If you're thinking of going to thousand acre, good luck

Every parking place is full. It's like trying to find free street parking at an event. Drove through twice, cars in bus spots. But there's turnover.

Anyone recommend a good dog wash and grooming place?

I have an 86 lb golden retriever who has an irresistible draw to composting mud. I bathed him in the yard with a hose to get rid of the mud, but he still holds the funk.

I usually take him to Pup Scrub, but they have a 2 week wait minimum for the woman who usually does him, even longer for the other groomers. They do a great job, but always a long wait for an appointment. I have Dupuytren's contracture on my hands, so washing him myself isn't a great idea.

Does anyone know of a place or groomer that does a good job and isn't a long wait? Has anyone used a mobile groomer? If so, any recommendations? With tip, his wash and groom comes to around $150. Is this the price range for a mobile groomer?

Anyone want free mint?

I was growing mint to make wine, that delicious mint yogurt sauce/dip, and tea. Newbie mistake of not planting it in pots. I moved the plants out of the raised veggie bed last year into pots, leaving some outside the wooden frame.

In the past couple weeks it's back in the organic raised planting bed, tall and healthy. I'm not ready to make wine yet, so am looking to give it away.

Either leafy stalks or even rooted plants. DM me if interested.

How is Cold Fusion a bad thing?

The plot is treating cold fusion as if they were creating an airborne virus capable of targeting specic DNA.

We're already using fission which produces nuclear waste which likely will outlast us.

Fusion waste radioactive decay lasts about 100 years. It's a cleaner source of energy. Whoever is able to perfect this is a slam dunk for a Nobel prize. Not to mention if they patent it, they will have enough money to make Bezos and Musk look like paupers by comparison. For as long as the patent lasts.

So how does this plot line make any sense? Cullum and Sidwell and even the late Faison are bad guys, but what they are trying to achieve is no different than what's going on in many labs

TIL about postpartum incontinence

Never knew that was a thing, to the point of women having to wear not only pads, but anti leak underwear. That's horrifying!

Here you are, continuing the species, and that's your reward? Intelligent design my a$$!

Any giveaway events?

Anyone know of any giveaway events? I moved from SE to Boring. Nobody picks up this far out, and I'm at the end of a butte, so no traffic for a free pile.

Overheard at Walgreens "Expelliamus"

Two twenty-somethings sharing a shopping cart. One comes up with some things to put in the cart, including a laxative. The guy with the cart looks over the new stuff and tells him that he doesn't need that. He just has to concentrate really hard on the word "Expelliamus". Works every time. The other guy gives him a long-suffering look, shakes his head and goes back down the aisle.

The Cooper's phone number

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but if you call (409) 356-6049, you get the Cooper answering machine message with the family and Sheldon.

IDL that I just paid $1.12/gallon more for gas than last year

I found a receipt for a year ago, $3.69/gal. I just got gas a couple days ago, $5.11/gal.

Whose great idea was it to pick a fight with the Middle East? And to tie American gas prices to the OPEC price?

I think Isabella would have been a good match for Raj

She only appeared in one episode but I think she would have been good for him. His parents wouldn't have been happy, but then again they weren't happy with his choices anyway.

Move back to my hometown or stay in the same town I'm in

TL;DR stay in Oregon or move back to Staten Island?

Family I rent from in Oregon is going to be selling where they retire and moving out of the US.

If I stay: starting to make friends here, there are large parks where dogs can walk unleashed. The indoor/outdoor cat is a senior and where I next live has a good prospect of him being able to be outdoors. It's more green here. The people are more accepting of diverse personal styles.

Negatives: the dark season. No sun for 5-6 months, near daily precipitation, anything from mist to days of constant rain. I have to go on Wellbutrin from October to April. Threats of fire during fire season.

Moving back to Staten Island: being 10-30 minutes away from one brother, 90 minutes drive from an older brother who had heart surgery. Currently has his son, daughter in law and grandson living with he and his wife. An hour away from my nephew who's also my godson. I haven't seen any of them since a 2019 family reunion.

And the food! Real Italian and Sri Lankan. Not available here. They put cheddar cheese on pizza here! The only cottage cheese I like is sold on the East Coast alone (Friendship). I used to eat 3 pints a week. Cottage cheese here is always tangy, small curd and often watery. I haven't had cottage cheese since 2019.

Negatives: rent is expensive, $500-$1000 more. Registering my car is going to be double. Going to be hard to get a rental with an 86 lb dog. He's a Golden, but many places have weight limits. And the cat gets hyper if he's stuck indoors.

It's taken 2 years for the dog to go from terrified of the cat to just wary. Hyper cat might set him back. The cat was dumped in the neighborhood 2 years before our family moved in, and became used to time outdoors. I would be lucky to find a place with a small balcony, then would have to fence it in.

The only place my dog could be unleashed is in my apartment. He's obedient and codependent, even for a golden. The only places he could be unleashed are in fenced in areas in parks the size of 3 SUVS next to each other.

In parks which don't have doggie jail prison yards, your dog can be unleashed from 6-9am and 6-9pm in small sections. But some parks close at dusk. And they enforce it and give expensive tickets. First time ticket $100-$250, and can go up to $1000. There's no time they're not looking for offenders.

When I lived there I was walking my dog at 12:30am in a road through a deserted park. Dog at my side. Parks Enforcement Police appeared out of nowhere and threatened me with a ticket.

It's not as bad as it was in the 80's, but it's also very competitive. Even to go to the grocery store you need mascara and lip gloss minimum or you look like you've given up.

There's no friends left on Staten Island. Eight of my friends have either died or moved down south and become maga. There's one I follow on Facebook but we don't have a lot in common.

So, stay or go?

Editing to add in that I'm approaching age 70. Relocating can be a different experience at different ages and I had forgotten about that aspect.

Anyone recognize these dogs?

They were roaming our street in Boring. I realize it's a longshot asking here, but they're kind of noticable

Small pearl earring, in Troutdale Oregon, outside of the kiddie playground area at Reynolds high school, near the entrance to the unleashed dog park section.
