CS 50 before comp chem

Would it benefit me to first take CS50x and CS50 Introduction to Python courses, and learn coding generically first, as someone who's interested in comp chem and bioinformatics, but has absolutely zero experience in coding? Or would you suggest jumping into the core material directly and learning python alongside?

I do have strong theoretical foundations in linear algebra, differential equations and stat thermo, or so I believe.

"If your hands need to break, more than trinkets in your room. You can lean on my arm, as you break my heart" Is that a threat? /s

Is Mitski a domestic abuser? 😮 🫢 /s

I know it's probably hyperbole lol. But how do you guys interpret these lyrics?

Does anyone know how to deal with it comprehensively?

So Myenas had nested behind our AC exhaust in April and we let it because it wasn't hot back then and they had already laid before we caught a whole glimpse. The chicks matured and flew away, and we cleaned the mess. But they restarted nesting now again, and are fornicating atop the units too!? Seems like they really liked the place.

We keep destroying the nest, cleaning it and they rebuild it. We want to ensure they abandon it entirely before any eggs are laid again because that would be hard to deal with then. And it's become unbearable now without the AC running. Dry twigs are obviously a major fire hazard. Is there a way to get rid of them without any harm? Someone said a plastic net covering the whole unit, but wouldn't that be a fire hazard too?

Cloverfield is a very special FF movie

I absolutely love how much of the first act is just a romcom with warm lighting in a Manhattan apartment lol. It sets up perfectly for the devastation that follows and the characters all feel root worthy, and not the usual one-notes.

Does anyone know affordable accomodation around CSIR-IICB, SC Malik Road?

I'm travelling from Patna to Kolkata on June 8th for a summer training programme at the Institute Of Chemical Biology, but I have no idea about the accommodations around and the institute doesn't offer any. Since it is in Jadavpur, I felt this sub would be the best to ask.

PChem hot take: Entropy is far more intuitive than Gibbs Free Energy.

Entropy is popularly defined as the tendency of energy to attain randomness/scattering of energy in different microstates. And you can mathematically construct the probability of each microstate being more favourable, given enough information. Most importantly, you can feel it irl. Gibbs Free Energy? I have been using it for almost 3 years now as a second year undergraduate, and I still could not explain it to someone. I have no physical intuition of it. It seems like something defined entirely by application.

I'm utterly confused.

So A is clearly the only without a plane of symmetry. But my teacher says B is the right answer here, because cis-(1,2)-dimethylcyclohexanes are enantiomeric despite their achirality. But I don't understand the reason why? I drew out all the structures and B clearly had a plane of symmetry.

I am struggling a bit with this. I'm getting the answer a, but some of my friends say it will be b

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a is the only option here that has no plane of symmetry? While the others do. Should that not disqualify them all from being 'enantiopure'? I'm being told that (1,2)-dimethylcyclohexanes have a special case of cis compounds being enantiomeric while trans being not. But I don't understand how? I drew all the structures and a is the only option without a plane of symmetry.

For me, it's no contest. It'd be a great injustice for me if she didn't win for this. Although, I admit I haven't liked her last two performances as much as most of my cinephiles friends.

I'm just halfway through the anime, and omg! I couldn't even conceive of such incredible sound in animation. Every crackle of electricity, whirring of the monitor, every digitised voice is so so well done and adds to the weird nature of the anime so much. Not to mention, the iconic soundtrack. This definitely has the best sound design in any animation I've seen so far.

Spirocompounds are famous for their non-traditional chirality, when there's two mutually perpendicular rings, and the vertically opposite constituents are different like in picture 1.

But what if there are three/multiple rings instead like the dispirodecane in picture 2. Would it even matter if the constituents were all different, as in a≠b≠c≠d? I suppose no, because you would get a plane of symmetry either way from the vertical direction? Would I have to worry about the substituents on the planar rings to identify optical activity then?
