Hi, back with my collection of vintage recipe card library. This is my Betty Crocker recipe card library from 1971. Very interesting stuff. Before you say anything this is of its era and as a result some stuff some people might find offensive and sexist but again it is of its era. hopefully this doesn’t get taken down. If so it’s totally understandable. This is strictly sharing vintage recipes.
I chopped up some carrots, celery, and onions and sautéed before adding a splash of white wine and garlic. Then added chicken stock and I also threw in a can of Campbells tomato that I had. Once the veggies had softened I blended it a bit with an immersion blender. Cooked broken up lasagna noodles until ready. Took it off the heat and added a splash of cream, grated parm and some baby spinach.
I got this amazingly quality copy of the Outdoor Cookbook. It is the first edition second printing.
Anyone have this? Have you cooked out of it?
I made this delicious pasta from Ina’s “Modern Comfort Food” Book. It was very good. She doesn’t miss for sure. This one is going in the rotation for sure.
I made a version of Ina Garten’s Summer Clam Skillet.
When did you first cook from a Betty book or try a recipe? Whose book do you have passed down to you now? What was your favorite box mix dessert? Share your memories!
What is your favorite or go-to Betty Crocker recipe? What book is it in? Post it if you have it.
One of our members had a great idea…how would everyone feel about people volunteering to post one recipe that they made from one of the cookbooks from their Betty collection?
I could make a permanent pinned post to “sign up” for a week or I could make a weekly post to ask for volunteers?
Thoughts? I am trying to get this sub more active and love and appreciate all of the Betty Crocker content and connection so far.
Also please feel free to comment on any other ideas for this sub!
We are on a Disney Cruise (our 22nd!) and on my favorite ship, The Fantasy. As a lamb I love this ship more because Mariah is the godmother and there is a cute little pic near guest services.
Did anyone else grow up with this plate in their household? We always had it out for birthdays, special celebrations for school to work, and just when someone deserved a little praise.
I know the plates have been made since 1832. Mine is from the 90s and my Mom’s is from the 80s.
Pan seared salmon over smoked Gouda polenta and topped with a lemon old bay butter.
I have a ton of Free Book rewards on ThriftBooks that expire quickly so I grab random books to be able to put a free one in my cart. I got this basically new Williams and Sonoma book about “New England”. It has some great classic recipes in it.

I was able to thrift this off of someone on Mercari. It is in great shape and such a fun Betty Crocker cookbook. I included a few fun pages and recipes.

Yummy quick egg drop soup for lunch. I had some homemade turkey stock in the freezer and it added great flavor.
For those that asked. Here are some pages and recipes from the sauces section of the 1941 James Beard book “Cook It Outdoors.” The majority of the chapter is bbq sauce recipes.
As requested here are some highlights from the baking outdoors section of the James Beard book, Cook it Outdoors
