Budget Aliens (1986 movie) Colonial Marine Cosplay parts suggestions

While the armor parts aren't screen accurate to Aliens (1986), they're pretty suggestive and already decorated and ready-to-wear. No armor kit to assemble or paint!

For all-day comfort, I'd skip the helmet, wear a military-style cap or simple doo-rag, and omit a weapon. The thing that will really sell this cosplay as an Aliens tribute is the Facehugger. When taking photos, pose the Facehugger like it's attacking you or as if you're trying to prevent it from attacking another person in the picture.

I have that armor in the solid colors, and it is indeed small-sized, but good for cosplaying, if you're not a large or tall person.

Inaction figures from the early 2000s

These are vinyl statue/figures about 6.5" (16.5cm) tall from Alpha. They're Shirow Masamune's Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost In The Shell and Deunan Knute from Appleseed.

Decades ago, I screwed the feet of these figures onto plastic bases cup tops, ya know, to give them some class LOL. The figure with the white trench coat had a standing problem as the ankles would give and figure would lean over, like Michael Jackson for "Smooth Criminal".

If you ever do find a white-trench coat figure in original packaging, I'd suggest leaving it intact that way. If you try to put it on the shelf, it prolly won't be stable.

I couldn't wait for the new Fuchikoma toys, models, and statues, so I just made my own from LEGO

This is made from all genuine LEGO elements, an eclectic mix of 20-year-old vintage pieces and current production parts.

Mythosaur magnet I made from a stranger's gift

Years ago, a stranger at Wondercon in Anaheim gave me a small Mythosaur 3D-printed trinket because I was wearing a Star Wars themed cosplay. I eventually turned the small gift into a fridge magnet.

May the Force of others be with you, kind stranger.

Micronauts (MOC-ronauts?)

"They came from Inner Space..." is the tag-line from the Micronauts Marvel comic-book based on the vintage action-figure toys produced by Mego/Takara in the latter half of the 20th century. The comic-book idea was that the toys were the actual size of the characters, micro-sized people.

I do plan to make vehicles for these figures, probably not based on the original toy line, more likely futuristic motorcycles. That's why they don't have a crotch - makes it easier to pose them straddling a motorcycle-type ride.

Pulse Rifles at Daiso

Kinda cool that the Aliens Pulse Rifle is so iconic that little kids' water guns are patterned after it.

If I had kids, I would probably insist that they play out a summer game of Colonial Marines (with a water gun and one water balloon grenade) versus acid-spitting Xenomorphs (with a bucket of water-balloons).

But then, I'd be a terrible Dad, because I would've let them watch the movies a little too early. Just the first two movies.

Found a little Jameson cyborg toy

IIRC this came in one of the the GITS: SAC DVD box sets.

Ever gone into a Goodwill or thrift store and seen a shell full of old-fashioned knick-knack resin and ceramic statuettes and there's a whole section of themed whimsical figures, like pigs or elephants? I imagine that in a a few decades those shelves will be filled with anime figures and look more like a Bookoff store. I wonder if someone will find this little Jameson cyborg figure in there and say, "My weird grand-uncle used to collect stuff like this!"

Everything new is old again! LEGO Fuchikoma

The new animated series, with it's throwback mecha-design, inspired me to revisit my old Fuchikoma in LEGO BrickLink Studio and come up with this model.

I've made over half-a-dozen BrickLink orders so I can try to piece it together in real life. It's put together with some vintage out-of-production pieces and some newly produced elements, which makes them uncommon in the aftermarket. It's about 350 parts in total.

I'm planning LEGO legs for a vinyl Maul coin-bank bust

I got a Maul vinyl bust coin-bank years ago in hopes of making it into a complete figure with LEGO pieces by adding some tall General Grievous-like droid legs. But after watching the recent Shadow Lord series, I think Maul is more interesting at a human height and these smaller legs are easier to make, I hope.

The pic is a crude mockup of the plan now. I designed the legs with BrickLink Studio and hope to get the parts acquired and assembled in the next coupla months. I just eye-balled the sizing, dunno if this is gonna look reasonable at all, but the pic is what I'm shooting for. It should be about 1/5 scale, maybe 14" tall from the top of Maul's head (36cm).

The 80s called, they're looking for things they left at the house

Closet clearing, I found this long-forgotten ALF (Alien Life Form) puppet that the internet tells me is a circa 1988 Burger King promo.

The Rocketeer(s)

I'm the center Rocketeer in this photo (copped from the El Capitan Theatre Instagram). On the evening of June 1st 2026, the El Capitan screened one of my favorite movies, The Rocketeer (1991). There was a short panel discussion preceding the movie with movie critic Leonard Maltin, Director Joe Johnston, Production Designer Jim Bissell, and Executive Producer Larry Franco.

Before the Rocketeer festivities, there was the usual, amazing organ performance; I think it was John Ledwon this time? I also got to meet Kathy Hamilton, who was a stunt and body double for Jennifer Connelly, and also appeared as a dancer and background actor in the movie.

Bookshelf-sized LEGO model of Alien Resurrection Betty

I made this over 10 years ago. At that time, the parts to make this weren't produced in all the colors available today, so I chose a kind of generic construction equipment yellow to make the model. I was moving some models around on the display shelves and thought I could make this look better with parts from the contemporary LEGO parts palette.

The movie model is more a brown(?) color, but I prefer the yellow now. I think my eyes are just used to seeing it yellow and it's such an eclectic design the bright colors make the crazy shapes more obvious. What do you think?

Even when he solicited honest feedback on his playing, Bossk would often get over-sensitive and make everyone uncomfortable at the coffee house.

This is a 1/7 scale Kotobukiya vinyl statue depicting Bossk, one of the fearsome bounty hunters sent to find the Millennium Falcon in the light-hearted romantic comedy, The Empire Strikes Back. He's usually armed with a blaster rifle, but I thought it'd be amusing to switch it out with a guitar for a while.

Little LEGO digital designs

These are custom designs built on top of a LEGO pullback motor to make them fun.

I don't have the parts to make them, yet, but I plan to place some LEGO Pick-a-brick and/or BrickLink orders to piece them together in real life and find out if the digital design works IRL.

Is this a First Order Super Star Destroyer concept model?

I saw this on Facebook Marketplace in SoCal. Seems distinctly Star Warsy with the shield deflector domes on top and it kinda resembles the concept image from The Art of the Rise of Skywalker book.

It's large unfinished model, made of wood and plastic, over four feet long, and seemingly too detailed for a throwaway tradeshow booth display. Seems like it was made to shoot with a movie camera in a studio, because of the heavy duty fixture?

I'm curious on others' thoughts, opinions, or insight?

Years ago, I made my own DC Comics Lobo, because I thought LEGO wouldn't dare make one of a sadistic, ultra-violent psychopath

I read the Lobo comics in the 90s when I was in college, and laughed at the insanely over-the-top violence and hijinks. Somewhere along the way, Lobo's been toned down enough to appear in animated shows targeted towards kids, go figure.

Years ago, when DC and Marvel superheroes minifigs were being rolled out en masse, I wanted a Lobo, so I made one with these parts (BrickLink numbers noted): Hair (11908) ; Head (3626pb0757) only available in glow-the-dark white ; Torso (973pb0467) ; Legs (970c00pb0046).
