38 [F4R] - Chronically ill nerd looking for online best friend

I miss having a best friend. Even if it's "just online" I've had that kind of connection where we chat throughout the day, send each other songs and cute animal pics, make playlists, share our creative work, have inside jokes, give each other encouragement and support.

It's so difficult to find. Most people don't like long messages, don't want to talk to someone different like me, or don't want have a friendship mostly via text. I've often been filler for people who go back to their real lives, but this is my real life.

If you happen to be someone who gels with this, feel free to reach out. I will mention that I'm looking for strictly platonic. I'm very chronically ill, neurodivergent, and disabled as well as queer so please be cool with that. I live with a partner who is also disabled. I'm homebound and that's why online friends mean a lot to me.

Not a fan of people who are weird to me about my health stuff or try to fix me or tell me to be more positive. I'm very sick and it is what it is. I want a friend who accepts me and whatever I can offer, which is music and memes and deep convos and support. I appreciate mutual effort and people who help keep the convo going.

A little more about me: I'm a writer, music nerd, love all kinds of TV, and I collect plushies. I've been through a whole lot but I try to be empathetic, socially aware, and kind as much as I can while still advocating for myself and my communities.

Please don't reach out if you're super busy, aren't looking for the same kind of connection, don't ask questions or put in effort, or if you're uncomfortable with someone who isn't able to be positive and optimistic.

I think I have a lot to offer the right friend. I hope I find them.

Disabled poet looking for friends

I'm 38F and a poet, though I've also written fiction, memoir, and essays in the past. I'm currently finishing up my first full length poetry book.

I'd really love to make some friends who are also writers. I can't do much critique because I'm very disabled and chronically ill. It impacts my ability to talk and type normally so I can't do a lot of editing but I'm happy to read a bit and give some general thoughts. Looking for the same.

I'm also happy just to chat with people and talk about writing and life, music, TV etc. Whatever we end up talking about. It would be great to have a close online friend who gets the creative stuff and we have those kind of things in common.

I'm very left leaning and queer. Please be LGBTQIA+ friendly. And I appreciate when people are sensitive and empathetic around my disabilities, and if they're not sure what to say, I'm always happy to give feedback on that.

Thanks!

38 [F4A] Online - Disabled nerd looking for close connection

I'm looking for something a bit unconventional. I'm hoping to find a connection with someone who cares and is kind. Where we enjoy talking to each other and do things like make each other playlists, exchange creative work, and vent about the world or our day.

A true online friend/bestie/QPR type connection. Mutual support and vibes.

A bit about me. I'm very chronically ill and disabled. I'm real about it. I have a lot of serious pain and limitations. I don't talk about it all the time but it's my reality. I just ask that people hold a little space and don't try to fix me, tell me to be positive, or act freaked out by me.

I also have some mental health stuff and I'm neurodivergent so I can relate to people who experience those things. I'm queer, ace, and left-leaning looking for people who are also LGBTQIA+ or friendly toward that and care about what's going on in the world as much as they can.

Because I'm homebound, my online connections mean a lot to me. I've found a lot of meaning in having an online person I'm close to. Right now I spend most of my time working on a poetry manuscript and getting ready for a move. I have a nesting partner who is also disabled.

But I'm around a lot. I listen to a ton of music. I do a little cozy gaming when I can. I watch a lot of TV and have some niche favorites (bonus points to anyone who recognizes my cover image).

If you message, please tell me a bit about yourself and maybe your favorite song or show of the moment. It helps when people engage, ask questions, show interest. I'll do the same.

I'm not the best fit for everyone, but with the right person, I think I make a good and interesting companion. I hope to hear from you.

38F going through a difficult time

I feel so discouraged from always being treated like I'm too much, too negative, and/or too sick and limited to have friends because I'm disabled and because I don't want something superficial or sporadic. Plus I'm dealing with really scary health stuff right now.

If anyone could just be nice to me for a minute and help me while I'm struggling I'd appreciate it. I love music, writing, TV, cozy gaming. We can talk about whatever. Just don't be weird please. I'm weird in my own ways but don't be creepy or low effort. I'm open to longer term friends as well but I don't expect anything anymore.

Maybe send me your current favorite song?

38[F4A] #Online - Maybe I'm not meant to have friends

I don't know why I'm posting this because I feel so down and discouraged by so many failed online friendships the last few years.

I've really tried but something always goes wrong. I'm looking for something closer and consistent than most people want and my disabilities make people awkward and uncomfortable and so does any feedback I ever give. I try to be clear who I am and that I'm complicated but people don't seem to want to understand me.

Also so many people don't put in any effort and just sit there and don't ask about me or try at all and it really bothers me.

I feel like I have something to offer the right friends. Playlists and thoughtful conversation and empathy and support and care and memes and silliness and attention.

I give these things a lot of effort. Maybe I'm picky because I have trauma and needs that are complex but I really do my best and give things a chance until I can't anymore.

But I'm starting to think maybe I need to take a break or give up and what I want doesn't really exist or is so rare it's too painful to keep trying and getting hurt. And hurting people. Maybe I can't have friends anymore. I don't know. I'm sorry.

Edit: The number of people who replied to this and then ask me nothing about myself and put in no effort is so depressing. Please don't reach out if you're going to do that. You know I don't want that. And people opening with asking about my disabilities??

[L] Disabled and in scary situation, need a little support

I'm 38. Very chronically ill and disabled. My health issues are serious and I'm between doctors and meds. I just did a big move and I'm exhausted and flared. Can't seem to make online friendships work. Fighting with my partner.

I would really appreciate chatting with somebody who could offer a little support or distraction. Most people I've been chatting with have been very sporadic or cold. I would ideally like a friend but temporary support is OK as well and I'm also happy to listen if anybody needs support in return.

I just ask for no forced positivity or hopefulness. This is a bad situation. I am looking to accept and be real and talk about it a little without anybody trying to fix it because there isn't a way to do that. I appreciate people just listening and holding space for me. I can do the same.

Please be LGBTQIA+ friendly and comfortable talking to someone disabled and neurodivergent.
