Why is Standard Brawl full of tuned decks when it's unranked? I'm finding Ranked Standard easier.

I thought I had found a fun place to just mess around with Arena and I made an Iron Man deck with jank like Guidelight Synthesizer and random rares. Then...I get killed T3-4.

I thought it was a fluke, but so were the next 3 games. Everything seemed really tuned and smooth.

So...should I just stop? I want to mess around with fun stuff like deathtouch commanders but it doesn't seem there is a home for that.

What would be good to play in the upcoming event? What is everyone bringing?(still confused about the multiple banlists)

Thanks to people actually explaining what Pauper is like, now I have gotten interested myself because it seems there are actually Ponza and Dredge variants! I want to play Legacy but it's not online, so I do this instead. :)

https://mtgdecks.net/Pauper/decklists/ - is this a reliable resource? Mosf of what I Googled is Bo3 (I think the event is B01?) and it seems to not include bans? I see Cranial Ram, for example.

I'm thinking of just jamming MonoR Madness or something since it's quick and easy. Also how come no lists running Swiftspear if it's legal on Arena?

I'm quite Spiky (as you can tell from my research) and I want to play something with legs at least. It seems quite a fun format.

So exactly how many versions of Brawl are there, what's on Arena and not and which are Ranked?

I Googled, and there's no clear explanation, not even from WoTC.

So there's 100 card - Brawl. It's called Historic on Arena? I thinnkkkkkk there's Ranked?

Then there's Standard Brawl. No Ranked? 60 cards.

But since different cardpools - so different cards are downshifted? Alchemy is legal on Arena for Brawl?

I r confused. I basically only play Arena, and I wanted to play some games which didn't end turn 4-5. I like the idea of Brawl but generally overpowered commanders ruin it.

I know nothing about the format but kind of interested in the Arena event later this month. What should I know?

I mean I Googled a bit and read this : https://draftsim.com/pauper-mtg/

I'm interested mainly becasue I like playing with old cards (started with Revised) and I want to see games go to later turns. Thinking of playing either Monored or Affinity.

What's the metagame like? Very competitive?

Title: Rate check — AI dubbing "specialist" role with translation involved, task-based pay

An offer from a company. $8/min of finished audio. Me - 15-20 years in related fields.

JD bundles: optimizing AI-translated dub scripts, voice casting (matching AI voices to characters), and coordinating with audio engineering/mixing — not just proofing.

Rough math: light-scope case (~8 min my time per finished minute) = ~$60/hr. Full-scope (heavier correction + casting + coordination) should be closer to $75-140/hr based on JP-EN MTPE post-editing benchmarks. JD is vague and PM's post-interview replies are 1-2 lines, so I can't pin down what they really want.

8 USD per min of finished audio seems on the low side given the full scope.

Anyone worked with AI dubbing marketplaces (ElevenLabs, Papercup, Deepdub, Camb.ai, Rask)? Is $8/min standard for this hybrid QC+casting role, or a lowball?

Petition to have the ability to convert Mythic WCs to Rares at 1 to 2 rate (or similar)

I know I'm not the only person who's thought of this. I have lots of Mythic...not so many rares. Because why? Because lands. Also because rarity in general. :)

Since Arena doesn't have a dust system like HS, I'm hoping something like this can be implemented. Other rarities would be good too, but Mythic first please.

Reddit Sold Out - why do people still support it?

In February 2024 Reddit signed a $60M/year deal with Google to license your posts as AI training data. Then a $70M deal with OpenAI. $203M total. The same day they filed for their IPO. This isn't common knowledge - I just learnt about this, hence this post.

The anti-promo culture that makes the data valuable has been quietly monetized. The mods are now the unpaid quality control department.

From inside your subreddit nothing looks different. The mods are still banning shills. The culture feels intact. That's the point — the authenticity is being strip-mined, not visibly destroyed.

So a genuine question: why do people keep investing in platforms that are selling their content without telling them?

Is it just that the community is here so you stay? That the exploitation is invisible enough not to register? Something else?

I made a post about Reddit's "selling out" and changes thereof. Where do post?

It was rejected from /privacy, I tried other /reddit specific subs.

Tips on learning basic Tagalog grammar, especially verbs

I plan to be in Manila for half a year, so I want to learn basic Tagalog. I already know 5 languages, but I'm finding Tagalog grammar to be very different.

Here is what I managed to get from textbooks and AI regarding verb conjugation :

  1. um- (agent focus, simple/single action)
  2. mag- (agent focus, more complex/repeated/effortful action)
  3. ma- (involuntary, stative, ability)
  4. in-/i-/-an (patient/goal focus — object or recipient is "in charge" of the sentence)

Easiest actual method: memorize each root with its AF (actor focus) affix attached, as one unit, like a flashcard pair.

  • kain → kumain
  • luto → magluto
  • tulog → matulog
  • bili → bumili

Do you agree? I thought it would be like Japanese verb classes, but it seems to have its own logic to it. I'm just trying to find a way to conjugate easily.

Does Izzet Prowess just roll over to G/x Stompy/Landfall? [Standard]

I have a horrible winrate against them, 20% or less. Really depends on whether I can draw Slagstorm/Sunder from my board. If they get an early Cub/Ouro/Offense/Pawpatch I lose usually.

I've reached Mythic most months and qualified before, so I'm not that bad (haha) but I can't seem to crack Diamond 1 this time.

Maybe I'm misplaying the deck? I know that I'm not the beatdown post-board, and I'm following Reid's suggestion to board out Talent/Boomerang. Basically it's the same pray and draw sweepers as with Dimir Midrange.

An idea I was toying with was transformational SB into Spellelementals, I saw someone do it against me once and I thought it was pretty cool.

My list :

Lesser known teachers such as William Samuels/Douglas Harding - are they any good?

I actually came across the former a decade before, before I even knew what nonduality was (haha what a phrase) I could sense there was something there, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

I also came across the Headless Way later. It didn't do anything for me, but recently for some reason after my somatic work in my other post, it seemed to click.

After years of research (100+ books and thouands of vids/articles) it seems that most teachers seem to converge on the same pointers - what are you before thought? Sense fields, posture work etc. I guess the vast proliferation is because different things work for different people? (as well as culture, knowledge etc)

I'm wondering if the lesser known people just...didn't make it into the mainstream. Besides these two, there's also Amrita Baba, and some other modern mystics whose names I can't quite recall. I guess they get lost in the deluge of Tolle/Spira/Angelo and other more well known figures.

Which is a bit of a shame as I feel they have a lot of wisdom. Maybe they wrote before the Net was big :) (I Googled but didn't find a lot - Harding has tons though)

Just wanted to know what the community's thoughts on this might be.

The understanding of trauma (especially long-term and development) in awakening literature and discourse seems to be quite lacking.

Over the last month or so I have been faced with the unsettling truth that physical changes of a few weeks may have made more of a difference than years of sustained practice - and of how much is due to acute trauma.

Some context. I've been on this path in some form for 2 decades and have technical 4th path (as Ingram describes) for about 2 years now (this is just a shorthand since not everyone here knows me) I also have severe abuse/development trauma since I was 12, and correspondingly about 2 decades of therapy...which apparently were not enough in certain respects 😞

My teacher has constantly pointed to spinal/posture issues, so I finally paid about 1k to have chiropractic work done (for the 2nd time) and it seems to have cleared up a lot. Simple practices like "notice awareness" are now like "WOW is THIS what is going on? REALLY?" Sometimes it feels I am hearing them for the first time - even though I've practiced some of this for hundreds of hours. I'm like "oh so THIS is what stillness is pointing to?"

I initially didn't want to overindex on this "revelation" (as I am wary of theories of all) but in this case, after lots of reading and research, I'm forced to conclude that the vast majority of material is written for neurotypical individuals, and not a lot includes trauma. Long-term trauma changes the entire neurobiological baseline, the perceptual shifts are not the same at all. When I asked my teacher about this he replied that most is still written from an ableist perspective - I follow the exercises, I often don't experience what is written in the books.

I could not believe that such a large area is so underappreciated (the ND and trauma populations are not exactly small) so I went looking - but there are precious few teachers that touch on this. I found Judith Blackstone, among others, and Angelo Dilulo's latest retreats incorporate more trauma work, but by and large, Peter Levine and van der Kolk don't speak awakening, and Spira and Tolle don't speak trauma.

I'm not so naive as to believe that ancient populations didn't deal with abuse/trauma/famine/war, but perhaps the traditional knowledge dealt with it in different ways, or their culture was too different - I don't want speculate too much here.

Aside from some articles here and there dealing with the intersection, it's been quite a revelation how much I (and others) may have been gated over the years - both saddening and humbling.

I'm wondering if I may have some blind spots in my research, or what the experience of other people might be like. I still feel its an area whch warrants a lot more understanding and integration, hence the post.

CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal in C drive growing huge (16GB+) how to fix?

I’m dealing with a Windows 11 issue where a file called:

CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal

has been growing very large (it was ~12GB a couple weeks ago and keeps increasing).

From what I understand, it seems related to Windows capability/privacy permissions (camsvc / Capability Access Manager service), and it behaves like a SQLite WAL file.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Identified it as camsvc / Capability Access Manager related
  • Tried deleting it normally → access denied / file in use (even after ending related processes)
  • Tried changing permissions → still blocked (doesn't let me change settings)
  • Tried Safe Mode → issue persists / still couldn’t properly remove or stop it (file still locked or behavior continues)
  • I can’t access it in Explorer or WizTree; it shows no permissions even after attempts via CMD/permissions tools

Current situation:
Safe Mode didn’t resolve or unlock it, so I'm now considering WinRE and deleting from the command prompt as admin (before Win starts)

Questions :

  • Is it safe to delete this .db-wal file directly (ideally from WinRE)?
  • Will Windows rebuild it cleanly, or does this suggest database corruption?

I'm concerned about this because I don't want to have to go into Safe Mode/WinRe again each time the file gets big - I didn't realize that would entail having to login into all my services and extensions again, which took 15 mins.

  • Is there a proper fix for the underlying process (camsvc / Capability Access Manager), or is deleting it just a temporary workaround?

I’ve seen a lot of “just delete it” advice online, but I’m trying to understand if that’s actually safe long-term or just masking the issue. The most complete fix I found was something Powershell related, but I'm not sure that is the right way to go. I see a lot of users having this problem - is there a more comprehensive solution?

Advice on how to make a good soup from leftover chicken carcass

My starting recipe was -

Ingredients:

  • Roast chicken carcass from store
  • 1 half onion
  • 2 small carrots
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 stock cube
  • Water
  • Salt (to taste)

Steps:

  1. Dry roast bones first in a pot with onion for about 10 mins and some oil
  2. Bring to boil
  3. Add carrots + tomatoes + stock cube.
  4. Lower to a very low simmer (gentle bubbles, not full boil).
  5. Simmer for ~2 hours with lid on
  6. Taste and adjust salt at the end.

It was...ok. Not something I would make again. I was kind of disappointed.

BTW, I am in the Phillipines.

Things I would change :

a) Simmer longer? (2hrs not enough?)

b) Add ginger/lemongrass maybe?

c) More stock cubes? (don't want too much MSG tho)

Not sure if I would add meat/other veg. It was edible, just a bit thin.

SBing with Izzet Prowess (and any tips I might be missing?) [Standard]

I have been using this guide as a base reference

but I don't really like some of the card choices. My list is :

Deck

7 Island (ELD) 254

4 Eddymurk Crab (BLB) 48

4 Opt (FDN) 512

4 Stormchaser's Talent (BLB) 75

4 Burst Lightning (FDN) 192

4 Boomerang Basics (TLA) 46

1 Get Out (DSK) 60

4 Flow State (SOS) 49

2 Impractical Joke (SOS) 119

2 Multiversal Passage (OM1) 181

2 Spell Pierce (DFT) 64

2 Stock Up (DFT) 67

4 Riverpyre Verge (DFT) 260

4 Steam Vents (GRN) 257

1 Spirebluff Canal (OTJ) 270

3 Spirebluff Canal (KLR) 286

1 Sleight of Hand (SOA) 22

3 Sleight of Hand (WOE) 67

4 Slickshot Show-Off (OTJ) 146

Sideboard

2 Disdainful Stroke (WOE) 47

2 Annul (EOE) 46

2 Slagstorm (FDN) 207

2 Get Out (DSK) 60

1 Sear (ECL) 154

2 Soul-Guide Lantern (WOE) 251

1 Spell Snare (DIS) 33

1 Negate (MOM) 68

2 The Legend of Kuruk (TLA) 61

I'm also not really understanding his thought process for SBing...Legend of Kurruk against control? Shouldn't you be rushing them? I quite like the card against aggro after stabilizing though.

Not a fan of Sunderflock as it's dead without Crab. Lanterns have been doing well. I'm uncertain whether I should get a Ral or Door somewhere...or more Sears/Broadside Barrage?

I mainly struggle with any aggro besides it's hard to race without Slagstorm or early mass Talents.

Also new to the deck so would appreciate any tips (though it doesn't seem hard)

Which version of Izzet Prowess is the best for the current Standard? [Standard]

I really only play Arena and my Dimir Mid is not up to snuff anymore. I don't have that many WCs so trying to understand the card choices.

I typically use MTGGoldfish, this looks to be the standard list?

Name Izzet Bounce

Deck

7 Island

4 Opt

4 Stormchaser's Talent

4 Burst Lightning

4 Boomerang Basics

2 Colorstorm Stallion

3 Secret Identity

3 Flow State

1 Wild Ride

2 Multiversal Passage

1 Into the Flood Maw

3 Drake Hatcher

4 Riverpyre Verge

4 Steam Vents

4 Spirebluff Canal

4 Sleight of Hand

2 Vibrant Outburst

4 Slickshot Show-Off

Sideboard

1 Colorstorm Stallion

1 Slagstorm

2 Get Out

2 Roaring Furnace // Steaming Sauna

1 Into the Flood Maw

2 Spell Pierce

1 Drake Hatcher

1 Ral, Crackling Wit

2 Soul-Guide Lantern

2 Sunspine Lynx

---

Questions

a) Why not Astrologian's Planisphere? Too slow?

b) I find Stallion underwhelming when I play against it - am I missing something? (always killed by Slickshots)

c) Why Lynx in board? Against BG?

Any good guides would also be helpful. I was toying with Excruiator but I think Prowess is just too strong.

Also, given the bursty nature of this deck, can it do well in Bo1? Then I can save on SB 😄

Should I craft a T1 deck now or wait till MSH?

I'm using an old Dimir Midrange but it's sadly outdated. I sort of want to make a new deck, but I also plan to get a lot of the new set because I think it's pretty cool.

What do you all think?
