Does anyone have a gaming setup like a PC/Console hooked to APPLE TV + Homepods via HDMI EARC? If yes, how is it? Any good? Any latency? Thanks!

What do you think of HÅG Capisco 8106 ?

Hey, I found this mega deal for a HÅG Capisco 8106 at 200$ CAD only near my place and I was wondering if it's any good. I have a Steelcase Leap V2 that is really old and it's starting to show it's age.

I was not specifically looking for this chair but at this price, I could see myself at least try it and see how it is.

What do you guys thing about this model?

Looking for ceiling recessed lights graded for home theater suggestions

Hey,

I have regular recessed lights for now but I heard I could use better recessed lights that prevents lights from hitting TVs and such. I don't know if it's worth to change them. Would be curious to know your opinions. Also, the ones I have now a really cheap and I can't get them low like I would want to so it's worth considering I might need to change anyway.

So, veterans, what are the best ones to get for a home cinema in Canada?

Cheers!

Could someone please tell me which generation it is? Is it the 1080p or 4k? Lady that sells it said it's 3rd gen bought in 2022 but the remote looks older to me. I may be wrong though.

LF composite movie streaming advice

Hey everyone,

I just got my first CRT TV with composite inputs, and I'm planning to set up a Raspberry Pi as a Kodi streaming device for it (kind of like how I use a modern Android box for my 4K setup). I have a few questions before buying the hardware:

  1. Which Raspberry Pi generation handled composite output the best? Is there a specific model where analog video output "shined" or was easiest to set up natively without weird quirks?
  2. How much RAM should I aim for if the main workload is running Kodi on a CRT, plus some light emulation?
  3. Can I easily use this as a dual-purpose box for both Kodi and emulating 8-bit / 16-bit consoles (NES, SNES, Genesis, etc.) on the CRT? What's the best way to handle running both without constantly swapping SD cards?

Thanks for any help or recommendations!

LF advice

What are the best options on the current market?

Needs to be:

  • small form factor (gameboy size would be ideal)
  • a huge library of games already installed
  • made of actual good quality (not the generic cheap handheld we see on temu)
  • can play until 5th gen of consoles and maybe more?

Many thanks!!

Are there any downsides to using a Sony OLED TV compared to LG for gaming?

Hey,

I'll move my C4 upstairs soon and will need a replacement for the basement (main home theatre). Since I'm a huge movie nerd, Sony is the way to go for me. That said, I know Sony wasn't always the best when it came to gaming (latency etc.).

I was wondering if it gotten any better during these last gens and if yes, which model would be a great pick?

Koss SB40 VS Koss GMR540-A-ISO for gaming with LAN buddies?

Hey, I recently have been happy with my first pair of Koss headphones (KPH40s) hooked to my external sound card when gaming alone in my basement. I even bought the wireless KPH30i for running and such... When I want to game with friends online at home, I can use my Shure microphone hooked to the same external sound card.

That said, I tend to go to LAN parties maybe 2 or 3 times a year. For a while, I was using an old gaming headset, but the sound was so cheap, I decided to sell it to get a few extra bucks.

So, since I really like Koss products, I was thinking of getting the Koss Porta Pro Double-Sided Communication Headset since I heard so much good about the Porta Pros. The thing is that since they are open-back headphones, and the fact that I'll be surrounded by 9 friends who are constantly laughing or talking loud, the open back can become an issue.

This leads me to the duel mentioned in the title. Both are closed-back, and I was just wondering if some of you had any feedback or maybe tips for my particular situation...

CRT + Movies streaming setup questions

Hey,

Could a CRT like this, which uses RF, would be a good fit for a retro movie setup?

Basically, I wonder if an old Raspberry Pi with the right adapter from Composite to RF could work as a Kodi streaming platform.

Without going too much into details, I use Kodi + Real Debrid + Torrentio and have the ability to set 4:3 in Kodi. I get to access 4k, Bluray and DVD rips from doing that.

My main goal is to watch movies in a vintage way... Could that work? Did anybody try this?

Thanks!

Hoping to find some help

Hey,

I'm at 35 y/o and have been having issues with my right ear for about 10 years +... I consulted ORL/ENT many times and even got my audio test done a few years back. Results always came good but I have this weird thing happening with this ear and I'm going to try to describe it as best as I can to hopefully shed some light.

So, I of course ear a ringing sound, and sometimes it gets a little distracting and other times it's not too bad. Then, this ear always becomes more sensitive to sounds near it. Like, I can be in a rock/metal show and be fine even speaking lout with friends but having a conversation over the phone with this hear kills me. Like it doesn't hurt a lot but just enough to make it uncomfortable... The worst part of it is when I hear more bass or some precise frequencies, it makes like a vibration sound. It's hard to describe but only at certain volumes my ear will cramp up and do that weird vibration or shaking noise in my ear...

Anyway, since I went to see doctors they all tell me everything is fine, when it clearly is not, I was hoping to find some help on the internet...

This thing is annoying! I can't even watch movies or listen music at volumes I want because it becomes distracting.

If someone knows what the hells is going on, please, please help me.

What is the best way to have the best sound (no compression) on PC and phones?

I have been Spotify for a few years and recently decided I would get a good pair of headphone. So, I now would want to go down the rabbit hole to have the best sound.

What I mean by that is that as a film enthusiast, I prefer watching my movies on a proper 4k/Bluray player to have the least amount of compression with Dolby Atmos tracks.

I wonder what is the equivalent for music listening on PC and phones and don't mind having to get extra gear if needed.

Current setup: PC/Peace+APO(EQ)/Spotify → sound card → headphones

How much would one pay for a Sony Trinitron KV1370R in $CAD?

Looks to be in a really good condition. At least, it's what the owner advises. It's listed as 175$ CAD right now but I think it's way to high.

JVC D-Series 27 inches questions

Hey fellow JVC D-Series owners,

I may have found a really good CRT but would be curious to know what dimensions it has in this format. I have a place I could put a CRT but it has a depth of 19 inches...

It looks to be in good shape too. I might consider finding another spot for it as it's a really nice price too...

Could anyone please tell me the dimensions it has?

Thanks!

Guidance needed for a first retro (emulation) battle station

Hey fellow retro gamers,

I am by no means a "true" retro gamer but would really like to dig in the hobby and figured I would try this sub... I currently don't own old consoles but have a Steam Deck that I really enjoy for emulation.

I wonder what to pick for my needs. Since I'll be using a Steam Deck doecked on the official Valve docking station, I know that a CRT monitor is probably the ideal thing to pick but these are SO rare and always way overpriced. I also considered an old 4:3 LCD monitor like the Dell UltraSharp 2007FP... They seem easier to find and also really cheap... I saw some folks being happy with it.

Then, I dug a little deeper and found options like Arcooda 26" 4k UHD Checkmate IPS 19-inch. The prices on these are a little absurd but I could maybe see myself using them as a second monitor on my modern main PC setup...

Anyway, again, I'm not a purist so anything could work I guess but I would just be curious to have your opinions.

I asked on the sub and hope it's the right place. Other subs tend to have a lot of purists that wouldn't even answer my questions.

Which replacement pads to get? Kinda confused about those three...

I just swapped the KSC75 drivers to my KPH40 headband and I'm really digging the sound. I bought the KPH40 retro model that comes with the Porta Pro drivers and I can already tell I still prefer the sound of the KSC75.

That said, I would appreciate some guidance regarding replacement pads... Of course the oversized Koss ones seem to be the most logic as they seem to be engineered with the drivers in mind but I see a lot of folks saying Yaxi's are good and even better in some cases. Then, I saw YouTuber I usually like mention the Dekoni pads. They seem pricier but I wouldn't mind spending fore better sound. I also saw folks punching holes in pads. Is it worth it?

TLDR: Overzied KOSS VS Yaxi VS Dekoni—What are the sound signatures differences?

Koss SB40 VS Koss Porta Pro Double-Sided Communication Headset with Microphone for gaming?

As open back headphones, I have a a pair of KSC75, pair of KPH40 that I can use for solo gaming. I also have a pair of closed back headphone that is the Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO. At home I have a

That said, I have plenty of choices for a good pair of headphones when I'm alone. Though, I occasionally go in LAN parties and need to have a good headset. I've had terrible sound quality "gaming" brand headsets in the past and I won't go that route again. I recently had a lot of fun with Koss headphones. Sound was so bad on all of them...

As for my home microphone, I have a Shure that I can just hook up to my Motu sound card when needed but needless to say I can't really think of brigning this into LAN parties because of space issues.

Anyway, here are some questions:

  1. If anyone have tried those 2 headsets, how was it for gaming, which was your prefered and why?
  2. If they are worth picking for my needs, in a big LAN party where tons of people talk loud, which ,model would you advise to pick?
  3. Am I going nuts and should avoid Koss for gaming headsets, lol?

Looking forward hearing from you guys!
