I spent 3 years making a life sim inspired by BitLife - Would love honest feedback

I’ve been building a life sim game and finally got around to releasing it a little while ago. I had surgery a while back and was bedridden for recovery. That’s where my passion for life sim games started and eventually as a software engineer myself I took on the task of making a super duper awesome one.

I’m not saying the game is perfect but I've added some unique features and I’m at a stage where I’m extremely pleased with what I’ve built and wanted to share it. I’ve already received some great feedback which is awesome

I’d really appreciate honest feedback. What works, what doesn’t work, and ideas for how to make it better

I made a life sim because BitLife started annoying me

I used to really like BitLife, but over time it started annoying me.

Not because the idea is bad. The idea is great. I just feel like the base game started to feel less exciting unless you buy extra content.

I do not think paid packs are bad. Games need to make money, and extra paths can be worth paying for if they feel meaningful. But when too much of the fun stuff is separate, the base game can start to feel a bit empty.

I also really hate surprise ads. I dont mind monetisation when its clear, but random interruptions always make me quit.

And the whole praying to the BitLife devs thing always felt weird and off putting to me. IS IT JUST ME?

Seeing people complain about the MMA update made me realise a lot of players still really want good life sim content, but they also want it to feel fair and fun.

So I ended up making my own mobile life sim called Life Authority.

It is still early and I am improving it a lot, but I wanted to make something where the base game feels playable, choices matter, and paid content feels like extra depth rather than the only interesting part. Theres also no surprise ads and its a lot more wholesome than the crazy stuff BitLife gives. Also family friendly!

I would love some feedback on what I can improve and do better!

Do you prefer shorter or longer stories?

Hey all, been making stories for my life sim game to make it as engaging and immersive as possible.

BitLife has quite short stories so I thought I’d add some more specifics and details to hopefully liven it up and make it seem more real.

How do you guys find it? Is it too long? Or not exciting enough? I get told my stories are too wholesome so might have to make them more extreme

Suggestions for my life sim game: Life Authority

Hey all,

I will begin working on the next update pretty soon. I’m quite happy with the current version. It’s very stable and as far as I know bug free!

I want to ask everyone what they’re after in this game or life sims in general so I can improve it for you all!

The biggest thing to work on is having achievements/aspirations and challenges for each life you play which will help players find purpose and have a goal for each life.

Let me know what you want to see next. In the meantime enjoy this funny video I made

Should business paths in life sims like BitLife be easy money or full of risk and drama?

Business paths in life sims like BitLife are fun, but they can get boring really fast if it’s just:

sell product → make money → sell more product → make more money.

Don’t get me wrong, watching the number go up is fun. I’m not pretending it isn’t.

But for me the interesting part is when the business starts causing actual problems. Bad investments, staff drama, reputation taking a hit, lawsuits, expanding too quickly etc.

I ended up making my own mobile life sim partly because I kept thinking about this. It made me realise how hard it is to make business feel powerful without overdoing it

If money solves everything, life gets too easy. But if business is just random punishment, nobody wants to bother with it. Currently Im looking into ways to spice it up.

I think the best version is where business gives you bigger choices, but also much bigger ways to ruin your life. If you have any suggestions to put into my game, Id be glad to note them down!

Three weeks ago I shared my life simulation game here and the response was honestly incredible. A lot of people downloaded it, gave feedback, reported bugs, suggested features, and helped shape the direction of the game so a big thank you!

I’ve spent the last few weeks working through that feedback and have released some bug updates and working on an exciting one at the moment!

Some of the biggest changes include:

-Better family and relationship interactions
-More realistic life events and outcomes
-Improved career progression and balancing
-Stocks and crypto investing is new
-Expanded character creation and made some of it free
-Better overall progression and gameplay flow
-A large number of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements

One of my favourite things about life sims has always been the random yearly events so I spent a lot of time rewriting and making them into short stories as well as incorporating people and assets related to the players world.

I’d love another round of honest feedback from people who enjoy life simulation games. What’s good and what’s bad. What feels repetitive and what would make you play it more?

Thanks again to everyone who gave feedback the first time around. A lot of the improvements in this update came directly from suggestions here.

Ps. Working on the next update which includes military option and jobs and also something really unique. It’s in-game notifications. I got the idea from probably my favourite game Crusader Kings II. So now you can get alerts like ‘you haven’t spoken to your father in 2 years’ or ‘your rent accounts for 70% of your salary so watch out’ I think this’ll add much more depth and immersiveness. I’m also adding relationship feeling boxes, so you can see how other characters currently feel about you based on your bond, last interaction, traits, and history. It’s all about adding more depth! So stay tuned for that!

Let me know what you guys think!

A quick note on monetisation: I know not everyone likes subscriptions. This is my first game and I’m still learning, but the support so far has genuinely motivated me to keep building. I’ve also added a lifetime option (although pricey) but there’s a 3-day trial for anyone who wants to try it properly first. Make sure you cancel if you don’t enjoy it!

Yes I did use AI for the pixel art. Firstly because it’s low cost. I don’t have money like that for a genuinely good artist and also they’re really hard to find I’ve realised. I also suck at art. Who knows what the future holds though. I’ll try! For those who preferred the older non-AI home screen, I brought it back as a classic view toggle in settings. I’m listening to feedback! (Last pic)

[DEV] hi I spent 3 years making a life sim inspired by BitLife and I’m proud of it!

Like the title says, I’ve been building a mobile life sim game called Life Authority and finally got around to releasing it. I had surgery a while back and was bedridden for recovery. That’s where my passion for life sim games started and eventually as a software engineer myself I took on the task of making a super duper awesome one.

What I really enjoy playing are the different paths you can play like becoming famous through social media, business management, athletic career and politics etc which is what I’ve included each with their own progression systems.

I’m not saying the game is perfect but I’m at a stage where I’m extremely pleased with what I’ve built and wanted to share it. It’s been gaining traction fast so far and I’ve already received some great feedback and I’m continuing to add features based on player feedback.

I’d love a round of honest feedback from people who enjoy life simulation games. What’s good and what’s bad. What feels repetitive and what would make you play it more?
