What happens if 2025 taxes are still being processed during the 2026 tax season

Mailed in an 2025 original return back in May after getting notice from IRS requesting an original 1040 (after amended taxes was screwed up) and currently the processing time is for May for mailed returns.

If this whole process drags out obviously we just still file 2026 taxes next year as normal? Or if this 2025 isn’t processed by then (hopefully will be) then does that cause backup when filing for 2026 returns?

The return was mailed with certified mail and we got a text stating it was handed off to someone with a signature 5/27 but since the amended return issue was messed up, the online tracking tool doesn’t work for us. I keep always checking the irs account and transcript but would they reach back out if they still somehow misplaced it or lost it? I have no way of knowing unless I can miraculously get through a call if they started processing it or not or what stage of processing it’s in or if it’s even being looked at.

1% interest rate reduction

Does anyone know if there is a “deadline” to get or qualify for the 1% interest rate reduction?

How would that apply if you have several unconsolidated loans with different rates?

Standard plan and consolidation

I am planning on choosing the standard plan out of SAVE. I have 8 smaller loans with rates between 2.050% and 5.050% totaling $18,000. I have never consolidated before.

When you apply for the standard plan does it make you consolidate them? My friend who applied a few days ago said it made her consolidate hers but I thought you didn’t have to?

Dishwasher filter area filled with water

We have an LG dishwasher and I went to clean off the cylinder looking filter when I noticed the hole/area where the filter sits is filled with a few inches of water. Is this normal or is it a sign of a clog somewhere? Thanks! 😊

How many of you are on the standard plan or plan to be after SAVE?

Just curious to see who has been or is going to be choosing the standard plan over IBR when the time to come off of SAVE happens?

I personally am going to choose the standard plan as IBR is about $140 more than my standard amount, and even though IBR gets capped my loan balance is on the lower end (18,000) so there’s no point in draining away money in interest until forgiveness. I’m hoping to apply more to my monthly minimums which would roughly be $240 to get this paid within the next few years.

How to fix hole in shower grout?

I noticed these two holes on the floor of our tile shower and am wondering if this can be fixed ourselves?

Can I use silicone caulking? Should I get grout stuff and if yes what is it called? Can it be found at Lowe’s or HomeDepot?

Capping at standard payment

If you are on an IDR and MFJ (spouse has no loans) does your IDR payment still cap at the standard plan amount as it would if you didn’t have a spouse or MFS?

Say the standard payment is $250 but on IDR MFJ the payment is $600 it would still cap at that $250 amount?

Need reassurance about tax situation.

Edit: this post has nothing to do with reasons why we amended etc…I’m strictly concerned about the levy part of tax process.

If anyone can kindly help me. I have OCD/anxiety with intrusive thoughts and with our tax preparer messing up my spouses taxes it has me in a spiral about being worried they’ll levy our house.

They wrongly filed my husband as an amended return in FEBRUARY when I had already amended our original return. So months later we get a notice my husband has to submit an original 1040 which we do by mail as his SSN was still attached to his 1040x that couldn’t process. He owed $1,206 which he paid by irs account in march but they’re refunding it to me supposedly.

We mailed the 1040 end of may (I know they’re processing April). So it’s now months after the deadline and his return hasn’t even been looked at with a balance owed and now I’m convinced our house is going to become levied even though he paid months ago and it’s getting sent back as a refund and we’re waiting until his 1040 is processed to see what they do with all the money swapping and then obviously he’ll pay what’s owed.

Any reassurance is appreciated. When I spiral I can always look back at comments to ease my mind. Thank you all!

GEICO driveeasy but my husband is a deputy

So my husband and I share the same policy and we enrolled in driveeasy because it saved us a lot of money. We both have the GEICO app on our phone and it tracks obviously how we drive.

My score is great, my husbands not so much because he is a sheriffs deputy and has to get to calls quickly etc…. We’re worried that his bad score is going to affect our next policy renewal.

We called GEICO and asked if maybe there was a plug in device he could put in his personal vehicle instead of tracking from his phone when he’s on shift. That’s not an option. Has anyone else gone through this? We also try turning off his location for GEICO app before he works his shifts but then we get told we’re going to lose our discount.

This is so frustrating. Just hoping it doesn’t raise our premium when he can’t always control the driving situation.

Hoping I don’t get this refund that’s showing on my transcript.

Long story short my husband and I amended MFJ to MFS in February. I was the primary on the amended return and it got processed. The tax professional we saw screwed up and filed him a 1040x which should’ve been a 1040. He made a payment through his IRS account in march for what he owed which was $1,206. I got refunded $846 in April.

We mailed his 1040 and the got it delivered 5/27. I know they are currently only processing April returns. Well when I look at MY transcript it’s showing they are refunding me what he had to owe. “Refund issued 7/6” with the amount he already paid them.

I spoke to the irs 3 weeks ago and the $1,206 payment was on hold and was told that basically his return had to process before they could assign that money to his ssn. At that time it didn’t show I was going to receive his money he paid and I’m expecting it to take another 2 months for his paper return to be processing.

I’m hoping I don’t get that money back because then what? If I get a check for $1,206 and use that to repay what my husband owes AGAIN, then it will be considered late payment even though it was originally paid in march but it got refunded?? I’ve spent all day trying to call.

Question regarding quarterly taxes

I work several PRN jobs that don’t automatically withhold federal taxes. I usually try to work the same hours per pay period so that the withholding I have set on my W4 is accurate. But if I work more during a pay period than planned then I am not withholding enough money.

If I pay whatever the difference is on my irs account quarterly for the missing withholding, is there forms I have to fill out? I usually file with freetaxUSA but never came across needing to do this before. What happens during tax season? will they ask if I have made quarterly payments while filing?

Wanting to save in a HYSA

Hi all! What accounts are good for starting a HYSA? I have about $10k to put into one right now. Is there any disadvantages with having one? Such as having to report it on taxes and paying taxes on the interest it gives you? I have no idea how it works. Any advice is great.

Flex seal

Wondering for hurricane season….has anybody used flex seal or some other type of waterproofing tape/seal around their doors to prevent water from getting inside?? I think it’s a great idea, maybe I’m wrong lol. I’m wondering how difficult it would be to remove afterwards.

Edit: yes I know it won’t 100% stop flooding, yes I know we chose to live in FL. Theoretical question for funsies

Flood insurance

What are some good companies or places to ask for quotes for flood insurance. Looking at a 909sq ft condo in zone AE. So far we got quoted a little over $2,400 😭 this is so ridiculous. Any recommendations?

Standard payment amount

My standard payment is less than what IBR is and since I only owe about $18,300 I’m not going to aim for forgiveness.

When I put my unconsolidated loans, there are 8, into an amortization calculator (so payoff year and interest rate and balance of each loan) when all loans added up it equals $250. Is that covering interest and what my payments would be for each month correct? I want to make sure it’s covering interest and principle which I will also try and put more towards principal when I can but I want to be able to see it make some movement.

MFJ with W4 set as single

If my husband and I make similar incomes both between $65k to $66k and we file jointly can we leave our W4 to single? We have no dependents and would take the standard deduction. But with the standard deduction wouldn’t that put us below the 22% and into the 12%?

I don’t mind withholding some extra, I just don’t want to under withhold. It’s been hard to gauge because 2025 season my husband got a big one time bonus and we ended up owing over $1k and the prior year we weren’t married.

What happens in the future years if he keeps getting pay raises and makes up to say $72k and I’m still at $65k? Is that too much of an income difference to not choose single anymore?

Is choosing single and married filing jointly with line 2C filled out the same thing? In what scenario would we have to not choose single anymore? Thanks! 😊

Need opinions, scared of underpayment penalties with PRN work

So here is my situation- I work a full time w2 job and make $64k AGI, w4 set to single. My husband is roughly the same and also single W4. We will MFJ.

I also hold 2 other PRN jobs that DON’T automatically take out federal taxes. I try to not work multiple days in the same pay period to make it easier with withholding. Also note that I only like to do roughly 4 hour days at each place.

PRN #1 is $35/hr and I withhold $29 per check (that amount is based off of 4 hours of work) so if I were to work say 8 hours in the same pay period then I am under withholding by another $29 ish.

PRN #2 is $37/hr and I withhold $33 per check. Same applies to only doing 4 hours per pay period. This job is newer so I still have to do orientation days which would be about 16hrs in the pay period which means I will be short $98 in withholdings.

My plan was to just put whatever withholding I’m missing into a savings account to then pay when it’s tax season. But then I learn about under withholding penalties and now I’m worried.

\\\* I do not want to withhold from my full time job extra because there are times I may choose not to work PRN and then I’m just having extra money taken from my check for no reason. \\\*

ChatGPT said I should be fine because between my husband and I we paid over $12k in taxes 2025 between our full time jobs and then like $375 from my one PRN that I choose to withhold since it doesn’t automatically. So I know about the safe harbor rules but I guess idk what to do since the PRN jobs are all over the place.

Thank you for reading all of this!
