Do you know any Africans with European ancestry?

I don’t mean an African that has a European parent that makes them mixed, I mean one that has an European ancestor. Im asking this because I’m really curious to know if there’s any Sub-Saharan Africans from the continent that have European DNA. I know that African Americans and Afro Caribbeans by default have European ancestry due to chattel slavery and such.

Anyone else think Black Panther is one of the most disrespected mainstream superheroes ever?

For a character who had one of the highest grossing superhero films ever, it seems like nobody really talks about him all that much. The only time I ever see Black Panther be brought up in discussions is

His relationship with Storm which always ends up discourse since their marriage wasn’t well received and was what made his character popular in the first place.

Him getting replaced by other Black Panthers, such as his sister Shuri who’s the current Black Panther in MCU and the latest Marvel game Tokon, and also his son taking on the mantle soon in MCU and possibly dating Storm.

Chadwick Boseman, he brought the character to life and it seems like he’s one of the main reasons why Black Panther gets brought up.

I do think most writers don’t actually care about him and only care about other characters that are tied to him such as Storm, Shuri, Namor, Doctor Doom, and The Fantastic Four. He’s Marvel’s first black superhero(first African superhero at that too), and yet I can’t name a single Black Panther comic outside of the ones where he was in a relationship with Storm. He should be at the forefront but yet he always feels like a side character even in his own stories.

I think on paper he could be a very interesting superhero with cool storylines. He’s the leader of the richest and most powerful country on Earth. The concept of an African superhero who rules the richest country on Earth, who’s also one of the smartest beings on Earth is very interesting. He’s basically a fusion between Batman and Doctor Doom. Tons of storylines that you could do with Black Panther that could tied into both Afro futurism and African mythology since Wakanda is an amalgam of numerous real world African countries.

For a character as big as Black Panther, he should be treated way better. He needs his own unique and interesting storylines that could give readers a chance to actually like his character. He also needs his own signature rogue gallery. There’s a lot writers can pull from to write a Black Panther story since on paper he’s very unique even compared to a lot of other superheroes.

What’s this sub’s opinion on Black Panther and Storm?

Personally I’m not a fan of this relationship for a lot of reasons but I would like to know what is this sub’s opinion on this relationship? They’re probably the only major black couple in comic books given that most mainstream and popular superhero relationships are usually white or interracial couples. Most of Storm’s most well received relationships has been with people outside of her race, specifically Wolverine and Forge.

I do think it’s kind of wild how the only major black relationship in superhero comics is one that has been written poorly and came out of nowhere. It’s like comic book writers have a vendetta against black people dating each other in their settings. Even Luke Cage, a superhero based off of the struggles of a Black American man, who’s also very pro black had to marry a white woman.

It’s crazy for such an iconic supervillain, Apocalypse most of the time doesn’t feel powerful nor intimidating.

Whenever he’s portrayed he doesn’t feel like the powerful threat that he should be. He has some of the craziest abilities for a supervillain ever. His mutant ability allows him to have complete control over his molecular structure which is amped up by celestial technology. He’s capable of granting himself powers and he has the power to turn people into his horseman. He’s turned Hulk into a horseman and he’s physically strong enough to box with guys like him and Thor.

Like imagine a mutant who’s physically strong and durable enough to be nearly up there with guys like Thor, Juggernaut, and Hulk who is bestowed with celestial energy/technology, who’s also capable of manipulating his molecular structure, could grant himself powers, and could turn almost anyone into his own horseman? That’s basically what Apocalypse is.

He be all accounts should be on the same playing field as villains like Doctor Doom and Thanos but he’s often portrayed to be weaker than he should be. This season he felt more like a brick/super strength character than an actual powerful threat with tons of powers in his arsenal. Even the way he got taken felt pretty anticlimactic.

I also think the fact that he’s not an Omega level mutant makes his whole ideology on Darwinism a whole contradiction.

Do you think it’s possible to remove French completely from Francophone African countries in the future?

French is still a colonial language in a lot of countries like DRC, RDC, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Benin, and Senegal but even then all of these countries have their own native languages that have nothing to do with French. The difference between countries like Ivory Coast, DRC, and Benin and countries like Haiti, Guadeloupe, and Martinique is that our countries aren’t strongly influenced by France nor French, and we still have our own native languages. Most Francophone countries aren’t even fluent in French, and other countries like Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have abandoned French.

Nigerians from the diaspora, do you ever plan on moving back to your country?

This question is for the Nigerians born and raised in the diaspora, whenever it’s the US, UK, etc. Do you ever plan on moving back to your country? I am asking this question because there’s been a big discussion on social media circles that Nigerians always flee their home country to find peace and success in other countries, and as a first generation it has bothered me for a while that I can’t just live and find success in my parents country and the only way I can find success and peace is in another person’s country. Yes I was born and raised in the US, but in the eyes of everyone else I will always be a tether.

What are your thoughts on the discourse centering around Storm?

I’m glad she’s being played by a very talented coming up actress who’s done broadway and theater, but I can’t help but be slightly annoyed by the amount of people that was straight up tearing down on black women being potential castings for Storm before the actress was revealed.

I’ve even seen a lot of comments from people online that Storm should be played by a Black American and Black American actress only since Storm is ethnically Black American but she’s also ethnically Kenyan and culturally was raised in Africa. I’ve seen a lot of people talk down on the French African girl being a potential casting for Storm only for her to not even get the casting in the first place.

I don’t get why Storm’s ethnicity should matter in this case when she’s ethnically both African American and Kenyan(East African). Also Storm has never even been played by an African actress, both Halle Barry and Alexandra Shipp were biracial Black Americans so why were so many fans complaining about an African actress being in the runner up for Storm(an African based superhero)?
