CSE Core vs CSE (AI & ML) – Which branch should I choose in 2026?
Hi everyone,
I'm joining BTech this year and have the option to choose between CSE Core and CSE (AI & ML).
My goal is to get a good software engineering job (SDE) after graduation. I'm also interested in AI/ML, but I don't want to limit my opportunities if companies prefer CSE Core.
A few questions:
- Is there any difference in placements between CSE Core and AIML?
- Do companies allow AIML students to sit for all CSE placements?
- Is AIML too specialized compared to CSE Core?
- Which branch would you choose if your goal is maximum career flexibility?
- Any seniors who graduated from AIML—did you face any disadvantages during internships or placements?
College is a private university in India, and both branches have almost the same syllabus in the first year.
Would appreciate advice from students, graduates, or recruiters. Thanks!
