After 16 month I finally launched my game!

Hi everyone,

I just did it, I pressed the green button in Steam and launched my game „The Merchant’s Eden“. Felt like a dream to do this when I picked up Godot years ago. Not it happened!

Started the project roughly 16 months ago, and shared my first screenshots and videos here. Try to kept you updated ever since on the process of the game. Now it is finally done.

Looking forward to the feedback and hopefully not too many bug reports.

New production buildings for my relaxing medieval city-builder „The Merchant’s Eden“

Hi,

I am the solo dev behind the project „The Merchant’s Eden“ a relaxing medieval city-builder with tower defense elements.

Quite some players of the demo requested having more building options and more possibilities how to approach the game. So that’s why I thought it might be nice to have another building that becomes a source of income for the town. As players can play in different biomes I wanted a production that fits in each biome, leading to the new options: woodcutter, stonemason and beekeeper.

I really like how they turned out and hope that players gonna enjoy them. Any more ideas for buildings that could be introduced?

You can also play the demo yourself or wait for the full release, which is right around the corner on Wednesday (Aug 12): https://store.steampowered.com/app/3829280/The_Merchants_Eden/

Personal calendar does make a big difference for small indie games

Hi,
just wanted to share some insights in regards of a positive impact for my game: the personal calendar!

Just a week ago of official stated the release date for my game „The Merchant‘s Eden“ which is on August 12, 2026 and I got to experience an immediate change in my wishlist velocity.
While getting wishlists was a hard peace of work so far, doing social media posts or joining festivals, for the very first time I experience consistent wishlist velocity. Where is it coming from? The personal calendar! I know a lot of fear was around with the last changes on the steam discovery, but this one is, at least for small indie devs, a positive one. I am really happy to see, that finally something is moving and not dying done after 24 or 48h. It just keeps going, and that is a big motivation boost for the last weeks. Hoping to get close to 3k before the release date.

Demo up for 3 weeks, over a 1000 people played it, encouraging numbers?

Hi all,

some weeks before Next Fest I published the demo for my game „The Merchant’s Eden“, which resulted in some really nice feedback and player numbers. Next Fest pushed the demo again and doubled the number of people that actually played the game.
Just this weekend it reached 1000+ players with a an average of 65 the last days.

Median playtime is consistent around 25 minutes which is good, I think, as playing a scenario in the demo takes around 25-40 minutes depending on how good the player does. Average playtime is 32 minutes. But over 30% are in 10 min range.

I am currently sitting at a bit above 2k wishlists and I was wondering if my demo numbers are encouraging or more medioker?

Finally made it: published the DEMO for my game - The Merchant’s Eden

Hi,
did one or two posts here in the past about the development progress of my small medieval game called The Merchant’s Eden that I have been working on for more than the last 12 month. I finally reached the point where I wanted to share the game and let other try it out so I published a demo recently.

The game is focused around building a medieval town around a central marketplace in order to attract citizens and merchants. As the town and the treasury grows more and more bandits will try to raid your city. First it is only a few thief’s trying to sneak in while later bandits and berserker will attack your town.

Raise walls, gates and towers in order to protect citizens and merchants and secure the future of the town.

You can try out the demo here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4701310/The_Merchants_Eden_Demo

Demo for The Merchant‘s Eden now available!

Hi everyone,
after working on this game for over a year now as a solo developer for The Merchant‘s Eden I can now proudly announce, that you can now try it out yourself as the first demo got published today: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4701310/The_Merchants_Eden_Demo/

The Merchant’s Eden is a relaxing small medieval city builder where the player is building a city around a central marketplace in order to attract citizens and merchants. But as your city grows so does the danger of bandits raiding your city. Raise walls, build towers and defend your town.
Grow a bigger and bigger city on procedurally generated maps, make your citizens happy with parks and build a thriving city in an afternoon!

Planning to publish my demo next week, any last minute tips?

Hi,
after over a year of working on it I finally reached the point where I want to publish a demo (or have to) next week. As this is my first time of actually publishing a game on Steam I am always grateful for any tips or thinks to look out for.

Originally I wanted to have it published weeks ago but as most of you probably know, plans are hardly working out as a solo dev. Gonna join the upcoming Steam Next Fest as well. Currently polishing the game while others test the game in order to present it in a good state.

My plan for the release of the demo:
Announcing it on social media platforms, press release, reaching out to YouTuber and streamers, keeping posting about it the following days, using Steam mailing feature to reach out to my wishlists, being prepared for bugs and fixing them on short notice, crossing all fingers that I have and hoping for the best.

Anything else to keep in mind?

Where it started vs where it is now

It is over a year since I started working on my relaxing medieval city builder game The Merchant’s Eden. It was quite a journey this far. I learned a lot, struggled even more but as the game is coming closer to being finished there is this weird mixture of excitement, fear, joy and self doubt all at once.
There are still quite stress- and eventful times ahead of me before I can finally press the release button, but can’t wait to finally do it.

Biggest learning: making a game is one thing, actually releasing one something completely different. The things that need to happen all around it is definitely something most people probably underestimate.

Hi everyone,

getting closer to finishing my game The Merchant’s Eden but one thing that bothered me for a while was my color choice for the roof of houses in my Mediterranean biome. The color is shared with the accent color of tower, gatehouses and walls. This feels not ideal so I played around with some slight color variations, darker, more orange, etc.

Couldn’t really decide if it is an improvement or not and which color to choose. Seeking for opinions and feedback!

Hi,

it has definitely been a while since I posted the last time. I am still heavily working on my game The Merchant’s Eden.

Currently getting closer to the polishing phase. I‘m stuck on the question of adapting my roof colors in the Mediterranean biome. Sticking with the same color as towers and walls using for their accent elements feels a bit to much. I tried out some slight adaptions but cannot really decide for one, any opinions?
