First time buying a used MTB... what should I look out for?

I’m buying a used mountain bike for the first time and I don’t really know what I’m doing yet.

What are the main things I should check before buying? Any common red flags I should watch out for?

I literally have got zero clue. I've done mountain biking only twice, I don't even have a regular bike.

I'm buying a used 2025 Voodoo Bizango.

Any advice would be really appreciated...

The best productivity app you'll ever use

For years, my biggest challenge wasn't figuring out what to do, it was actually doing it. I'd have a perfect plan, a clear vision, but the follow through just wouldn't happen. It's frustrating to constantly feel like you're letting yourself down, even when you know exactly what needs to be done.

I spent so much time on different systems, fancy to do lists, complex project management tools, thinking more organization was the answer. But the real problem was always the actual execution, the consistent action. I realized I needed a genuine accountability partner, someone who wasn't me, to actually push things forward, not just track them.

Finding something that actually fit that need was tough. I didn't want another app I'd forget to open. What finally started to click for me was when I stumbled onto CoachCall.AI and tried it out. It's an AI accountability partner that lives right on WhatsApp. It just calls you or texts you at the times you set, remembers your commitments, tracks your progress without you having to log anything manually, and basically acts like a personal coach available 24/7.

It's honestly made a huge difference in my consistency. Having that external nudge, something that genuinely remembers what I said I'd do and checks in, has been a game changer for getting momentum on big projects and even small daily tasks. It cuts through the internal negotiation. What has been the one thing that actually moved the needle for you when it comes to consistent execution?

New to MTB – Is a Large Voodoo Bizango OK if I’m technically XL but have short legs?

Hi everyone,

I’m completely new to mountain biking, but I’m keen to get into it properly. Because of that I’d rather buy a used MTB than spend ~£60 every time I rent one for the day.

I’m pretty set on getting a Voodoo Bizango since it seems to be one of the most recommended beginner bikes (and one of the cheaper options).

My issue is sizing. According to charts I should be an XL, but most used bikes I’m finding on Facebook Marketplace are Large.

For context:

  • I’m technically XL based on height
  • But I have relatively short legs (similar inseam to my girlfriend who is 5'7")
  • And a longer torso

So I’m wondering if a Large frame could still work for me, given my proportions, or if I should hold out for an XL.

Any advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation would be really appreciated.

How do you build self-discipline when you have absolutely none?

For years, I'd get excited about a new project or habit, full of energy for a few days, then inevitably just... stop. It didn't matter if it was learning a new skill, sticking to a workout routine, or even just clearing my inbox. I always felt like I was running in place, never making real progress on the things that mattered to me. I knew what I needed to do, but the doing part was always the wall.

I tried all sorts of apps, journals, setting alarms, even roped friends into being my accountability buddies. The friends thing eventually felt like a burden on them, and the apps often became another thing I'd just ignore after a week. I kept coming back to the idea that external pressure, a gentle nudge, was what actually worked for me, but finding something sustainable and non judgemental was the hard part.

That's why I eventually got into this whole thing with CoachCall.AI it's an AI accountability partner that lives right on WhatsApp. It actually calls you, texts you at times you set, remembers your commitments, and checks in on your progress. It's like having a personal coach available 24/7 without the guilt of bothering a human or the self defeat of another ignored app notification.

Sounds simple, but for someone like me, who constantly drops the ball, having that consistent, no judgement check-in has been a game changer for sticking with things. It's not a silver bullet, but it's the closest thing I've found to consistently keeping me on track. I'm curious, for those of you who also struggle with consistency, what has actually worked for you?

Is it wise to rent at £1.2k on a £35k salary?

I’m considering moving to Leeds after a breakup.

I feel like especially now, I need to treat myself decently and live around others to make sure I don’t sink into depression.

I am eyeing some “built for renters” flats, which include gym, lounge area, wifi, pet friendly, and are generally very beautiful inside.

Problem is they cost a lot. All around 1.2k excluding bills and council tax.

Would it be a super big stretch to go for a place like this on a 35k salary?

I make about £2350 net monthly income.

I’m worried because if I take away food expenses, council tax, bills, any emergencies happening… i don’t think I’ll be left with much.

Has anyone been on a similar situation who can advise me? Should I go for a cheaper property?

Edit:
For context: I work fully remotely and I do value having my own space. I’d definitely be open to a cheaper property, perhaps around £750, even if it’s a bit further outside the city centre. My main concern is becoming isolated, as I tend to be quite a solitary person. If I don’t have things like a gym or a communal area and I’m not seeing anyone during the day, I worry that I’ll end up withdrawing and falling back into depression.

How do you stop procrastinating when nothing seems to work?

That feeling of staring at a task, knowing exactly what needs to be done, how important it is, and still being utterly unable to make the first move is incredibly frustrating. It's not laziness, it's like a mental block where your brain just refuses to connect to your actions. I've had entire days evaporate just cycling through that paralysis, usually for something important that would take less than an hour to finish.

I’ve spent years trying every trick in the book: Pomodoro, breaking tasks into tiny pieces, setting alarms, even just moving to a different room. Sometimes they worked for a bit, but for those truly sticky tasks, especially when I was already feeling overwhelmed, nothing seemed to consistently get me over that initial hump. The internal monologue of "just start, just do one thing" would eventually just become background noise.

What finally started to make a difference was external accountability, but not the human kind where I had to coordinate with someone else. I needed something that was always there, totally objective, and didn't judge. I ended up building this AI accountability partner called CoachCall.AI for myself and a few friends. It lives on WhatsApp, which is handy because it’s already open all the time.

The way it works is simple: I tell it what I need to do and when. Then, at the exact time I set, it calls me, or texts me, reminding me of my commitment. It remembers everything, tracks my progress, and just generally acts as that consistent, gentle push I always needed. It's actually gotten me to start and finish tasks that I'd been putting off for weeks. It’s like having a personal coach available 24/7 without the social anxiety or scheduling.

It’s honestly been a game changer for getting unstuck and actually initiating those dreaded tasks.

How can I cover the brake area before I spray Lanoguard on these bits?

I want to spray lanoguard on what you see here. But I'm worried I'm going to mistakenly spray on the brake pads / discs.

How can I make a DIY cover for the wheel area?

Also, can I spray everything you see in this pic or should I stay away from any bits (other than brake pads and discs)?

Was charged to replace all brake discs… are they in bad condition?

MOT just 4 days before came out perfect. Then I get an invoice (not authorised) saying they changed all my discs… and these are the discs.. are they in bad shape?

Honda Hazz 1.4 ivtec 2014 manual 1.4

What are my options here?

Hi everyone! :)

I bought a used Honda Jazz 2014 Ivtec 1.4

It’s got this hole.

I’m considering going to a mechanic, but I just want to patch / cover the hole so it doesn’t rust. I don’t need paint over it. (I’m not fussy about it, I just want to keep this car going for as long as possible)

How much do you think the cheapest fix possible cost me?

And would I be better off just applying some gorilla tape to it?

I’m a total car noob…

How serious is the rust on the undercarriage of this car?

Considering buying this used car and apply anti rust on the undercarriage. Can it last me 3 years?

I’m looking for signs of structural damage but I can’t tell.

I live near Scotland.
