to manage pain and keep it from getting infected for a couple more months?? 35F.

What is an aspect of the profession that you think the general public misunderstands or has an incorrect perception of?

I'm shortening the whole story to be concise, but I got into a discussion with someone online who asked the boundaries and parameters around confidentiality. I replied that while certain things vary by state, in general, I cannot break confidentiality unless in cases of imminent risk of harm to self or others, and gave a couple of standard examples of this. This person then asked about what happens if the person confesses to a past crime. I answered that unless the crime involved a minor or someone legally defined as a vulnerable population, or unless there was an present, current, imminent risk to self or others, I am not expected to or allowed to report, even if the crime involved past harm to someone else.

I was called every name under the sun by multiple people who think that morals should come before ethics, and that I'm a crappy person and a horrible therapist for following ethics and putting the client first. I said that while I understood the frustration, we as a society have agreed that in general, people should be able to tell their healthcare providers things. I was then compared to a N*zi by several people for "just following orders." I think a lot of people, because of tiktok and pop psychology, don't always see how "gritty" and dark this field can be. I--and I'm sure many here have as well--have worked with people who have done terrible things during active substance addiction, prisoners, and people who are not always sweet, palatable, or particularly likable. Mental health isn't always pretty. That doesn't mean they don't deserve care, treatment, and respect. I also don't want to lose my license, and was baffled at how many people tried to make me feel guilty for choosing my professional ethics over my own personal feelings lol.

What character/s do you feel like wouldn't have been as popular or likeable if not for the actor/atress?

I feel like Lennie's character in the wrong hands could've easily just been a crabby, generic, old school type jackass who is more of a hindrance than anything. Because let's be real, Lennie ain't running after anybody lol. But in Orbach's talented hands, Lennie could be jaded, lean too old school, and a bit lazy, but he was also witty, sharp, incredibly street smart, empathetic, and still quite charming and hopeful underneath the wisecracking grizzle. I really loved how iconic Lennie became.

Anyone else slightly bothered by how much Olivia has overstepped with victims over the years?

I typically overall love Liv even despite these Saint Olivia years we’ve fallen into, but one thing that irks me is how persistent she often was and is with getting victims to cooperate, getting them to decide to testify or file a report to begin with, etc. It’s almost always portrayed as a good thing because the victim almost always comes around eventually, but some of her relentless borderline harassment of the victims is a little obsessive and creepy. I totally understand that a lot of victims knee-jerk response is to shut down and just avoid it, and that Olivia is just trying to help them see past that, but there have been several times where I’ve been like “Damn woman, leave them the hell alone, shit.” 🙃🥲 Seems icky to harass a victim who needs to regain their sense of autonomy, even if you don’t agree with their decision.

I am fully aware that loving animals while not being vegan makes me a hypocrite...and I'm okay with that?

Title, basically. I've accepted that I'm a hypocrite for eating meat while also saying that I care about animals. I'm okay with that. Whether or not that makes me a bad person, idk, but I am aware of my cognitive dissonance and have no desire to fix it. I fully admit I'm a hypocrite in this particular area.

Do y’all feel like the tides and social perception of therapy is due for a dip soon?

Therapy has become extremely popular and trendy in recent years, and absolutely boomed during Covid. But I feel like as pop psychology, TikTok psychology, boundaries, and the clinical purpose and expectations of therapy becomes more muddied and bastardized, we’re due for a period of adjustment, disruption, criticism, and backlash as people become more and more neurotic and obsessed with therapy and over pathologizing themselves. I’m sure we’ll course correct again, but I do wonder if we’re going to experience a major pendulum swing in the other direction any time soon.

Most obvious/egregious examples of “first-person bias” you’ve come across?

What are your favorite general examples and specific stories across this website of first person bias, where it is so outrageously obvious that the only reason the OP is getting so much support is because they’re the one telling the story, and that the commenters would absolutely recognize the OP as the villain if we were hearing another perspective of the situation? I feel that was with a lot of the wedding shaming stories; when it’s the bride posting, it’s “It’s your special day, so you set the rules and get to do whatever you want!” but when it’s a guest or member of the wedding party posting, it’s “Wow, what a bridezilla—getting married doesn’t mean you get to act that way!”

What is the most egregious example you can think of of "The writers have clearly never met a human child and have no idea how they're supposed to act/talk at the age they're trying to portray."

What is your favorite "off screen" dialogue/joke?

It's a small moment, but there's a scene where Stan shoots multiple bullets up into the ceiling, and a few minutes later in a moment of silence, you just hear Roger's muffled "OW" from up in the attic lol.

And another Roger one, from the selling leggings episode where Hayley and Jeff mention that the money Jeff spent was their life savings, you just hear Roger upstairs respond "Ha ha!"

I'm a sucker for little moments and jokes like that.
