Looking for fantasy stories where the mystery reveal does not 'shrink' the world.

The rec can be anything, book, anime, comic, video game, as long as the story fits my criteria.

I will try to explain what I mean the best I can, first two examples of what I do NOT like:

Game of Thrones starts with the scene with the Others and the Night's Watch. I had all these questions and theories, what are Others, where do they come from, who and what is the Night King? Then it turns out he was just a random human turned into the NK by the Children of the Forest, and the Others are just ice zombies. -> This only applies to the show, but as of now the book is not finished so...

In attack on titan, I had so many ideas and was very interested about the wall, the origin of the titans and the outside world. Then it turned out that the outside world is some ww2 level bs and the titan and wall origin story was quite nonsense in my opinion. It all started with some Stockholm syndrome slave not being able to let go, and the titans were just humans injected with a serum.

So basically, I am not looking for mystery fantasy, but it just needs to have a mystery element about the world. Such as the wall in both GoT and AoT, and the titans/others.

The feeling I got at the start of both of these series, is that there is something ancient, something alien in the world. The titans, the others, the giant walls. Something more grand than humanity. I am basically looking for stories that, when they reveal the mystery about the world and certain monsters, it does not shrink the world down to something more human, like the two examples I used. I want to keep having a sense of wonder even after the reveal, if it that wonder is smaller. I am even fine with not all questions being answered.

Hopefully I could explain it well, and would appreciate any recommendation.

Can a central mystery ever live up to the expectation set up by at the start of the story?

This might be a me only issue, but maybe I can get some advice that helps.

I can't think of a single story, fantasy or otherwise that had a huge focus on mystery that lived up to the expectations set at the start.

For example Game of Thrones starts with the scene with the Others and the Night's Watch. I had all these questions and theories, what are Others, where do they come from, who and what is the Night King? Then it turns out he was just a random human turned into the NK by the Children of the Forest, and the Others are just ice zombies.

I used these two examples, because they are the most popular shows with a strong mystery element, but in both cases I was very disappointed, and none of them lived up to what I expected to happen at the start.

This made me wonder, is it even possible to write a fantasy story with a strong mystery focus that lives up to the hype set up? Or is it best to just not explain certain things, and let the reader imagine their own version? Like if they did not explain the origin of the walls in attack on titan, just let everyone make up their own version.

[Spoilers MAIN] Why didn't previous Targaryens go north of The Wall?

I am reading a bit of lore on the wiki, and it was mentioned that both Aegon the Conqueror and Viserys knew about the prophecy regarding the others and the Night King. So why did they not go and burn everything up north?

Sure, WHEN the threat would come was not known, but they could have did a preventive strike? Why wait and let so many things go wrong if you can do it now?

How much does moving delay my FIRE plans?

The one thing I am looking to upgrade atm is the apartment I am renting. It is still the same studio I'm in since a student. Goal would be both to move cities and go from 1.5 to 2.5 rooms, this would increase my costs by about 6-8k a year. Which is a LOT.

Current rent: 800 in SG, I'm expecting around 1500-1600 in about 30min distance of Zürich. So the extra cost - tax savings should be about 6-8k more per year if I'm correct.

My current NW (broker, 2. pillar, 3. pillar) is about 180k, I am contributing 50k a year, so this would drop down to 42-44k. I am afraid it will be a huge delay to my FIRE plans. The calculations don't back this up, but psychologically it is still a big drop, about 17% less contribution per year sounds a lot.

I was thinking of hitting 200-300k NW first, or waiting for a job switch with a higher salary before moving, not sure if Im being reasonable or too cautious.

EDIT: FIRE target with 4% is 1-2M CHF. I know it's a very wide range, but I have options to relocate to cheaper places if I can't stand work any longer. My current expenses are 30k~ a year. (36-38k after moving apartments) So the 1,5- 2M CHF would be a very comfortable retirement in CH, anything less I would most likely move.

Is it possible to recreate my save file from PS to PC

I have the game on both platforms, and I was wondering if I could continue my save on PC? Basically I have everything unlocked in first playthrough, and just started NG+ on PS5.

I'm aware the PS5 save file is not compatible with Steam, but is it possible to use Cheat Engine for this? Unlock all and then put my playthrough to ng+? Is there even a working CE for GoT?

I am going for all trophies, and would like to continue it on PC.

Acropolis and Poseidon Temple, best options?

I will be in Athens around early September, and 2 things I would like to visit are the Acropolis and the Poseidon Temple, but need help with a few things.

1, What would be the best time for the Acropolis, very early morning, straight at open, or evening 6-7PM? In terms of crowd, views etc.

2, Is there reliable public transport to the temple, where I can do the sunset view, or it's better to buy one of these guided tours, that stop at several different places? If yes, which of these tours would be the best?

Questions about this series

1, So, I know that there are 2 series, the OVA, which adapts the 1.3.4. volumes and has an original ending, and then a 27ep series, which ends with a different set of characters?

My question is, in what order and how should I watch these, if I only acre about the Lodoss main story?

2, I had this show on my list for a long time, but recently I came across some info which I didn't like too much. Basically in an other work from the author, it is shown that Parn is dead, and Deedlit lives forever alone afterwards. This is pretty shitty. Can this be ignored? How much of this is hinted in the main work?

Honestly, after watching grancrest senki, I am a bit worried to watch an other work from the same author, as that one was not well written. And I know the anime was rushed, but my issues with the work could not be fixed by simply the non rushed version.

Question about the book, FF15: Dawn of the Future.

So, I never played ff15, but I know what happens in the story more or less, and also saw the animated/CGI movie of it.

I just found out that some DLCs were cancelled because the director left, which is a weird reason imo, the team could still have finished them, but w/e.

So my question is, can I read the book without playing the game? Because I'm really not interested in some tragedy slop, and would just read the book which has the happy ending.

Cantons/Municipalities around Zürich for good rent+tax costs.

I hope this is on topic, since my question and focus is on the financial aspects of the real estate market.

I currently live in SG, renting a studio for 800 (850 if I count the extra nebenkosten I have to pay every 6 months).

While my work is mostly remote(Zürich), but for social and future work related reasons I would like to move somewhere within 30-40min of Zürich, and would also like to upgrade to a 2.5 room.

My salary is currently 104k a year, so I am wondering what are the cheapest options in terms of tax+rent. My only requirement is for a medium-ish town/city, so there is a decent gym, all grocery stores and a good range of restaurants. E.g: Aaragu-Suhr-Lenzburg-Baden etc.

I would like to avoid paying 5-6k more a year compared to now if possible. But looking at the cities I mentioned, rent is 1.4-1.5k minimum for a 2.5 room, which would mean an extra 500 a month (700~diff -200 a month I would save on taxes).

Any advice and response is appreciated.

New to webtoons, few questions

1, Just have a few questions regarding the medium. My first title is Dare I Hope, and I know this is a web-novel adaptation, but what are most webtoons adapted from? Or is it mostly originals with a few web novel adaptations?

2, I'm not sure if there is any difference between webtoons and manhwa, or webtoons ARE manhwa? But I guess it is a very Korean dominated site? (referring to the green webtoon site) at least most artists and authors are Korean, from the few I checked out?

3, This is a more technical question, which would you say is harder to draw, webtoons or manga or US comics? From an artist's perspective, which is more effort, if any is ?

Staying for 3 nights, and areas to avoid?

ANY* in the title. My bad.

I am reading a lot of posts about avoiding Guillotière and Terreaux, but how bad is it? What is the 'danger' that these older posts mention?

We are 2 friends (both guys) going for a long weekend as tourists, we will probably not use the metro and just walk around. Most of the airbnbs are these 2 areas that I mentioned, and they also seem to be in the city center, so I wonder if it would be a terrible idea to book a place there or not. I got a bit worried about all these previous posts, but none of them elaborate about why they are dangerous, so I would appreciate some advice regarding this.

When does REGA waive the fees for patrons?

I understand that the 40CHF is a donation, they have no legal obligation to waive the fees. I do appreciate their work, and I will be a patron anyways, but I am just curious how the fee waiving works. I also know that they only do it if the health insurance does not cover it.

So when does it happen, and when do you have to pay? I guess if I am stupid enough to go up a snowy mountain barefoot then I have to pay the full cost. Injuries and emergencies I guess are waived from what I heard?

But what about sickness, such as extreme headache in the middle of a long hike? Or if I slip and injure myself? Do these count as careless stupid mistakes? Like, nothing too serious if it was in a different location (middle of a city), but it also prevent someone from going on for a few more hours in the mountains?
