Midflight tapas are really good!

First time trying the midflight tapas (braised beef cheeks w pumpkin puree and kung pao chicken) on TPE SFO. I was impressed how good these were - way better than the main meal services by a long shot which are comparatively boring.

What’s the cheapest possible emerald status?

Looking to move away from BA gold status since it got a lot more expensive to keep this past year - any idea what the cheapest emerald status is?

So far I’ve landed on Malaysia Airlines platinum with the AmBank visa card (free) to qualify with 98 elite points, and flying LAX PHL SJU for USD$787 round trip three times for $2381 to get 96 elite points, plus any short economy round trip to get the 98 needed for status. Total cost about $2500.

Anyone able to think of anything cheaper or should I pull the trigger on this?

Stacking foreign cards for more elite nights?

Curious to hear if anyone has had success stacking US and foreign Marriott cards to get more than 40 elite nights (25 from Brilliant/15 business).

I recently picked up the UK debit card and that did stack, but wondering if there are other opportunities to get north of 50 ENCs annually without big spend.

Using HeyMax to book Singapore Airlines savers

Haven't seen this discussed widely here, so figured I would share it. HeyMax recently launched a SQ award search tool, and in my experience has been the most useful tool currently available for searching Singapore Airlines Saver award space across a range of dates.

It works through the HeyMax chrome extension while you are logged into your own Singapore Airlines account. You enter a route and date range, and HeyMax searches SQ awards directly from your account, displaying the results as a pricing heatmap. Instead of manually checking one date at a time, the extension searches a selected date range and displays award availability and pricing in a heatmap across the available cabins. It effectively automates the searches you would otherwise conduct manually on Singapore Airlines’ website.

Another major advantage is that it searches live SQ inventory directly from your account, so it also accounts for increased space open to PPS/solitaire members which no other award search tools do. Instead of relying on cached results which can be outdated given how competitive awards are, it conducts searches through your own account, using the live availability returned by SQ when the search is performed.

Why SQ award space is difficult to search:

Like BA and Qatar, Singapore airlines is a difficult website to scrape, and its award search tool limits you to a single route and availability +- 3 days.

Third party tools they may only see award seats SQ releases to partner programs such as Aeroplan, United, or Virgin Atlantic, which isn't always same inventory available to SQ members.

SQ can release additional Saver space exclusively to KrisFlyer, while partner programs may see fewer seats, different flights, or no availability at all. While partner searches are useful, aren't reliable substitute for searching KrisFlyer directly.

As of late July 2026, seats aero live search doesn't seem to work, while the new Singapore Airlines finder only displays expensive advantage awards.

Step 1: Install the HeyMax Chrome extension

Install the extension from the chrome store and sign into your HeyMax account. The feature is part of the desktop chrome extension, rather than as a standalone award search website.

Step 2: Log into Singapore Airlines

Open the Singapore Airlines website and log into your KrisFlyer account normally. You enter your login info directly on the SQ website.

Step 3: Enter your search

Select:

  • Origin
  • Destination
  • Date range
  • Number of passengers
  • Class

Run the search and allow the extension to work through your chosen dates. The results are displayed as a heatmap, making it much easier to identify dates with lower priced saver inventory rather than clicking repeatedly through the 1 week search calendar.

MNL connection with terminal transfer

Will be flying in from United (T3) and then connecting onto PAL T1 with a 2h 15 connection, with my bag through checked on the separate tickets. I know I will be able to make it through just fine, but is 2h 15 min enough for the bags? I know that the international to international min connect time in different terminals is 2h.

Best PvE legendary auto rifles?

What are the best auto rifles for each element?

So far I've been using the VS pyroelectric propellant for arc, zealous ideal/ringing nail for solar, and either age old bond for void all with splash perks, but haven't found any good kinetic slot options.

Any recommendations? Open to raid weapons, but don't really play PvP.

Heirloom builds?

Finally got Heirloom after 72 equilibrium runs (8 triumphs), anyone have some fun builds to share with it. So far really love the look and feel, but struggling a bit to find a viable build for it - is it even viable for endgame activities other than the easy dungeons/raids like VoG/Crota?

Lufthansa First Class awards are back!

Was looking for a flight from LAX to NCE for this summer, and was pleasantly surprised to see that LH first class awards are via partners, but so far it looks like only United shows space for 165k, which is a good bit more than the 120/100k space AC/AV used to have.

I have to say, Aeroplan has been grossly devalued over the past 2 years, losing access to so many of the partner awards that made it valuable on top of pricing devaluations to the awards chart, especially for United flights.

Philippine Airlines Information for Award Travelers

Hey guys, currently in MNL and wanted to share some info I got from some friends at PAL holdings. I want to stress that this is still up in the air, and was shared informally over dinner, so take it with a grain of salt, but this is the overall direction they are looking to move:

Logistics

  • The aim is to fully join within 12 months, and launch reciprocal awards + mileage earning by June 30, 2027. If you know anything about doing business in the Philippines, expect this timeline to slip.
  • The infrastructure for partners redeeming PR awards is already there, as QF/QR have access and NH previously did
  • The infrastructure for redeeming PR miles on partners isn't fully there, and they will start out like Finnair with a few partners initially for online redemption, the rest requiring a phone call. The goal is to make all OW partners open for online redemption eventually .
  • PR only has 2 status tiers beyond base, and these will map to Ruby/Sapphire.
  • There are plans to introduce a 3rd status tier to map to Emerald, and the plan is for it to require between 65 and 80k status miles. This will make it similar to AS Platinum and AY Platinum in terms of difficulty to attain.
  • Million miler will map to Sapphire, and there will be a new 2 million tier introduced which will be emerald. This will become the lowest barrier to entry for lifetime Emerald.
  • Eventually all OW airlines will move into a single terminal at the new Bulacan airport, but there are no plans to consolidate at NAIA. PR is split across T1/2 and T3 which houses JAL/QR/CX is not big enough to accommodate PR + all of OW. Unfortunately interline connections at MNL will continue to be an absolute pain.
  • On the bright side, there are plans to offer a Finnair platinum wing style lounge at Bulacan to entice OW elite business travelers to choose PR over CX/JL. Look to the new first meridian lounge for a guide of potential quality to come.
  • PR has talked to AA about launching DFW, but the economics are unlikely to work due to the most diaspora mostly being in Houston, and AA will not fly LAX MNL given upcoming competition from DL. PR has also talked to AS about replacing their SEA flight with an AS one to free up an A350 for ORD, and that is much more likely to happen once AS has the aircraft to fly it, as AS is much stronger in SEA than AA is in LAX.

Why OW vs *A/ST?

  • OW offered the best access to the markets where PAL's highest yield routes are, specifically to the middle east to support OFWs, Australia for holiday/OFW, and the visiting friends and relatives traffic to the US. London is a key destination PR wants to relaunch, but given the relatively low yield of MNL passengers, they need the extra feed from BA to make it work.
  • *A dragged their feet on membership because of UA offering nonstop competition on SFO and BR/NH viewing PAL as competition since they carry a lot of connecting traffic from MNL to the US. CX did not share this view as PAL is decidedly less premium and does not compete well in their US to SE Asia/China connecting business.
  • Delta did not want PAL as competition for their LAX MNL service, and was actively pushing DOT to force PAL to give DL a better MNL slot in exchange for their ORD service. Suffice to say their relationship is hostile.

Awards

  • The current Mabuhay award chart will be nerfed post joining OW and they are looking to Alaska as a model to follow - a program that offers solid, but not crazy outsize value as an incentive for credit card spend.
  • This will coincide with their goals to pick up one or more major transferrable currencies and launch a US credit card. There have been discussions with Citi/Amex/C1/Chase/Wells Fargo, but nothing has materialized yet.
  • Their current award chart is built around organically earned miles and from their local cards, which don't earn particularly well, so the chart will be remapped to fit the economics of a transferrable currency. The current west/east coast pricing is 58/67k miles for J, and that would make it the cheapest TPAC option by far - not sustainable for a 1:1 transferrable currency at the prices that banks would buy their points. Expect a TPAC floor of 70k+.
  • Fuel surcharges are here to stay, and will be around $200 for long haul J awards as they are now.
  • Future partner award space will be a subset of space that is open to Mabuhay miles - currently this isn't the case as QR/QF appear to have the same availability, so this will be a material downgrade.
  • It's also undecided if the new award chart will be segment based or region based given the goal with the new airport is to better support a connecting network taking advantage of their low labor costs.

CSR Return Protection

Anyone have experience with CSR return protection that you could share? First time using the benefit for a TUMI suitcase that's outside of the return window that I'm unhappy with.

Does Chase require you to ship the item back to them at your expensive? Seems costly for something like a check in luggage

2026 Partner Earn Rates

Has there been an official date announced yet for when the new partner issued ticket earnings structure will be live? Would love to credit some JAL flights from SE Asia but only getting 125% of distance is a horrible deal compared to crediting to AA or even BA.

AA blocking close in partner awards…

https://onemileatatime.com/news/american-blocking-domestic-saver-awards-close-departure/

Saw this article earlier and it looks like AA is blocking nonstop partner awards less than 144 hours out. I used to rely on AA for easy transcon awards last minute, but it seems like that’s going away except for direct bookings, and AA pricing floor seems to a lot higher than it used to be.

It also seems like AA has a close in booking penalty, as I’m seeing J awards for JFK LAX price at 51k for next 5 days, 46.5k for the next 5, and 42k after that with a floor of 40k. That’s a lot worse than Finnair where transcon J is a flat rate 27/40k for J/F.

It’s also a huge nerf to Alaska miles because now the cheap 4.5k short haul awards on a route like LAX SFO or JFK BOS have to be booked 6 days out, which kills a lot of usefulness for a business traveler like me.

Plus Points are Amazing!!!

In Manila now for a work trip and needed to book a flight home - saw that UA is selling saver economy tickets for only 32.8k miles, and now that awards are upgradable, I was able to confirm an upgrade to Polaris for only 40 PP!

It's just mind boggling to me that there are ways to fly Polaris 7000 miles for the price of a domestic economy YN ticket

PIN code for Apple Pay abroad?

Tried using my Bilt Palladium via Apple Pay for a HAFH hotel in China (which are all pay at property I guess?). The POS asked for a PIN which I set up on the spot, but it didn’t work.

Had to check in with another card, but don't want to lose the $300 of credits by not paying via the Bilt card. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Cardless support was useless and just told me the pin I set should work instantly, which it clearly didn't....

Appreciate any advice anyone can share.

Emergency Medical Success!

First time using the emergency medical benefit and pleasantly surprised how easy it was to use. I got injured hiking in Bali and was hospitalized for a few days and the total hospital bill was about $4500.

Chase covered $2500 of the bill and my travel insurance plan ($2500 deductible). I had to submit flight ticket (one way was fine), card statement, medical report, denial of primary coverage, and receipt - Chase didn’t require that I paid the hospital with the CSR.

Overall really impressed with the benefit, the whole process was easy and lasted 3 weeks end to end with 2 follow up document requests.

China Cash Declaration Process

Going to Shanghai today and have about USD 7800 that I am bringing on my trip. I saw that China requires foreigners to declare amounts over USD 5000, does anyone have experience to share on the process, whether they ask for documentation of the source of funds, etc.?

Appreciate any advice the group has to share

When logged into the Chase app, are the cards listed in explore more products -> credit cards pre approved offers? Looking to pick up the Hyatt card but don’t see a specific pre approval tool for it, so wondering if this is it.
