Will D+Q reprint the yoshiharu tsuge books?

I've completely fallen in love with this guy's work after reading the man without talent.

I have the swamp, oba electroplating and rolled up like a squid on the way.

But I really, really want red flowers and it's completely sold out without any decent priced second hand versions.

Do you think it'll get a reprint?

Where's the good chicken doner in town now?

Used to be that Antalya's was always good for chicken doner and chips after a night out but that's long gone.

I've no idea where's good now, think it's been replaced by Mr cook which looks terrible but I'd try it if people said it's good.

Any good recommendations for kebab places that are actually spot on after a few beers and not just a slab of meat from the factory?

This is getting too much

Taken from a Facebook group.

How is it that you can ride an illegal bike, hurt a child in a children's park (!) and still be able to show off in front of the police with near zero repurcussions?

Surely if we're at the point where you're hurting little kids you're universally recognised as scum?

There has to be a task force to deal with this and that includes protection for the police if the riders get hurt while trying to stop them. Prosecuting parents and removing housing and benefits also a good option.

I think leasing a new car for me is a better option than buying second hand. What do you think?

So I have a 4 year old, a 1 year old and another baby due in November.

My current car simply won't fit the additional pram bassinet and car seat, so a new car is a necessity really.

The other critical thing to consider - my mortgage rate is currently 3.94% and is due for renewal in March 2028. I currently have £100k in savings earning between 4-5% interest tax free. I currently save between £3 - £3.5k a month. That will go down when my wife goes on maternity.

But regardless of that - in March 2028 I'll owe about £160k and I will essentially be able to pay the vast majority of it off if I stick to the current plan.

This is where I think it becomes a sensible option to lease in the short term.

Yes of course I could buy a 15 year old 7 seater shitbox that might last two years that I dump. Even that will probably run me £10k or more. I don't want to do it. I want peace of mind, I want safety and I want comfort. Having three small children in a car on a long trip is bad enough already.

There are some decent cars where I can get a monthly lease for about £250 - £310 a month with between a £2-4k down payment.

Given that reduces my monthly savings down to about £3.2k - that doesn't really push out my savings target too much. However, these aren't cars I would buy outright if I had the choice.

These cars have a list price of £30k. Laying out that kind of cash for something I don't really want and that impacts my mortgage goal just seems annoying. The cars I really want are 50k+.

It seems sensible to me to lease for £300 a month, slightly reduce the total amount I save over the next 17-20 months and then when the mortgage is paid down - look at buying the car I've been paying down or just hand it back and decide the next steps.

I am also not bothered about having a tiny mortgage vs paying it off. A mortgage on £15k with a tiny monthly payment would be just fine.

It seems crazy to me that leasing a new car makes more sense than buying used. But that just seems to be the way the market works, especially with low interest finance - why not? I keep my cash and keep earning interest on it too.

In an ideal world I'd get cheap finance on a used car, but that doesn't seem to exist - that all seems to coming in at about 7-9% unless I'm doing something wrong.

What do people think, does my logic add up?

New to leasing privately and overwhelmed by the options, any tips?

I've only ever had two cars:

  1. A 2017 plate Toyota Auris I bought in 2019 for cash which is still going strong (although it needs ever more work doing)

  2. Leased an EV via a work scheme.

For various reasons I want to start looking at a PCP (or maybe PCH) deal on a car, targeting a monthly cost of about £200-300 a month for the range of cars I'm looking at (7 seaters).

There's a few things that have shocked me.

  1. I'm spending shit-tons of cash here. Why is that 'deals' exist that are time limited. I'm not buying sausages in a supermarket, I'd be really pissed off if I signed up to a 2 year finance deal but if I'd waited a month I'd have got a 20% reduction in price. How am I ever supposed to predict this, or do people just take the best deal they can at the time they take it? Do they compare to historical deals? How do they do that comparison?

  2. Can I really only get decent finance on a new car? I am happy with used cars and would take a deal, but the finance on used just doesn't seem worth it - the interest rates are really high. It seems like it'd be better just buying used out right. Does anyone lease used cars?

  3. How the fuck do I naivgate these deals? This isn't the same as looking at a bank account on money saving supermarket. There seems to be endless websites I've never heard of and an infinite number of brokers. Do I just use leaseloco in the same way I'd just assume comparethemarket has complete coverage? Or do people really go hunting for deals across multiple sites? Any recommendations on good sites to use?

Completely stuck on new car with third on the way

I have a 4 year old, a 1 year old and our next is due in November.

Our current car simply won't fit three car seats let alone a pram with an additional bassinet seat.

I've been looking at 7 seaters with a back row and one thing I can't figure out - if I have my newborn and 1 year old in the middle row, how am I supposed to help my 4 year old with his seat belt in the back row? Can you even move the chairs to get in if there's a car seat on them?

Another thing is that I'm looking for cheap lease deals, a used kia EV9 seems like it'd solve a lot of problems but it's £50k used. For various reasons I don't want to spaff that kind of cash out right, I'd rather be paying for a lease or buying something really cheap so that I can keep saving and do a big mortgage downpayment in about 20 months when my deal is up.

I'm new to all this car buying business though, all I've ever done is buy a car and run it into the ground or get an EV via a work lease scheme (not an option now). I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. I only see good leasing deals on brand new cars like the MGS9 or Peugeot 5008 - but leasing a used car seems like a nightmare with really high interest - is it even possible?

I'm looking for a 7 seater because I'd really like an extra seat and I also like the flexibility to allow my wife to sit in the back with the kids, especially the newborn.

Does anyone have any tips on what they've done in a similar scenario?

X9 pricing confirmed for Britain

£75-85k depending on the model.

Too rich for my blood and I live in quite a high earning household (£130k per year) so not sure who they're targeting, maybe luxury chauffer rather than families?

Will eating out of date gulyaskrem kill me?

found a tube of gulyaskrem csipos in the back of a kitchen cupboard that went out of date in 2024...

The seal is still intact so it hasn't been opened at all. Is this like tinned food where the date is just a side effect of a legal necessity or do you think there's stuff in there that could kill me?

Did any Norwegians get their X9 yet?

I think Norway was the first country in Europe that could order the X9, I was just wondering if any had actually turned up to customers yet or have the delays continued?

Talk me out of buying a used Kia EV9

My family is growing and I'm going to have 3 children all under 5 very soon (4, 12 months and newborn). There might be more after that.

I want a six or seven seater and I want something comfortable that's good for long road trips.

The Kia EV9 six seater seems to hit all the notes. High level of comfort and space in all rows. Easy to get to the back row. Plenty of boot space with the back seats up. Great range and nice to drive. And critically - it's been out for two years so you can get it for £25-30k down from the new price.

I know everyone will say get a van, but the vans have much worse range, lower comfort and most importantly my wife said she's not driving a van.

Ioniq 9 is on the list but since it's new the price is substantially higher and I can't eat that kind of depreciation.

I intend to own the car for a long time and rack up some decent miles.

I'm looking at various other secen seater phevs but none of them have the same mix of comfort, range, size and price. Some are cheaper but the back seats are smaller.

Some are big but they're not as comfortable.

So, I'm looking at spending £50k on a used EV. Please talk me out of it and into an option that gives me everything I need for cheaper. Even if it's not an EV.

How do I purchase a liability (fancy car) in a financially responsible way?

So with many thanks to this sub, I have my personal finances in good order.

TL;DR - I've seen a car I want that's going to cost £50k. It's a second hand EV. Is it sensible to just buy it outright? Or is it wise to get finance to offset depreciation? If I got finance should I get insurance to cover the monthly payments or an exit fee? Should i put down a large deposit? I know nothing about car finance

---

Currently I have a large chunk of savings (80k) in cash ISAs with an interest rate that's higher than my mortgage rate.

The plan was always to put that money down on remortgage when my 5 year rate expires and get a much shorter term.

However I recently returned an EV that I leased via a work scheme and loved it. I'm in the market for a big car as my family is growing and I've seen a car for £50k.

I don't want to lease another car through the scheme because I despise being tied to my employer. If they annoy me I want the freedom to quit. The contract reads that if i do that under the lease I'm liable for the cost of it

However my history of buying cars for myself is typical of this sub - buy the cheapest most reliable car you can and run it into the ground.

I have no idea what to do when it comes to luxury purchases for myself. Is buying outright sensible? What about depreciation? I'm buying second hand so some depreciation is eaten but how far will it go? Does it matter if I intend to keep it for years? Is PCP better so that I can keep my cash pile and have the option to buy later?

I could keep going with the questions but really, are there any tips and tricks people can offer for how to spend money wisely on a liability?

Considering biting the bullet and going for the EV9 - any tips on buying second hand EVs?

So I'm in the market for a 6 or 7 seater to handle lots of passengers (between 3 and 4 in the back) - 3 of them likely child seats.

I think I've settled on the 6 seater EV9 as the EV that ticks the majority of my boxes:

  1. I can buy secondhand since it's been out longer than nearly all its rivals, so I can get a good price. It also generally has the advantage of being available to buy, unlike the Lucid Gravity, Model Y L or Xpeng X9

  2. It has the best range, I love the ID Buzz but the range is awful in comparison. As is the PV5 and Maxus Mifa 9.

  3. I can put one seat down in the back for extra space in the boot if needed and still carry 3 passengers back there.

  4. The back row is easily accessible with the six seater variant which is really useful since the seats behind the driver will both have car seats attached for many years. I looked at the Peugeot 5008 and getting my son into the back row seems like so much more of a hassle vs the six seater.

Happy to do a 'change my view' if anyone thinks there's a better model out there that ticks the same boxes?

Also does anyone have any tips on buying a second hand EV? I'm cautious about dropping this much cash on a vehicle, I've never done it before.

Is it better to lease or buy outright? Since I'm looking at spending £50k I've heard people say that you can actually do quite well on a lease as it can account for the cost of depreciation, is that true, or if you can afford it - is it always best to just put as much money down as possible?

What about haggling on price? Is it reasonable to do this, or will I just get laughed out by the salesman?

What kind of checks should I be running on the car? I've heard people talk about running checks to see if it's been in accident, battery health checks - do I need to buy these myself? Can the dealer provide the information?

I don't think I'll entertain buying from a private seller unless it's a steep discount, I assume it's better to buy from Kia directly as I think they offer a warranty up to 7 years or 100,000 miles - that seems like a very sensible option. Which in turns seems like a good reason to aim for a lower mileage or 2025 model instead of 2024 if the price is right.

In general - is there anything else I should look out for when buying a second hand EV? What would you guys be checking for if you were going to spend this kind of cash?

Going to consider biting the bullet very soon - any British owners here?

I've been looking for practical six and seven seater EVs that are available in the UK and I'm pretty sure the six seater EV9 ticks all my boxes more than anything else going.

  1. I can buy secondhand since it's been out longer than nearly all it's rivals, so I can get a good price. It also generally has the advantage of being available to buy, unlike the Lucid Gravity, Model Y L or Xpeng X9

  2. It has the best range, I love the ID Buzz but the range is awful. As is the PV5 and Maxus Mifa 9.

  3. I can put one seat down in the back for extra space in the boot (trunk) if needed and still carry 3 passengers back there.

  4. The back row is easily accessible with the six seater variant which is really useful since the seats behind the driver will both have car seats attached for many years. I looked at the Peugeot 5008 and getting my son into the back row seems like so much more of a hassle vs the six seater.

From what I understand the upgrades between years have been minimal, so I'm not missing out on getting any build upgrades or features by going for a 2024 or 2025 registration.

To anyone based in the UK - do you think I've missed anything in my analysis? Do you think there's a model out there I'm missing that I should look at?

To everyone - what do you think I should be looking out for when buying second hand? I know there's a lot of talk of 'lemons' - I'm not sure if it all works the same way in the UK, though I assume it's going to be better buying a KIA certified pre-owned vehicle.

I want to buy the tomytec ngauge bus system, the starter kit is an oval - which is great, but I'd like to buy two so that I can set them up moving in separate directions.

However I need to buy some extra track - i figure i would need straights and curves to add to the starter kit to create a bugger oval.

But I'm not sure how much to buy or what size - would it be these? https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/aw/d/B0BLH826W1/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AN1VRQENFRJN5&psc=1

Or maybe these? Which look bigger?

And from then on. It's just a thousand years of people from the same tiny area of one island.

I have to get a six or seven seater as my next car, my family is growing so it's the only option.

I love Tesla tech and previously had a model y, I've been in the ev9 and ioniq9 they're awesome cars but they feel so last generation inside.

The Chinese MPVs look great but the X9 isn't happening and the Maxus has terrible range. As does the ID Buzz.

Model Y L ticks all my boxes but I can't buy it here! I also would love to have FSD, but I know that's unlikely to come in 2026.

I'm going to be forced to bite the bullet in about November/December. Could hold on a little longer with known release date.

What do you guys think? Model Y L likely here or look at some other models? One great thing about the EV9 - some great used deals.
