The reactionary nature of this fanbase is why DCU will struggle even after hot streaks
To preface this, please keep this civil. This is just my opinion. It’s not my intention to hurt anyone. At the end of the day, we all want to celebrate the movies and enjoy them.
Yes, Supergirl bombed. Yes, it was mediocre. There were many flaws in the movie. But you know what was actually good? Superman. Creature Commandos. Peacemaker. You could say the finale was hit or miss, but it was definitely not universally disliked upon. The project was very good throughout.
And now we have Lanterns coming up, and the trailer was well received. The recent one, at least. But you know what I mostly see here? “Supergirl bombed.” “Spider-Man earned X amount.” “Superman could never.” “James Gunn does not know how to handle a universe.”
Look. I’m not going to excuse WB, a multi-billion dollar franchise. But, even though James Gunn is loaded and doesn’t have to do any of this for his lifetime, I believe he is at his core an artist. An artist who is trying to craft a universe in his own way. Supergirl was one failure. One.
Come on guys, one failed project. And you quickly hop back to glazing the DCEU? Do you guys remember how pathetic the DCEU was? We got a rushed, badly done Justice League. Yes the Snyder Cut was good, but if you check Parts 2 and 3, the story sounded nothing like these characters. It was a glorified fan fiction that Snyder wanted to create. It’s not even as if Zack went ahead and had more successful projects with Netflix. Almost everything he has made post ZSJL has flopped. So firstly, let’s not act as if the DCEU was a missed opportunity and the DCU is cooked. It’s really not.
Now, coming to Supergirl, yeah. The movie was mediocre, especially when James Gunn has been so vocal about mediocre movies. But I feel he has earned enough goodwill to get at least one pass. If Supergirl was a good movie, I doubt the narrative would have been “introducing a character like Supergirl this early on does not make sense.” I also do not think introducing the trinity always works, especially when the idea of the DCU isn’t a team up movie, and everyone dealing a major, common threat. I also think Clayface is a great idea. Everyone used to complain how the MCU prioritises IPs without scripts. And now when James is trying to do something different, people are hating on that too? The grass is always greener, guys.
Also, the Spider-Man comparison is just funny to me. Not only is Spidey arguably the most popular superhero ever, we’ve seen this Spidey in action for a decade. You cannot compare apples with oranges.
Trying to improve my character design, please critique this
Please critique the anatomy of both the characters in my artwork
Gimbal to record art process videos
Hi! I am an artist wanting to make shorts/reels of my art videos. Just 20 seconds in total, with 2-3 second shots. I have a gooseneck, and the bluetooth remote, but honestly, it’s a pain to constantly wait for the wobbling to stop, plus unclamp the phone and check the footage. It takes me out of the drawing process. I have tried a proper tripod, and naturally, the same thing happens. A C-stand is ineffective since my setup is on an easel.
I like recording these short shots with my second hand, while drawing. However, my second hand is very shaky, resulting in the video being shaky. Would a gimbal be useful for this? I know it may seem overkill, but at this point, I would rather invest in something like a gimbal than make my drawinf process miserable.
I have tried stabilizing too, but none of the mobile ones work well. Since the footage is art, it ends up distorting/reducing the quality of the footage.
Edit: I am looking for a phone gimbal
[Discussion] Is there a market for filler art?
Okay, let me explain. I like fantasy and superheroes. I love comic books, and I do enjoy heavy action and stuff.
But I enjoy seeing these fantastical characters experience their day to day lives way more. For example, the ATLA’s Tales of Ba Sing Sae episode stood out to me way more. It’s just nice.
So I was wondering if, as a creator, is there a marker where people would buy prints, or read such cozy/low stakes light action comics of fantastical characters experiencing human life? Breakups, dates, etc.
What do you think? Is this a good niche to stick to, or should I explore?
