My prediction is that the Rick and Morty movie will release in either late 2028 or early 2029, and that a teaser will release around Simpsons 2. That's probably why they're finally working on it.

Do you guys think they'll ever make another Simpsons Movie?

Honestly I don't think they will. It's been like 4 years and the show has been going downhill forever. Really strange though how the show's still on and they haven't made another movie.

Hot take: DreamWorks should make PG-13 rated films while Illumination keeps doing PG.

Don't translate this to me saying "PG = bad" or "Kids movies = bad". I just hate how mainstream western animated films are practically MANDATED to be PG. I want more experimentation. Y'all who use this argument against me are proving why animation still doesn't get taken seriously as cinema by many.

And yes, I know anime and adult animation is an ongoing thing, but it's not really the same. Anime typically doesn't do various stylizations, and American adult animation usually tries to either be Family Guy 2 or Anime 2.

It annoys me a lot how Kpop Demon Hunters and the upcoming Ray Gunn were aiming for PG-13 but then sanitized because of executive meddling.

PG-13 doesn't even have to be "adults only". They can still be family films. That's why Marvel and DC movies are successful.

I always liked DreamWorks in the 90s-00s because they felt like an edgier alternative to Pixar. Pixar had a different atmosphere back then too, and I wish they'd attempt this too. Brad Bird gets really mad when people call The Incredibles a "kids movie".

Hollywood, take the fucking risk!!!!!!!!

Why did Adult Swim/Toonami never air any of the animated DC films until the 2020s? (And hardly still air them now too)

I always liked how Cartoon Network aired a shit ton of DC shows alongside their originals and what they acquired.

I remember there being tons of adult animated DC movies though too.

They were always marketed, but never aired on television. You could say it's because they wanted people to buy the DVDs, but CN was still always airing the straight to DVD Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry movies. So what gives?

I remember being curious about them whenever I'd see a commercial but I was always too poor to buy them.

How come anti-woke morons despise Steven Universe but some are fans of Adventure Time, despite the fact that PB and Marcy eat that pussy 445?

Like I remember seeing a Finn toy in the background of TheQuartering's videos.

Edit: Man I wanted more people to question and laugh at the title.

Instead of the law requiring websites and OS to verify your ID, why don't we just have stores ask for your ID before buying a device and have people sign a contract that says you can't have children use it without parental controls? Not really sure where else to post this.

Sorry if this is a noob question or isn't the right place to post this. I mainly just want to spread this idea around and ask what y'all think of it.

(Opinion) The Rick and Morty movie should be over 2 hours long

Dan Harmon said it's hard to pack the show into a 22 minute format and that it ultimately leads to MULTIPLE lines being cut and changes to episodes. He however said making a movie will allow the script to breathe.

This also might be their only chance at ever making a movie. This may be the ONLY Rick and Morty movie ever (unless it somehow becomes a giant box office hit). I personally think they should just make it over 2 hours long.

Also, Harmon's comments kind of make me wonder why they never do more 2-4 part episodes.

Anti-shipping makes me miss when nerd culture and the animation community was smaller actually...

I didn't really start noticing antis until about the late 2010s-2020. I used to think that COVID, other countries' laws, and the Bush administration's confusing laws that were later deemed unconstitutional played a part in this, which they do, but honestly I think it's mainly because the animation community got bigger.

You didn't see as many people ranting about cringe culture. I mean sure, you had the likes of Chris Chan, but nobody was making endless amounts of videos talking about "cringey" fetish art. The small amount of people in fandom had a general understanding of Rule 34. If it exists, there's porn of it. Plain and simple. Nothing you can do about it but actually use fucking filters and parental controls if it concerns you.

Elements antis and cringe culture always existed, but I feel like fandom discourse didn't used to be THIS bad.

Also once again, like I said in previous post, YouTube Kids should have never existed. Social media should have never decided children should be part of their main demographic. The internet is not a fucking playground.

Edit: Just remembered when Tumblr banned NSFW posts. That had to have played a role there too.

I am a liberal with progressive views, but hate speech laws are anti-art and pro-censorship. They are a dangerous tool that antis have and will take advantage of.

If hate speech laws were just extended to saying that you can't call for the genocide/threat of groups of people, and that you can't slander others, I'd understand their purpose, but that's not really where those laws usually end.

Australia, Canada, and the UK had hate speech laws. That means their government has more control over freedom of speech.

In Australia, a woman was literally arrested for writing a book that depicted ageplay. A lot of anime are banned or censored in countries like this too.

These kinds of laws have also led to things like websites and operating systems requiring that you give them your ID, which is now effecting the US.

Edit: Let me clarify. I am aware laws, like the example I gave in Australia, are separate from their hate speech laws. My point is, they have given the government power to control free speech.

McDonald's Fry Guys or Liberty Biberty?

I honestly hated liberty biberty before it even became a mascot. The whole joke was literally just some dumb guy mispronouncing a word. Why tf do so many media companies use that same God damn joke and think it's so funny?

Then the mascot came and I started hearing young people angry at this "pom-pom ass". That got me wondering what y'all think of the McDonald's Fry Guys? Do you hate them too?

This is definitely biased blind nostalgia, but I liked them and the whole McDonaldLand theming because of how fun and colorful it was. Commercials aren't really like that anymore.

The destruction of live TV, and what it used to offer, is actually making America dumber

Parents will often just hand their children iPads and let them go on social media or download any apps without thinking. At least when Live TV was the mainstream entertainment, there were PSAs, educational content, progressive messaging, etc. Most kids would only go on websites that were promoted on TV, on children's stations.

Sure it got worse later on with all the stupid reality TV shows and brain rot, but I think it's better than handing a 10 year old Twitter or Skibidi Toilet. More parents were also using parental controls back then. Now they're wanting the government to require people to give their ID to websites for age verification, which is fucked.

Is anyone else tired of anti-porn rhetoric?

I have not seen this entire video, but I keep seeing the word "gooner" used constantly to demean others who like and watch porn. Why do people care so much about this? I could not give a flying fuck if people are porn addicts, so long as they're not harming others or looking at anything illegal. I don't give a shit that some dumbass is giving millions of dollars to an Onlyfans user. Porn should still be legal. Whether you like it or not, it's a form of free speech, and in some cases even art and education. Laugh at me, I don't care.

I especially think that the government requiring people to give websites their fucking ID for age verification is shitty too. Why are people rationalizing this!?!?

I'm sorry but yeah, I agree with Awe, modern SpongeBob ruins old jokes

The original scene was funny as hell because she looked so old that her body aged into a weird worm looking skeleton thing. This episode completely misinterprets the joke and makes it so she's always looked like that.

I never thought I'd have more respect for seasons 4-12 at this point.

u/One_Cover9119 — 18 days ago

Sometimes I feel like this sub doesn't get that it's okay to acknowledge that something you enjoyed as a kid isn't as good as you remembered it or that it's lackluster quality, and to even still like it at the same time. You don't have to say the later seasons are "overhated".

I guess it's a problem with the animation community now in general really. Not everything you're nostalgic for needs to be considered an underappreciated masterpiece.

Why are so many adult animation fans assholes? Has anyone else noticed this?

Specifically I see this in subs for animated sitcoms. Like Rick and Morty or Family Guy, or honestly even r/adultswim.

Any time I see people talk passionately and/or commentate, or lightly critique a show on any subreddits related to adult animated shows, the comments are filled with a bunch of assholes shitting on the OP. Or they say "I ain't reading all that".

Kind of makes me sad that we still don't have a Family Guy movie.

A Futurama movie is being talked about too. At this point, I won't be surprised if we end up getting an American Dad or King Of The Hill movie before Family Guy.

I know Seth said he doesn't want to make it until he messes up and makes a bad movie or something, but man... After over a decade of Fox talking about it, can we just finally get one? With how long the show has been on, and how consistently popular it somehow is, why can't we just finally have it??

Edit: Some of you are mentioning TV movies. That's not what I'm talking about.

u/One_Cover9119 — 24 days ago

Why are people okay with Quagmire but not Herbert?

I'll admit I haven't looked into the criticism of the character that much, but I do think the animation community has become increasingly puritan about fictional cartoons, so I can already guess what the problem is to them.

This show has constantly made jokes involving abuse (including SA), sexism, ableism, racism, anti-semitism, religion, etc. but this character is too far?

Speaking as a victim of SA, I actually used to think Herbert was the funniest character in the entire show. You're not supposed to be on his fucking side. You're not supposed to think he's a good person (even if he saved Chris and Peter from a nazi). You're supposed to think he's a creep. That is the punchline. HE is the butt of the joke! His is literally named Herbert the PERVERT!

Put me on r/superseriousfamilyguy I don't care. I'm just tired of so many people basically wanting animation to be boring and tame af (I am not anti-woke either).

Unpopular Opinion: Gen 4 of Cartoon Network sucked

Adventure Time and Steven Universe had themes of war, genocide, sexuality, racism, etc. Regular Show had themes of toxic masculinity, Gumball was hilariously satirical, and all four of these shows had really great characters. I feel like they were appealing more towards an older audience at this time.

How TF do you go from that to Apple and Onion?

I don't think that most of these shows are bad (outside of PPG 2016, Mighty Magiswords, and the Ben 10 reboot). Hell I think Infinity Train and Villainous are actually great. But a lot of them are inferior to those other four that really sold Cartoon Network in the 2010s. Deeper themes and/or targeting an older demographic again.

Tbf, I think this was a problem later into Gen 3 too. I was never really a fan of Clarence either. But did anyone on the network even understand what made those four so popular?

Infinity Train and Villainous are the only two shows I STRONGLY liked from this time because it felt like they were going back in this direction... And those two shows really received the short end of the stick.

Also they started spamming Teen Titans GO of course. Cartoon Nito really didn't help too.

I remember wondering if they were literally TRYING to kill the network at that time. Lol

Edit: Some of you don't read

Edit 2: Scratch that, MANY OF YOU DON'T READ!!! I literally said most of these shows aren't bad.
