I've set up a HB server on MacOS (bare metal). It appears to work well, finds all the accessories that the plugins want to talk to, but...I can't add the bridge to HK. I've tried both Bonjour HAP and Ciao, Ciao fails to add immediately, Bonjour will spin for a long time and then fail to add. Not sure what else I can change to get it to add the bridge to HK?
I’ve been running Pihole for years on RPis, but lately my two current RPis (3B and Zero2w) will not stay running. I don’t know if it’s Trixie, or the SD cards, or the power supplies, or the hardware, but I’m spending a ridiculous amount of time keeping them running, and of course having both of them fail simultaneously brings the network to a halt. I WFH, so really just need it to work. I played around with virtualized/containerized solutions on my spare Mac Mini, but can’t come up with a reliable solution, and I don’t want to put any more time into it. New RPis are very expensive, and I want to get away from being a SA.
Any web based alternatives to Pihole, ideally something somewhat configurable? Currently using Quad9 DNS, which gives me a little bit of protection.
I was running my weekly update of my Debian R-pis, one of the units (Raspberry Pi Zero 2) got whacked when installing the wpasupplicant update:

I rebuilt the system, ran apt update again, and once again the wpasupplicant update unconfigured the WLAN interface.
Any thoughts here? I could, of course, not update the system, but that seems a bit impractical.
UPDATE: switched to Ubuntu.
I’ve finished updating all devices to 27. Happy in all respects except for Siri on my Ultra 2. I get the Pulsing Orb of Nothing too often, for example, trying to open or close the garage door. Under 26, it just opened. Under 27, nope.
I guess I’m hoping 27.2 is going to be better.
I've updated my BOINC Mac to macOS 27, and I'm seeing computation errors plus "This project doesn't support computers of type arm64-apple-darwin". Is 8.2.11 not compatible?
Possible World Community Grid issue?

UPDATE: I’ve found zero support or community resources for either BOINC or World Community Grid. Seems like both are Abandonware. I’ve shut BOINC off, will revisit someday maybe.
I’ve just replaced my legacy eero Pros with 7 Pros. Question on a couple of settings:
I have 1.25 Gbps down and 124 Mbps up.
Eco Efficiency? Seems safer to turn it off.
SQM? Is it useful with a higher speed plan? No gaming, just video calls and streaming.
MLO? It’s off by default, but looks useful.

I've received a slide deck from a colleague that has hidden slides. I'd like to unhide one of the slides, but can't figure out how. The docs say to right-click on the slide. I've tried option-click, control-click, command-click, fn-click (control-click is the documented right-click in MacOS).
Any thoughts on how to hide/unhide slides in MacOS?
I’ve ordered a pair of Pro 7s to replace my eero Pro network. I’m hoping there is a way to migrate the network settings and address reservations to the new equipment. I’m wondering if I can add one of the Pro 7s to the existing network (which would copy the network configuration to it), then make the Pro 7 the gateway, then turn off the other legacy equipment and, and finally add the second Pro 7 to the network.
Would this work?
I’ve been converting WiFi IoT devices to Thread devices (specifically MoT), so of course my WiFi device count is much lower on the network. The Thread network of course is part of the overall network via the border router(s).
Question: the device count is the same, the WiFi network is doing less work (I assume because less point to point traffic), and the overall network traffic is (more/less/the same?)…what is the overall impact of a Thread network on the larger network?
I’ve had a set of eero Pros for seven years now (gosh, it really has been seven years), and I love how stable the network is. Two story house, 2400 sq feet, three Pros plus a eero Beacon in the garage. Wireless back haul.
Just upped my internet speed to gig and replaced the modem, all good there, and the gateway eero is showing nearly 1 gb downstream. We have a number Apple devices (laptop, desktops, tablets, phones, HomePods), plus various other servers and streamers, and a fair number of IoT devices. About 90 devices total. And a Thread network, for which some Apple devices serve as border routers.
As I say, it’s quite stable, and eero is still updating the firmware, so I assume security is up to date.
Given all that: is there any reason to update the eeros?
My garage GFCI is nuisance tripping (very irregularly, but causes headaches when it does), and I want to replace it with something robust. I’m not interested in cheap Amazon units. Is Leviton still the best choice, or is there something better?
I may need to drive to Boise soon from the Seattle area. With all of the fires and fire smoke, is it possible to drive this now? I’m assuming it would be better in September or October, but that depends on the weather.
General route is through Ellensburg, down to 84 through Baker City.
I’ve built an Ubuntu 26.04 machine inside VirtualBox. I made the VB storage container too small initially as it turned out, and I’ve expanded the container size to be significantly larger.
The / partition is near or at 100%, and I’d like to expand it if possible rather than burning it down and starting over. I’ve searched the webs, each article seems to describe a different methodology to expand partitions, but not explicitly the / partition.
Any thoughts here? Doable?
My SB8200 has given up, just as I upped my Xfinity service to gigabit. As there are a lot of options, which modem will perform well and hold up? Another SB8200, or something else?
I have a system with three eero Pros plus one eero Beacon. Has been very stable for years.
This morning two things happened: I updated all units to 7.16.2, and Xfinity turned my service off (there was about an hour between events). My internet service is back on, and a gateway (for a weather station) that is plugged into the second port of the eero gateway is happily uploading data. All of the other eeros are reporting connected. If I run a connectivity test from WiFi, it fails to connect to internet. If I run the connectivity test from cellular, it passes. None of the devices on the WiFi network have internet access.
I’ve tried unplugging the modem for five minutes, and I’m convinced the internet service is working. I’ve power cycled the eero gateway, but haven’t left it unplugged for very long. I did see a couple of periods where all of the eeros were showing down in the app, though they are currently all showing online. It’s curious that an Ethernet connected device on the eero gateway has internet access, but the WiFi devices don’t.
I’m pretty stressed on this, also have run out of ideas. I suppose I could leave the eero gateway power off for 5, 10, however many minutes. Or swap another eero into the gateway position.
Any ideas?
UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Doing the soft reset on the gateway revealed a flashing blue light, meaning no upstream internet. I went through several rounds with Xfinity trying to onboard my modem without success, so I pulled out my backup modem and got that provisioned. It took a while for the mesh to sort itself out, but it’s ok now, and I’ll modem shop tomorrow.
Very time consuming and stressful, but eliminating the eero system as a problem made it much easier to troubleshoot.
Having RTFM and discovered that containers are not an option on MacOS, I’m debating running HB in a VM vs native on my M1 Mac. I set up a VirtualBox / Ubuntu VM yesterday, and HB runs very well in it, but the VM seems like a lot of overhead for a relatively lightweight service.
Would there be any downside to running HB natively on MacOS? Do MacOS updates impact HB?
I just bought a bunch of Cascade Actionpac dishwasher pods, and before I open the container, I should ask if the Actionpacs are going to fit into the detergent dispenser of my Bosch dishwasher. Model is SHEAR75UC/24.
I’ve been running HB for years on bare metal on a series of RPis (currently a 3B) along with Pi-hole, and lately they haven’t been getting along particularly well. Today I built a virtual machine on a Mac M1 in an Ubuntu VM and created a new HB bridge. Very fast, of course.
I’m a bit old fashioned and haven’t done too much with containers, they were starting to become prevalent about the time I stopped working in the industry. The times that I played around with Docker on the Mac, it seemed to consume a lot of resources (particularly RAM), which seemed unnecessary for something as light weight as HB. I have Podman installed, but haven’t done much with it.
Any guidance here?
