Regarding our campus- it happens here too

Every woman you know has a story, be it her own or someone close to her. It is not anyone's responsibility to share their trauma in order to make you a better person, but I am comfortable sharing mine.

I believe that I was drugged at a frat house on Iowa State's campus in 2017. Luckily I was with a friend who recognized that I was acting strange and never left me alone, but the unknowns are upsetting.

I was visiting Greek row during homecoming week to look at the lawn displays and I blacked out after one mixed drink, something I had not experienced before and have not since. I am now 32. Entire chunks of time are just missing from that evening. One moment I was standing with a group of friends chatting- it was still daylight out, and the next I was home with my roommate, midnight or later. I do remember one moment of clarity- crying at the campanile while a boy I barely knew kissed me.

Had I not been with my friend, I am not sure what would have happened to me. It's possible that my drink was just incredibly strong that evening, but it has always felt suspicious to me that I never experienced anything like that feeling of memory loss ever again.

I was at that frat house interacting with guys I thought were friends, I even let one remake me a new drink. We were in the room together, but still his back was turned to me. Was that the moment? Or was it innocent? I won't ever know.

Every woman you know has a story. I have also been catcalled, I have been solicited online, I have been made uncomfortable in grocery stores and malls. This is on MEN to call out amongst their own. This is a systemic issue that is rooted deep in the culture of what it means to "be a man" and it must be addressed from within your own groups. And this is not above our campus. It happens everywhere, to people you know, BY people you know.

Looking for this pattern or similar, the OP did not share one

Found this on Instagram, the post was not about crochet overall so the pattern was not shared and the OP has not responded to a request for one. I can't seem to find anything similar to this- all of the fish I see are HIGHLY detailed. I have a friend who would like to commission me for a couple of these panels, but this is beyond my freehand skills lol

Can someone explain how to make an open landing next to the stairs?

I want the three floor tiles next to my stairs to go away, so it's like a large open air landing. I feel like I used to be able to just draw a line with a fence from the top of the stairs across and that would make a new "room" but not delete the stairs, and then I could remove the floor? That doesn't work here- when I tried, it deleted the stairs, and then I could not replace them.

Looking for some suggestions for a 2-3 day trip in the Midwest, US

Hey all! A friend and I are looking for some ideas for a 2-3 day backpacking trip we could take somewhere around the Midwest.

I am in southern Minnesota, she is in Nebraska. We would both prefer to avoid NE and IA, so I was thinking more South Dakota or Minnesota maybe? I am a complete newbie to camping and hiking, she has a few small trips under her belt, so looking for something pretty approachable. Thanks in advance!

Edit to add: we would be looking to go around May 2027.

My first finished swatch, looking for some feedback!

I practiced Knit for about 10 rows, then Purl for another 4 or 5. Ended with K & P back and forth. 7mm needles on worsted weight acrylic. I come from 14 years of crochet experience, this is my first attempt to learn knitting.

Some things I struggled with and would like advice on:

•Tension was a big one, and I'm sure will get better with time. I can see a few rows where things were going well, and then it all gets spread out again. What can I do to keep rows packed together nicely?

•The last stitch of every row was SO loose, just giant loops it felt like. Is there anything to do about that?

•Sometimes a stitch would drop off the needle and I wouldnt know how to put it back on correctly. On a swatch, I can just move on and not fret, but how do I fix it when I'm actually working a project??

Any other general advice or tips you can give me from looking at my picture is appreciated! I'm honestly pretty proud of myself for what I accomplished on a first run ☺️

Oh my god our electric bill is through the roof, two months in a row 😭

First month's bill came in and I almost crapped my pants. Ok, we turn up the AC, we make sure all the lights are getting turned off when no one is in a room. We don't leave fans running if it can be helped (there was a heat wave this last month, so maybe this contributed). I was feeling pretty good about the changes we made, especially because we DID have to suffer a few hot nights trying not to crank the AC down.

Get the next bill today and it's $100 MORE than last month. What the actual fuck. We know we need some new insulation in the attic, we were told at inspection that we are losing a lot of air that way. It's a split level built in the 60s, and the AC unit is probably almost as old. There are definitely bigger projects we can do in the long run to help, but does anyone have any practical suggestions for lowering this bill in incremental ways now? We cannot keep paying almost $500/month in fucking electricity, my god.

Edit: Okay, comments got away from me here. Lots of great advice about energy audits, and mitigating energy loss with sealing gaps and adding insulation, plus AC maintenance. Thanks everyone who offered helpful feedback, and 👎 to those of you who downvoted me or called me a clown lmao. Lots to learn as a first time homeowner, and I appreciate those of you who took the time to teach!

Please tell me what else I can do with all this Greek yogurt 😂

I tried making overnight oats with Vanilla Greek yogurt and it's GROSS! lmao. I keep trying to like yogurt but I just don't think I do and I am not gonna force myself to eat it like this.

My problem: I have 2 32 oz tubs in my fridge right now because I was so confident. I dont want to throw it away.

Do you have any recipes that could help me use up this yogurt? 💀 I am thinking potentially some baked stuff? But I don't know how yogurt reacts in an oven.

Caught my backyard neighbor letting her dog into our yard

Backyard neighbor has a friendly dog, our yards are open to eachother and we plan on getting a fence (planned to do this before we met her, but it's been pushed up the list now).

When we first met, one of the VERY first things she said to us was "oh, I have a dog, do you care? The previous owners didn't care if he ran around." (Which we suspect was not true, more like they were infirm older women who could not object). There is also a spot in our yard where a lot of ash has been dumped and this neighbor reguarly has her campfire set up RIGHT on the edge of our properties. We suspect she was dumping it in our yard before we moved in, while the house was vacant.

Anyway, for a while she was keeping the dog on a lead to keep him in her yard. This morning I was looking out into the backyard and watched as she let her dog out and stood on her back deck, hands on hips and smile on her face, as she just watched her dog walk up into our yard and piss on our plants.

I'm so fucking annoyed, and I know the thing to do is have a direct conversation but goddamn. We've been here 3 months, I feel like she needs to be a better neighbor.

Edit: For those of you who told me to speak with her directly about this, I did. I told her we saw the dog in our yard and also saw her watching him do it, asked that she keeps him in her yard from now on. She agreed, and hopefully I didn't just start a 20 year feud lol.

Noob help 😅

Got a pre-roll from the dispensary, but it's not a cone with a twisted end, it's just wide open. The filter is also HUGE, I feel like I should crimp it? Is there a trick to this style, or do we just light up? Lol

Just doesn't feel like me anymore

I originally got the line work done back in 2014, color was added in 2018. It's a highly stylized semi-colon (following the popular trend at that time to represent depression and suicide). I absolutely love the watercolor effect, but the semi-colon just isn't something I want to explain to people anymore, and the only other explanation is that it's just a paisley? It's pretty to look at, but I cringe at my 20 year old self for getting this MASSIVE piece now.

Trying to get some thoughts & ideas on what could cover this up, or rework what is there to make something new.

Polymorph question- running Wild Sheep Chase

I need some clarification: if the caster of Polymorph loses their concentration, then the spell is ended correct?

In Sheep Chase, the main bad guy has used Polymorph to change a bunch of human guards into different wild animals. So if he loses his concentration during the final battle with everyone, that would mean that all of his hench men turn BACK into their human form right?

Anyone who has run this one-shot before, or anyone who has thoughts: did you bypass that technicality and keep the wild animals around? If you follow the rules, did you keep the hench men around to keep fighting, or did they flee? Is this something I can just feel out as we play?

The notes for this campaign tell me that the wizard uses spells that require concentration while he is also ACTIVELY using Polymorph on his henchmen, so I'm a wee bit confused!

SO MUCH NIGHTSHADE 😭

Husband and I bought our first home in May and have since tore out soooo many weeds and overgrown garden beds, the worst culprit of all being the bittersweet nightshade that had taken over EVERY. SQUARE. INCH. Previous owners might have even planted it on purpose, unknowingly releasing hell upon the yard.

Two months later and we are still fighting with the shoots that keep popping up all over. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to eradicate this stuff? I'm sure a few years of TLC and proper lawn care will help, but this stuff seems hardy.

First time player, just moved on to the Mountain Pass

I am officially further than I have ever been in the game- I actually have been for quite a while. Previously, I had cleared the goblin camp, but had not really done much else in the Wilderness, and man is there SO MUCH to do. This game is just huge!

I come from games like Sims, Stardew Valley, and Planet Zoo, basically games that don't have a lot of consequences. I have been interested in some action RPGs for a long time, but I just don't have the classic video game experience, so reaction times often come slow for me. BG3 has been such a great experience for me so far, allowing me to take the time to think through each decision and round of combat.

My TAV is an Elf Bard, and I have generally been playing her with innocence (picking the non-violent or pragmatic options above else) but imagining that over time she is becoming more jaded and hardened by being on this adventure. I like to think she's getting fed up with some of this bullshit lol.

Anyway, just wanted to mention some of my thoughts so far:

-I am really happy and proud of the way I solved the Spectator fight. I was really struggling and getting obliterated by walking straight in, and eventually took a more tactical approach from Selune's tower, layering several spells and items on top of one another. In the end, he really only got one good hit in on Astarion before I killed it.

-I love all of the dialogue that I get as a Bard. I tend not to use some of the more obnoxious lines, but you best believe I leaned into it when talking to Volo at Emerald Grove lol.

-After every long rest, I cast Speak with Animals on myself and it's been the best thing ever to chat with all of the woodland creatures. Having Scratch and the Owl Bear cub in camp is so freaking cute!

-Juggling everyone's level ups and perks and armor and items has been a bit more daunting than I expected. I think I have everyone with a slightly better weapon than they started with at this point (Level 6), but I still feel like some of them are not quite as powerful as they could be. I pretty much have Shadowheart in my party constantly, I have given her some spells that I find pretty helpful and powerful, and my Tav plays as more of a protector than a fighter. However, I rarely use Gale or Wyll, and I think it's just because I don't feel like I have them upgraded the right way. Definitely still getting used to all of these mechanics and how they work together.

-The Underdark was incredible! I know I missed several things there (did not save Thulla, didn't even see her actually. I also did not save Baelen and I think I accidentally missed a couple side quests over across the lake because I was immediately killing off the Duergar), but I really loved the story for the Myconids and their area was beautiful!

For those of you who made it to the end of my little ramble, thanks for reading! I just am loving this game so much, and I really wanted to share my insights from my first 70 hours.

First time into the Underdark!

Currently around 65 hours in, this is the furthest I have ever been in Act 1! I was genuinely pretty nervous to get into the Underdark, because immediately I am seeing baddies with like 75+ health. My party is level 5 though, about halfway to 6 at this point.

I have met the Myconids and killed the Duergars on this side of the lake. I have fought and killed Filro and his hook horrors, and I have also defeated the Bulette (barely- it smashed into all of us and nearly TPKd me). Oh, and I blew up Baelen on accident lmao.

Just ran across the Arcane tower, and then the spectator, but I had to reset to an earlier save so will be doing those again.

I am having a lot of fun running around down here, I really love the Myconid colony- their camp is honestly really pretty to me.

Open to any tips or tricks you think a first-timer should know. I am not worried about strat spoilers, moreso story stuff. Tell me your favorite part of the Underdark!

Easiest way to get friends started (remote, and first-timers)

I'm going to run a one-shot for my husband and a couple of our friends. We all live pretty far apart, so likely we will do the session(s) remotely.

One of the friends is pretty overwhelmed with the whole concept of DnD. It sounds like she had kind of a weird experience the one time she tried it, so I am trying to keep things fairly simple to start.

I thought maybe I would provide some pre-rolled characters to choose from for our one-shot, but then I'm looking at the character sheets that you download from DND Beyond and find them kind of cumbersome (I have previously used the app for my experiences).

Would anyone have any advice or guidance here? Similar experiences or how you made new people comfortable amd excited? Maybe I'm just way over-complicating everything??

Have I accidentally locked myself into a romance with Karlach?

I finished off the Goblin camp and did the Tiefling party already- during the party, pretty much everyone expressed interest in me, but I got an offer from Shadowheart and Karlach to see them afterwards. I chose Karlach at the time, but now I would much rather pursue another companion. However, every time I talk to Karlach now, the only additional dialogue option is "I want to touch you properly."

I am not getting any flirty dialogue from other characters anymore, and I am not able to break up with Karlach at this point. Do I just need to keep long-resting? Have I accidentally locked myself into a romance with Karlach?

This is my first run of the game, the furthest I've been. I don't really want to be attached to her for the entire game already, I wanted to explore my options lol

Well, I committed the cardinal sin 😭

I didn't triple check the weight of yarn when I ordered online and purchased fine when I needed worsted 🫠 Now to decide if I go forward with the blanket and just make it incredibly small and intricate lmao
