Bloodshed

Bloodshed

What a slaughter. Another "I deny you to have any territory" kind of player. They're even kind of funny.

Again I blundered a corner, but captured some of his stones, and got a huge moyo. I managed to capture his suicidal invasion and in the end, likely kind of "tilted" he mismanaged my reduction and blundered his corner.

An interesting game

I just wanted to share quite an interesting game.

I played against a very anoying type of opponent. Dude didn't play even single correct joseki, at least to my knowlege. He started a fight in every corner, invaded every piece of territory.

Because of it I blundered my first group in top right but didn't resign, because I already know that you can win against such type of opponent even after blundering some group by playing solid big moves and making territory.

I managed better in other corners. I even let him live in top left, because he was making just 5 points there. I captured his large group in the top, but he managed to make a seki in bottom left. I must admit he was very good at racing in capturing.

Happily I managed to capture his invasion of my bottom right moyo.

Seems thanks to this win I made 10 kyu for the very first time in my life and am very proud of it ^_^

Influence style? - Could you review my game?

Hi. I've recently watched several videos claiming that we shouldn't make territory, we should make influence/power. I'm well aware of the concept of attacking for profit. After watching the videos I'm trying to play even more so.

One of the videos even claimed that we shouldn't try to save some territory from our moyo, but rather attack an invasion for influence. I try to do it and the results for now are relatively good. I won handicap games against two 9 kyu for the first time in my life. One of the 9 kyu was wiped out from the board, but in this game I hardly won with reverse komi.

Could you see my game and tell me how could I play better? I know I should have saved the 3 stones, but this required quite deep reading which is hardly possible during a game. I also blundered a snap back. But what could I do better?

I suppose that 28 was too deep and I should have played some G15. Is that correct?

Attachment underneath

Is attachment underneath on the 3rd line a legit technique of invading? Because it seems pretty hard to stop.

They took everything

Seems shogi took everything: sente, gote, shape, joseki, tsumeshogi etc.

Hikaru no go couldn't happen in real life

It's sad, but Hikaru no go couldn't happen in real life, because in real life briliant players don't have children which are also briliant in the same discipline. This just doesn't happen. So somebody like Akira coudn't exist in real life.

I think it's quite widespread that children of distinguished chess players etc. also try to play chess etc. and are arguably decent at it, but not outstanding. I haven't heard about any such example either in chess or go or in other discipline. The nature just strives for the average.

First time got trashtalked in go.

He accused me of cheating in like first minute of the game after his very bad play.

Dude blundered medium group in a very simple tesuji. After that he was certain I'm cheating.

Josekipedia says that black here, if doesn't want to play a ko fight, shoudn't under normal cirumstances secure the cut in A and should just tenuki. But why?

If white cuts in A we either need to crawl on the second line or give up 6.

I'd like to share thoughts on Pandanet also known as IGS for those who maybe don't yet know this server i.e. haven't played there.

I stuck at OGS and noticed many complains, for instance Triton Baduk's on OGS ranking system. They claim OGS rank is very unreliable*. Triton Baduk and some other people recomanded Pandanet so I decided to move there to try it out and check what my rank will be.

TLDR: I like Pandanet very much. I recommand it to everyone with kyu >= 15.

I have played at Pandanet for about 2 weeks. Here are my observations:

  • Unlike at OGS you need a server client. I installed GoPanda2.
  • Instalation of the client and registration was easy.
  • Interface is relatively nice. Could be more modern, but is ok.
  • There is plenty of people at Pandanet. I was suprised. There is plenty, at least when the Japanese aren't sleeping. Numbers vary from some 700 to 2000 depending on time in Japan and in the US. Among them there is likely several hundreds (100? 200? 300?) bots and "guests", but still there is rather plenty of people.
  • Depending on the hour, people with kyu < 15 might have some problems with finding an opponent. Above 16 kyu they shouldn't have any problems. For absolute novices and people with kyu lover than 15 I would recommand OGS.
  • The playing style at Pandanet is peaceful. Perhaps even more peaceful than at OGS.
  • I read that DDKs at Pandanet are stronger than at OGS. To me they seem weeker, but maybe I have progressed.
  • Client doesn't pair me with bots.
  • Unlike at OGS, handicap games are standard. I turned them off at OGS because I found defeating someone with, say, 2 stones of handicap not that easy. But I started to like them at Pandanet. I feel kind of like Hikaru in the school go club 😂 I recommand seting searching opponents 2 stones stronger and 1 stone weaker. Beating a slightly stronger opponent with 1 or 2 stones of handicap isn't that difficult.
  • You can check handicap and komi at game info.
  • Canadian byo yomi is standard there. I like it very much. Games with Canadian byo yomi still tend to be long, but has faster pace, because there is no incentive to stall your game.
  • They also play there with very short main time but that is fine with Canadian byo byomi. I think I have started to like playing go again thanks to Pandanet and Canadian byo byomi. Prior to that I played go to progress, but didn't really like it, because my games at OGS were very long and exausting.
  • After the game you need to manually set dead stones, but this is fine.
  • We're playing here where Sai probably used to play 😉
  • I can recommand Pandanet to all (except maybe kyus lower than 15).

* - several days ago OGS announced that abandoned rank games against bots. Reportedly some people abused this system. So there are now chances OGS rank will become more reliable.

Akira seeing his father playing Sai runs to the internet cafe where ha met Hikaru and discovers that he is indeed Sai, because Hikaru like the last moron went to the same cafe.

This is what real Akira would do. He's got plenty of time, because Hikaru set 3h for each player.

What y'all think
