Potential Serious Flaw With Penitent Engines

The Sisters are an army I have a lot of interest in and will definitely be something I look to build in the future. As such, I've been reading up on them, but I've noticed a flaw that probably wasn't given much second thought by GW because of "rule of cool." I highly doubt I'm the first person to think of this, but maybe it was expanded upon somewhere and I missed it.

The subjects of penitent engines can range from criminals and heretics to other sisters whom the Orders Militant felt weren't up to the task or weren't pious enough. The crueler variant, the Mortifier seems to be reserved specially for sisters whom the Orders felt needed more severe punishment like Repentia and novitiates who fail their duties or sisters who committed crimes against the Order.

The thing is, sisters can end up hooked to these machines for rather ridiculous reasons, so what prevents some of these sisters from having "bouts" friendly fire against those who put them there? I know the sisters are so hyper-indoctrinated that some of them truly believe that they deserve such punishments even for something mundane, but let’s look at the example of that novitiate from that Warhammer plus animation. Long story short, a novitiate accidentally killed another novitiate in a training exercise, and was sent on a mission with her Palatine and some other sisters to redeem herself. The mission was completed, but the novitiate was the only one who survived. She was then put in the mortifier because a superior sister who was assessing her simply didn't like her (using her killing another novitiate as an excuse) and there was no one else of equal or higher rank to vouch for her. She felt betrayed and treated unfairly, but could do nothing more than beg and shout futilely as her sisters dragged her into the machine to suffer one of the worst fates imaginable in this universe.

Imagine being confined to a machine where you can't move, you can't scream, you can't hear, with it also being programmed to constantly inflict immense pain to you while simultaneously keeping you alive for as long as possible. Imaging being strapped to machine that's main purpose is to make you hate yourself every second of your miserable existence. Imagine being strapped to a machine that prevents you from killing yourself to end the suffering. Imagine feeling betrayed by the sisters that you thought had your back, and now you see them proudly killing enemies within their power armor while you have to suffer the humiliation of being strapped to a machine that makes your life a living hell. Surely, that would make some of them snap right? I surely would if I were in that position. They can't really give you a worse punishment than being strapped to a penitent engine or mortifier.

Maybe I missed something because the potential for those in these engines to retaliate against those who put them in there is a little to high to not really put any serious consideration into it.

Question about Stormcast Eternal Respawns

Is there anything that causes some to respawn more than others? Can some revive more often than others before ultimately becoming demented? Do certain things, like being killed by a daemon, undead, or warpstone affect how much damage their soul takes compared to being killed by an Ogre or Ork?

While I’m sure the answer to this is based on whether certain SCE have plot armor, are named characters, are helmetless, etc., are there generally things that affect how many times and how quickly SCE can respawn? Admittedly, I’m a bit behind on AOS lore because of busyness and having a library backlog. Any answers or books that talk about this will be helpful.

Question about Daemonic Possession in AOS & Old World

If Daemons can easily manifest themselves in the world(s) of AOS & Old World, why is daemonic possession much less common in these settings compared to 40K, where it is much more difficult for daemons to manifest themselves?

Does anyone know who created this art?

I saw this on fantasy flight’s website for one of their Dark Heresy supplements about the Sisters of Battle. I haven’t had any success finding out who the artist is.

Witchblade: Lost Generation Translation

Hey everyone. The translation is complete and can be found here:

https://archive.org/details/wb-translation-copy

Notes:

  1. The translation and wording in the first two chapters might seem a little rougher compared to the later chapters because a less refined translation software was used then. It's also possible that some things were lost in translation as sentences often had to be completely modified to make them compatible with English grammar and syntax.
  2. The color of Yuri's hair in her armored form is described as violet in this translation to match the art provided in the book. In the actual Japanese text though, her hair color was described as being red.

Light Novel Archived

The raw scan of the light novel has been put on the Internet Archive. If you search for it you will find it. I'm still working on the translation, but from there anyone can translate it at their own pace.

Light Novel Translation Update

Hello everyone, I just want to give a little update on the state of the light novel translation. I’m about 50% done. I’m currently on vacation, and intended to finish translating during my time off, but I forgot the pack the damn book and only realized it once I boarded the plane (🤦‍♂️).

Once I get back, I’ll start again. Things have been going at a much slower pace than I’d like because of how busy I get at times, but I assure y‘all that I am still working on it. I’m also considering scanning the raw pages so people can also translate it themselves if they’d like.

Lore-related Question About Daemonettes for a Daemon Prince Homebrew

*The first 2 pictures are scenes from the ending of the chaos dlc for Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2. The last 8 pictures are from the manga Berserk and are pertinent to my question about Daemonettes.

I have an idea for a Black Legion daemon prince homebrew where said demon prince has a harem of Daemonettes and cultists that he pretty much orders around to go infiltrate and seduce various imperial nobles, priests, and officers in order to learn imperial secrets and tactics that can then be used as intel for future mobilizations and the furthering of the Long War.

I’m using the first 2 pictures as the justification for the harem, and the last 8 as examples of how the daemonettes would go about doing their work, since daemonettes can change their appearance to resemble what one most desires using psychic glamours and whatnot. My question is: are any examples of daemonettes doing anything resembling what is seen in the last 8 pictures in 40K literature? I don’t want to stray too far from something not established in 40K. If there is, please tell me where I can read about it.

While this more for for justifying having an army of daemonettes led by said daemon prince for some casual narrative battles, I think it could also be interesting idea for a Black Crusade campaign if it will allow it. I have the core rules, but haven’t fully read them yet.
